  1. I grew up in an independent fundamental baptist church and school... and I am very familiar with how many religions try to justify their dislike or even hatred towards gay people. I try to never dissuade people from their belief system until it begins to encroach on the rights of others. And murdering people is definitely past "encroaching on rights".
  2. I wouldn't think it is too late. Especially if you are already in contact with a POI in the spring/early summer. I visited my uni in August, but only because I wanted to go before the semester started back up again.
  3. @Cat_Robutt @jlt646 Maybe its because I am very anti-religion, but I just really couldn't give a rat's ass about what consenting adults do in their own bedroom. It never ceases to amaze me how many people shove their hatred on the gay community.
  4. I know right? We were looking at them at target, but all of the display ones that I was even kind of interested in... they were out of stock and I couldn't find prices or anything. It was a huge pain in the ass. So we just walked away. Not sure were I'll end up getting one.
  5. Oh god... Our kitties conspire against us all the time. I walk in on secret meetings everyday. In fact, just this morning I woke up in the middle of a plot to murder me. Kitty #1 was laying squarely across my arms and diaphragm in an attempt to hold me down while Kitty #2 sprawled all 8lbs of extra long fur and undercoat across my face in an attempt to suffocate me.
  6. Better if you do it right. Our cat was very clingy and dependent. We searched specifically for a companion for her... Meaning we wanted a cat to compliment her personality... Not ours. (Although she just happened to be great for us too). Getting a young and well socialized cat that is already spayed/neutered really helps too. There's lots of articles online if you look up companion cats for cats.
  7. We only pay $25 a month per cat... But our rent I already so obscenely expensive that they couldn't get away with $50 per cat lol. Thankfully when we move in August, our rent will go down to $1350 a month.
  8. Our kitties are costing us an extra $1000 in deposits when we move in 2 months.
  9. I got this one specifically....but it was only $20 at target, not $25 https://www.bluesky.com/planners/day-designer-spotty-dot-academic-year-daily-monthly-8-x-10-planner-jul-2016-jun-2017.html There are probably others like it, but I have a thing about physically looking at and seeing planners before I buy them. My planner is an integral part of my life.
  10. So I'm kinda excited because we were next to a target today (never happens) and we stopped in to look at vacuum cleaners (didn't get one) but instead I did find the most bad-ass awesome planner I have ever seen. It's like a full blown book. It has every month at the beginning of each section then every 2-page spread is devoted to 2 days only until you get to the next month. So you get a whole page for every single day, with a time schedule, to-do checklist, notes section, 3-most important things to do today box, and more. I bought the shit out of that planner.
  11. My owners manual maintenance schedule ended like 100,000 miles ago so I've been winging the estimated replacement times since. Lol.
  12. Did you not take it on a computer? Normally the scores for the quant and verbal show up immediately after the test. If not... you will just have to wait.
  13. OMG... this had me cracking up.... although in a sympathetic and understanding way. My step-father was like this... as is most of my extended family. I stopped speaking with my step-father years ago, and my mom divorced him very shortly after. I am lucky that my mother and father are both very friendly and caring. I know its not nearly as bad, but it kind of hurts my feelings that none of the three grandparents I have or other family have asked me anything about grad school. I'm the only person on my dad's side to ever go. And I will be the only person in the entire family pursuing a doctorate. At least my mom is in academia and we can talk about it a little. I'm just excited and have no one to talk to about it except my partner... who is inevitably tired of hearing about it lol. He is a very good listener though.
  14. It took me about 2 days to make that one and I'm about halfway through the other foot.
  15. If someone were indeed to tell you that at this point you could make up your basic science and math deficits with extra schooling... would you actually take that up and change your career? Because the reality is that some people really can/can't do some things, and some people are just victim to poor teaching and different learning styles. Which you are... I couldn't tell you. I struggled significantly through grade school, particularly in math. I made d's in math all the way up to algebra and then bam... math made sense. Biology, chemistry, physical science... didn't do well in any of them. But now I am a scientist (well, will be). I love science. College (and homeschooling through high school) allowed me to teach myself the way that I learn. I have never doubted my love of my field. But if you are having doubts, the time to think about them would be now... not years from now when you are too far in to look back. If you love history, but also love science... and are studying history of science, that sounds like a pretty good compromise to me. And... to be fair, you don't have to be a scientist to enjoy science. Have you thought about involving yourself in a less "in-depth" way. For example, volunteering at a science museum, or joining a local science club. Would something like that be enough to satiate your love of science? There are lots of people who do those things who don't have a career or even a background in science.
  16. I've been working on a new pair of sheep feet. One foot down... another to go.
  17. This has always been interesting with my personal research interests. In my field... a lot of stuff is real world application. But it's been really hard trying to explain to non-academics what I do, why anyone actually cares about it, and why there is any real world application.
  18. Not quite the same situation... as my partner has a decent paying job, but have you guys thought about having a roommate? We contemplated this when we first moved to a big city, although ultimately we decided to go against it, as it wasn't what we wanted and we had enough money to live alone. However, if you guys can't find the funds to live alone comfortably... perhaps the roomie-situation would be an idea. I know it would probably be a little awkward, especially if you've been living alone for a while. But you might find a floor plan that works.
  19. I know its not exactly what you asked, but I really found this planner set-up to be the most useful and productive... with the monthly calendar first, followed by the weeks on 2 page spreads, with each day having plenty of lines. Makes it easier to glance the long-term, but really organize the short term. http://www.amazon.com/GLANCE-Academic-Monthly-Planner-Appointment/dp/B01BFKXGQS?ie=UTF8&keywords=at a glance academic planner 2016-2017&qid=1465311192&ref_=sr_1_7&s=office-products&sr=1-7 There are lots of other people who make them too.
  20. @Danger_Zone @Crucial BBQ Bob Ross is totally on netflix now. When I was little, we didn't have any form of cable. We only had the 8 or so channels that came through the bunny-ears... And PBS was the only one with kids shows. I would watch Bob Ross everday in the summer. He I awesome... Even now.
  21. And I am now using our superior internet to do what is really important... Watch Bob Ross on Netflix.
  22. I don't. But my partner is a gamer and he is happy now. We ditched our tv, upgraded the wifis, and are still saving $40 a month.
  23. Well we officially have 300 mb wifis. Yay.
