  1. I would look at the production of knowledge
  2. I saw on the results search that someone is going to decline their offer. Now, all of a sudden, I can't seem to find that result anymore. Did anybody else see it or am I hallucinating?
  3. No, I don't think so. But it definitely doesn't hurt.
  4. I think, for most of us, we are finished with the admissions process and we are all kind of tired of this stuff. Most of us are on visits and in the process of making a decision. April 15th is just around the corner.
  5. I think it would be wise for you to delete this thread.
  6. I don't agree at all. Practice very specifically for the GRE
  7. That's what I was thinking... enroll in one of his classes.
  8. What do you mean "expects you to drop out"--i.e., not complete the degree?
  9. I think this is the norm. We were talking about this in another thread, also. I'm not sure how one could work and be successful in a PhD program. Either way, at any (serious) program, work is limited to TA or RA.
  10. I think the best idea is to email some of the grad students at those programs.
  11. I'd go with the American school
  12. Hmm. Good question. May I ask what school?
  13. Well, my Fall 2015 season is over. Looks like I'm moving to either Ann Arbor or San Diego. I wouldn't wish this application process on my worst enemy! I'm glad it's over, happy to get back to real work, and very excited and pleased with my prospects. I think, in the end, thegradcafe made me feel anxious more than anything else. Either way, I'm excited to see what this next generation of sociologists has to offer and I hope to see you all at ASA over the next years.
  14. All of the programs that are worth going to won't let you work. Either way, you *would not* be able to be successful in a PhD program while working full time. Do you think you can read 100-300 pages a week, writings papers, doing stats/theory, while working?. I doubt it.
  15. Didn't Yale give out its acceptances already?
  16. If anyone is looking for a place to live in Boulder, please let me know.
  17. I was accepted to UCSD for PhD. How difficult is it to rent an apartment in San Diego (Hillcrest/Northpark/OB) when one is not actually there? I'm going to have to do it from here in Colorado.
  18. Just throwing it out there that I'm moving for my PhD and I'm putting my apartment up for rent. I live three blocks away from campus right in the heart of Boulder. Amazing location with Flatiron views. Beautiful, classic old Boulder home. PM me for details. You can google the approximate location 915 Pleasant Street, Boulder, CO, 80302.
  19. Because of their illuminati connections to government agencies, and lizard people, because... the History Channel... Or maybe they really like the band The Postal Service?
  20. Funny, this study was conducted by a physicist here at CU Boulder. Interesting that he did not graduate from an elite school and is now a professor at one of the most prestigious physics schools in the world (5 Nobel prizes in 10 years).
  21. I met Samer this past winter break while I was on a trip to Palestine. He is *super* cool.
  22. Intellectuals, Knowledge, Orientalism.
  23. I have a tattoo on my neck! I've been worried about it.
  24. I'm with you. I feel like there is something a bit opportunistic about it on their end.
