  1. This post sums me up perfectly. Got the recommendation for admission email on the 6th, sent an email to that effect to my POI which he replied "Congratulations, goodluck". Now its been two weeks and still no official letter from the department (or graduate school)...Not that I am worried since I know it will come in latest on Monday according to the Graduate school secretary who I have a rapport with.
  2. Relax, u will be fyn.
  3. Hi Bro, Can I send you a mail? Need to ask you some questions.
  4. Got my recommendation for Admission mail on last Friday, with the promise that I was going to get the formal admission letter containing words on Funding and Fellowship (if any) 'as soon as possible'-Its a week today still no news.. I guess 'soon' means different things to different people tho.
  5. Hi guys, By 'informal acceptance' do you mean the one from your POI or 'departmental recommendation for admission'? If it is the later, I also think its a formality..but that isnt stopping me from being partially paranoid even of I just got a department recommendation last friday and still awaiting the formal offer and details of funding.
  6. Wow...Thanks I asked because I've read lots on here mention something along the lines of Tuition waivers+GAs being the two main advantages of Assistanships/Fellowship. I like the idea of getting fellowships in lump sum at the start of each semester tho..At least it guarantees It can be used to cover tuition expenses which eases one off a little(as being an international student from a developing economy, things may be abit rough) although I realize all dis is irrelevant unless I get it, so we'll see what happens but I believe the best is going to cone my way..
  7. Hi Got admitted into a Canadian University for a research based Master's Program but no word yet on funding..I did however read on the website that the University gives students funding of 17k+ CDN per year which is divided into GA(which is valued abt 7k), and some sort of stipends(about 3k).. But here is my question, will the remaining 7k be used as part tuition waiver? and if not, how is funding usually structured in Canadian universities wrt to monthly pay and tuition waivers?
  8. Guess this is my new abode now.. Just got offered admission for MSC but still waiting for wors on funding..Hopefully it comes in soon enough.
  9. Thanks Guys, Guess I would be sending those mails then.. I got my offer of admission yesternight and I'm super excited as my research interest is one I cant wait to pursue.
  10. Yeah..Congratulations I got the same mail too notifying me of admission into my program of interest. ..I am super excited I tell you..It says Details of funding later tho. Thanks to all members of the house, its been an awesome journey
  11. Hi Guys, I applied to a canadian university for a thesis based masters of science Program. As part of the application requirements, I had to find a supervisor who was willing to work with me (which I did, at least thats the idea ivget from our mail exchanges). I have subsequently applied two months ago but since then we really haven't exchanged emails or research or anything noteworthy save the casual update on ny application status I send him whenever I notice a change in my status on the school's portal. Now heres my question, Should I contact him regarding advances in my intended research area or just wait on the fringes till I am admitted then relate better on some new inventions wrt my research interest?.. I fear not communicating with him during this admission review process can portray me as being uninterested or clueless or whatever..None of which I am btw. Plz I really need your imputs as I also found out the said POI also chairs the Admissions committee of the department.
  12. This is quite unlike me. For some reason I cant seem to find concrete date for my university or program on the result page and this has further fueled my paranoia as I'm in the dark about admission or rejection. I sent a mail to my admission officer last monday and expected a reply yesterday which hasnt yet come in and that isnt helping much either. For your own case though, my advuce is that you contact the department to know your stand..Its the only logical thing to do.
  13. The 500-Word SOP sure was a killer..I felt I wasnt allowed to detail my research interest as much as I wished and that may well be t the deciding factor.
  14. Its 18:31 by my timezone now and I've checked the mail about 30 times today already. This wait is excruciatingly annoying and thats being very modest.
  15. Kind of what I keep convincing myself will happen with my application too. My portal is scheduled for upgrade tomorrow (whatever that means) and I have somehow manage to coerce myself into thinking surely they are going to be updating statuses when I check back even though they had the same upgrade last wek and nothing changed. I guess I'll have to wait and see what eventually becomes of the application but I'm in over my head already and any news now will just do.. Its the hope that kills.
  16. This is what absolutely confuses me. Why can we not message the department/POI/Admissions office? Its not like we are supposed to be emotionless robots who dont give a heck about their application. Some of us have life decisions to make, and it may depend in whether or not we are admitted into a program-And I wouldn't want to be caught in a fix where I get rejected too late not to be able to pursue my other options. So, definately call whoever you will feel comfortable calling and keep it brief, dont get too emotional..Just a lighthearted enquiry about the status of your application and you are good to go. And please, forgive my tone if I sound desperate. .lol The wait is killiiiing.
  17. Well after reading your post I decided to shoot my admission officer a mail too, and just like you I got an instant automated reply reminding me of the semester break and asking me to wait till Thursday(at the earliest before I get a response). At least, that should keep me sane for a few days yet.
  18. Amen.. Got lots of plans that depends on my admission to grad school.
  19. Right, I just went through the list of current graduate students in my program of choice in my intended university and to my suprise all the students ( about 10 of them) are from India/the middle east..Concurrently, they also seem to have joint undergrad degrees and Profiles(with several research works with Acclaimed Professors) at top research websites over the web. Now, I'm an African applicant, and although I am qualified for the program(on the basis of GPA, I shld be quite highly placed) but I cant help but think they probably won't really consider me, not that they are racists, no, but since I dont hold a joint undergrad degree and have only one research paper, They wont see me as a fit into such research intensive programme. :(
  20. Just had a dream (at noon) where I was applying for a research scholarship and was very confident of getting it in order to boost my application...Suffice to say, like all dreams with such happy ending in sight, it got interrupted by a call from my boss. I just... I can't even...
  21. I would think this actually great news as I believe they require your transcript in order to confirm your admission.
  22. Your Moniker
  23. In my own case I cant say specifically how I feel about the whole process. The only thing just about keeping me optimistic is my Program's promise of a mail regarding applications. I will advice though that you check the results and observe the timeline..Maybe you are getting paranoid over nothing.
  24. Congratulations.. Pls anyone else applied to masters program in Lethbridge for the fall?. Haven't seen anyone on the forum mention anything about the University and Results search isnt helping either as there's only one entry from way back in 2010.
