  1. Hi all, I just submitted a few apps but if I get into one of the schools, I will still have 2 prereqs to do. My plan is to register for them for the summer, and if I don't get into or don't go to that school, drop them. Courses are as follows: - Introduction to Speech/Language/Hearing Disorders - Neuroscience for Speech and Hearing I've taken all other prereqs at Utah State but unfortunately they don't have the above courses. Where can I take these two courses online for a reasonable price? Thanks!
  2. I'm wondering how people deal with a header on their SOP's. Right now, mine are just documents of text. Do you normally put your name at the top? A title? An APA formatted heading? Might be a silly question, but any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Hi mccamp, thanks for the input. Would you consider taking a peek at my resume to see how you think it's looking?
  4. What are most people's deadlines like? I find it odd that most Jersey schools are so late- Feb 1st!
  5. Hi TakeruK, I'm currently still on my father's plan (still young enough) but won't be for too much longer. That has been my thought, that the ACA coverage doesn't take assets into account. My concern NOW is the genuine reality that our new President might start dismantling that. So I feel like I can't really bank on it anymore. I was considering swapping over NOW to my employer's insurance and hopping off of my father's, because if I leave around next August, COBRA would be an option. Found out today though that COBRA for my employer's insurance is over $600 a month and that's just not doable while living on literally no income in grad school..
  6. I'm only applying to 4 master's level programs and it seems only one offers insurance. About $3000 per year. The others do not.
  7. Hey all, I'm not sure if this is in the right area, so bear with me. I'm currently working, saving up money while applying for SLP grad school. The goal is to have 20k + in the bank by the time it would start, and using that money to pay rent for 2 years while applying for loans to cover tuition. My question is this....how do you handle health insurance in grad school? In this situation, I would have way too many assets in the bank to apply for Medicaid or any insurance through the online marketplace. Private insurance is astronomically expensive. How does one handle this situation?
  8. EDIT/UPDATE: One of my schools would NOT accept the Ecology course, nor an animal science course. Please, if ANYONE knows a school where I can take both Bio (human bio ideally) and Chem, fairly inexpensive, hopefully not too difficult and can still enroll now, in November...help ):
  9. Hey everyone, I need to register for two USU courses that will fulfill ASHA's science requirements. I was going to do BIOL 1010 for the biology course but it looks like no bio is being offered in spring? Help! Any experience with WILD 2200- Ecology of our World as an acceptable bio course? And suggestions for physical science through USU??
  10. Thank you! Some of my schools, resume is optional, so hopefully it's not a real big deal. Honestly, though, I hardly have any SLP-related experience so I feel like I have to make it largely a work resume. I got my BA in Psychology and have been working in mental health since then. I've done online pre-reqs, but that's it. Perhaps a section where I go into the research I did in undergrad? Psychology research, but research nonetheless......Thoughts?
  11. Thank you for the advice! I'm an out of school applicant, applying with a BA in Psychology for a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. I have taken several pre-requisite courses directly related to SLP and required for entrance to the programs, so I'd like to somehow keep them at the top with the rest of my education. They are legitimate courses.
  12. Hello all, Currently applying for Master's programs. I'm curious as to how you all handled your resume. Do schools really want your actual work resume, the one I have on file if I were to apply to a new job?? Just seems odd to me. I have thus far removed the "Objective" portion of my resume as I feel this does not make sense. Thoughts on this? Also, has anyone submitted a resume and listed in your education that you're currently still in school? I'm trying to figure out how to list my current enrollment in Utah State online courses, given that it's not a degree program....
  13. Does anyone have opinions on when to submit if I am currently still in two pre-req courses? I feel more comfortable with schools receiving transcripts that show I completed all pre-reqs and what my grades were, but I also would really like to apply early. Do schools seem to mind if you are still in progress with a few courses?
  14. They changed it. The new question is so vague, haha.
  15. Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I'm applying to NJ schools, four in particular. However I just found out one of these starts in the summer, and all pre-reqs must be completed by May. I'll be doing two science courses in spring and I just CANNOT complete the one other pre-req I'm missing by May as well. So it looks like this school is off my list. I'm also panicking that my list is now just three schools. Also, I'm trying to get apps going NOW and I'm just uncomfortable that my transcripts will indicate I'm still in process of taking my 5th and 6th prereq, but I don't want to wait until they're over in December. Does this matter? This process is completely overwhelming. Thanks for listening. Kate
  16. You guys are amazing, that's so helpful! THANK YOU!
  17. @plume I'm just so confused because at the individual sites where you apply, I'm not seeing CDSCAS listed. Also, I went here: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/participating-programs-2/ Only ONE of my schools I'm applying to is listed. What does this mean?!
  18. This might be really dumb, but can someone explain what exactly the CSDCAS is? I'm applying to schools this fall. I guess it's like one central place to simplify apps but is that necessary if i'm only applying to four schools? Ugh I feel so unprepared
  19. Thank you so much for all of your answers!!! Is it normal, though, that I can't view the essay question until I submit my application??? Specifically, currently looking at Montclair's app. There's a short initial application and I cannot view what all the supplementary items are until I certify, sign, and finish it. Is that normal? I'm tempted to just do so NOW so that I can see what else I need to do...
  20. Hey everyone, this season I'm applying for the first time and have some questions as I'm not familiar with the process. 1) Do you generally write a different SOP for each school? 2) In what order do you do things? Technically right now, I could submit applications. Do people normally submit the apps, then at some point just make the their letter-writers send in the letters and their GRE's are sent over? Or is there a specific order? 3) Looking at some applications, they have sections for "relevant work" and for extracurricular activities. I have been working and doing plenty of extracurriculars but they really aren't related to SLP. Should I put them all anyway? Thanks Kate
  21. Huh. Interesting, jpiccolo. And yes I'm aware many are not open yet. Perhaps I'll go ahead and wait then. I'm not sure where I heard it, but I could have sworn someone said the earlier the better for GA positions. But maybe not!
  22. That's true! Theoretically I could even try a commute for the first semester and find an apartment if that doesn't work out. I'll look through GA positions too!!
  23. Hi all, I'm taking pre-reqs right now and will be applying this upcoming fall/winter. So far I've taken 4, and am about to start 2 more. Do you think it's better to wait until those courses are finished (December 12th-ish) and THEN apply, or go ahead and apply while I'm still taking them? I'd honestly prefer to wait so that they see the completions and the grades, but I'm aware that the earlier you apply, the better shot you have at acceptance and in PARTICULAR at a GA or TA position.
  24. menge, thank you for this reply! Maybe it really is something I can consider..... does anyone else in the field of SLP have comments regarding a long commute??
  25. I'm actually in central western Jersey, right on the river. And I have, but in Philly the rent would be the issue. Rent is VERY expensive unless in a not-so-great area so it would end up being similar, cost-wise. Delaware I've taken peeks at but again the tuition is so similar that it just seems more of a hassle. Unfortunately while my important people are in Jersey, they're in middle-of-nowhere Jersey And i've been told an hour and a half commute in SLP grad school is insane with the amount of work that needs to get done.
