lore got a reaction from UnlikelyGrad4 in SSHRC Doctoral Award/CGS (funding for 2018-2019)
Haha, good, keeping the physical proof of my failure last year is good for something. So, unsuccessful (but waitlist) letter starts like:
Dear NAME: I am writing on behalf of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) to advise you of the outcome of your application to the 2017 Doctoral Awards competition. I regret to inform your that your application was not among those award funding this year's competition. Although the Council is not able to offer you an award at this time, your application was deemed of high enough quality for your name to be placed on a waiting list... blah blah blah information about scoring/my score

I have it too. Not to discourage anyone - but I don’t think it means anything to see the option to apply for the supplement.
I’m pretty sure I had it last year too and I was waitlisted. So, don’t take it too seriously if it’s not there.
Also: in terms of research - there is literally no way I can do my research anywhere but a very small specific area of Canada, so I don’t think that it matters if you specified regions outside of Canada either.

AH. I can't even deal with this right now.
I got offers from three schools (and no decision from the fourth) for SSHRC, even though I've already declined admissions offers from two of the schools.

lore got a reaction from thepinkdragon76 in Best Rejection Reactions - 2015
Well, I started translating the application fees into bottles of wine and the resulting number makes me sad and WANT the hypothetical wine. And then one I heard recently: "If I wanted to pay so much to be rejected, I would have just paid for an online dating service."

lore got a reaction from Kleio_77 in Ever met someone famous?
I met Hayley Williams of Paramore and she said that I had a pretty smile. That was really cool.
Oh, and Margaret Atwood replied to one of my tweets. (Though, alas, I have never met her though I have heard her talk live.)

lore reacted to Lorelai_Gilmore in Lesbian life in various places (recommendations? warnings?)
^ I can sort of speak to Toronto. It's extremely gay (male) friendly, and there is also a pretty active lesbian community. I only go there every few months for a lesbian or queer lady night, and it's always packed. The few times I've visited U of T, I've instantly spotted queer women. A pansexual female friend of mine went to U of T for undergrad and she quickly developed an extended queer community.

lore got a reaction from .letmeinplz// in Does this mean I'm in?
Sounds like one of those pesky automated things that has nothing to do with any decision other than a system set to remind anyone with an account to update their password every X months.
But, doesn't mean anything bad, so that's good too!

Now I'm thinking about admission decisions like those dumb check yes or no notes
What about Matt Nathanson - Answering Machine? The first line mentions letters, so a little too close to home, maybe.
"Try and breathe some life into a letter
Losing hope, we'll never be together."
Or, for the assumed rejections and waiting for the inevitable, Robyn - Call Your Girlfriend? Like, the knowing that it is coming and waiting for "the talk".
"Call your girlfriend
It's time you had the talk
Give your reasons
Say it's not her fault
But you just met somebody new
Tell her not to get upset, second-guessing everything you said and done"
This is a good thread.

lore got a reaction from Garyon in That fake out moment!
I got woken up by an email at 6AM and it was one of those moments where I thought that it absolutely HAD to be U of T, because it's the only school I applied to out east and them emailing at 6AM PST (9 for them) made so much sense.
Turns out it was just from Hudson's Bay about a sale. I preceded to fall back asleep and have a grad admissions nightmare. /sigh
Maybe I'll get some good news today.

Accepted for UBC English (masters). I'm glad that I received an acceptance before anything else. (I'm so on edge right now.)
