You should see the one for English Lit. And they say history of over-saturated. "I got an A on my Hamlet paper. I have brilliant thoughts about the theme of death in literature."

Congrats to all who have heard positive news. To those of you who are still waiting, like I am, things take extra time with the money so tight, hiring freezes, and multiple feet of snow in various places (including Emory -- where snow shuts the city down). We should meet together and have a drink as a forum. Cheers!

If this were Facebook, I'd "like" this.

As a Floridian looking to get the MA, then hopefully apply up for the PhD, Florida is pretty great. I applied last year (rejected everywhere). I'm waiting on UF now. Did you apply just to Classics or to History, too? I checked online and my results are not up yet.

I'm currently in school, getting a graduate certificate in Women's Studies. I also work part time, and was just accepted to my second conference of the year. The first was back in October, the Southeastern Regional Popular and American Culture Association. In April, I'll be on the Baby Boomer panel at the National PCA/ACA conference in San Antonio.

I'm with you! If you were socialized in the real world as an undergrad, you'll do just fine! Two years out of my BA and I'm still totally normal, though I cannot say the same for members of my cohort at my current WS program. Oy.

I know I'm the only active user applying to Tennessee, but for those quiet ones reading: A few weeks ago I got an e-mail from the Graduate Secretary from the dept to let me know I would know 'early to mid-March' as I was being considered for a TAship. I just checked online, and it says that the Graduate CAS is reviewing it -- which means the department said yes (or at least should have). During my visit, they told me that they make the recommendation and then CAS reviews them. So, maybe I get to peace out of my parents house. Finally.

Re: Northeastern - I told one of my undergrad professors as they are in the same field. She said he is pretty widely known as a narcissistic a******. And, dear God, yes, my undergrad IS better than Northeastern. By about 50 places in rank. HA!
-
If it makes you feel any better, last year Northeastern's Dr. Brown called me and told suggested I not apply to graduate school ever again. He followed up by telling my that my undergrad institution was 'sub-par, although you write very well.' What a douche. Tuft's letter was quite trite. It was one line with zero sense of apology.

I am not in the same league as most of you, but even with my substantially lesser schools I just need one with funding. Too bad I won't get that news by Sunday for my 25th birthday.
-
After reading all of these schools, I feel like I shouldn't have even applied! But, it is far too late for that. I am applying for Modern (20c) US, focusing on cultural, women/gender/sexuality, political history. I applied to: - Temple U - Brandeis - UT, Knoxville - WashU - Syracuse - UConn - Alabama - U Mass, Amherst - Florida - Iowa - Auburn - LSU - American - George Mason
-
I keep dreaming that I'm writing my SoP and my writing sample (long story as to why that isn't written already) and as I do it, Drs. Farber, Bailey, and Immerman from Temple are standing over my shoulder and telling me I'm not smart enough. Stressful. SO stressful.
-
I have been asked by LoR writers if they can do it through Interfolio. Have any of you heard of it or used it? If so, any thoughts would be appreciated.

How many is too many? Programs, that is. I can't decide. Last year I applied to 6 and got waitlisted or rejected. So, here I am in a graduate certificate program for Women's Studies (women, gender, and sexuality will be a subfield). I have 16, but I won't apply to all. I am thinking maybe 12, 14 tops.
-
I STILL haven't taken my GREs. Well, I did last year. Ha. I'm taking it again Oct 28. My first deadline is Dec. 15. I was just up in Philly for interviews at Temple. What a great experience. I hope they take me. I think the boards will start to blow up in the next few weeks with questions, fears, etc as deadlines get closer. Good luck to you all!

I've had the same thing and my undergrad adviser said that it is just how the game is played. Some will see the subject line and just delete it, others will e-mail quickly and enthusiastically, etc. I would say that last year's cycle I had about half respond. This year, even less. We'll see!

I only know of Brandeis, but if you are open to international schools and are interested in American history as I am, perhaps you should consider The University of Edinburgh. Here is the list of history degrees

I'd love to say I'm in the same situation, but my UGPA is low (3.2) and I went to Agnes Scott College - listed tier one, but no one has heard of it. My GRE scores were low. I was rejected outright from all of the schools I applied to last year. I'm dedicated, so here I go again! Since the last application cycle, I've had a paper accepted to a conference (this October!), and I've been working towards a graduate certificate in women's studies. So far, that GPA is 4.0. One of the courses was a history grad course, and that prof offered a LOR. I've also made better contacts within departments. Oh, and that GRE class may or may not count for something. I hate that test! I am visiting several schools and doing interviews. I hope that helps, too! For us doing a second round of applications, it shows a lot. We never gave up, we have come back to our passion. It demonstrates that we are dedication and a greater sense of purpose, especially if we can demonstrate that we tried to bolster our credentials even in the face of rejection. -- At least, I hope so. Here's to us!

I have to admit my guess was because I say she was at CUNY. That sounds like a very interesting focus. I enjoy all of American history, but in the end I think that my focus will be US cultural, political, women/gender since 1945. Though, I will state that much more elegantly in my statement!
-
I'm going to guess economic history, if only because I just finished Stein's book.
-
In the beginning, I was completely confident that, though my GRE suggested I was in need to help that they would see my GPA, writing samples, resume, and LORs and take a chance on me. Turns out I was wrong. However, the only school I truly loved hasn't said a word to me yet. I had great conversations with Temple, and early, too. I just pray that they give me the opportunity. Man, I'm all sentimental and full of hope -- at least until I hear otherwise!
-
Have you heard anything? The MA deadline was Monday. I've been rejected everywhere else so far. It's Temple or I wait tables another year and live at home with my parents. Ahhh.
-
I haven't even finished my application for my MA. I'm never getting in. Ugh.
-
Its not official from UMass, Tufts, and UF - all rejected.
