That's how I found out that I'm wait-listed, too. Professor Wegner responded very quickly. -

Most of their PhD applicants only have a BA, and a lot of them get funding. According to my MA application, though, a TAship is a possibility for MA students. -

Maybe UW is like UT and this means you're wait-listed! I applied to UW's MA program this year, but when I applied to the PhD program last Fall, they were the last school I heard from. I think it might have been April by the time I got my rejection . . . ? April or very, very late March. I think their application rate jumped up a lot last year, and they may have had trouble handling it. -
Just replied to your message, Serac. I'm still considering my options for schools and probably won't be deciding anything until I hear from both of my wait-list schools, since I prefer them to my two admits. Thanks for the info re: Claremont!

I'm not expecting to hear from either of my wait-lists until much closer to April 15th. Since I like both wait-list schools better than the ones I've actually been accepted to, I won't be making any decisions until probably right before the 15th. I'd guess that this is true for a ton of applicants, so we'll all be waiting it out for 3 - 4 more weeks, I'd bet. Good luck, everyone!

That is an alarming statistic on the funding. I'd take another offer if they weren't offering any kind of TAship.

I applied to 11 schools this year, and I plan to study postcolonial lit. A lot of the schools that have been mentioned on this thread are extremely competitive, to the point that it's unlikely you would be admitted (or that anyone would when there are 400+ applicants for ~10 spots). There's no reason not to apply to a few very difficult places--I certainly did--but there's also no reason to apply to only the "best" postcolonial programs. Like tumtumtrees said, there are postcolonialists at most departments. What I would recommend is really doing your research: find out which schools have a couple or more professors who are in your field, who approach postcolonial theory and lit somewhat like you hope to, and that have excellent resources at their disposal. Contact your POIs if at all possible to find out more about their work and about what they look for in prospective students. I think that my mistake last year was just choosing schools that I really liked the idea of and then cranking out kind of generic SOPs for them. I'm having a much more successful year right now because of the effort I made to find a different set of better-fitting programs. It takes a crap-ton more time and effort and, can't stress this enough, RESEARCH to find programs that are an excellent fit for you and to present yourself successfully to them. Just try not to write a school off because it isn't "prestigious" or because it doesn't have any celebrity-level profs. A whole lot of people launch amazing careers from PhD programs that don't get tons of hype!

Thanks! Much more hopeful about it than about UT's waitlist. -

Just learned that I am "near the top" of the MA wait-list. I'll be remaining on it. -

Thanks! I'm in Austin, and spring break here isn't until next week. That hadn't even occurred to me. p.s.- I took classes with Professor Wegner during my first year of college, and he's one of the nicest, most easy-to-talk-to professors I've ever had. -
I think most of their MAs get funding, especially since they don't have any PhD students to fund. But, of course, how many is "most"? Haha. I'm waiting on Georgetown, too. Not expecting anything until late this month, although sooner would definitely be better!

Haven't heard back yet. Maybe we'll just have to wait it out . . . but I'm hoping to get an email with some kind of info today. -

Finally cracked and emailed Professor Wegner about the MA applicants' timeline for decisions. I feel bad because he must be absolutely swamped with inquiries, but I now have offers waiting from other schools . . . -

Are you an MA or a PhD applicant? -

Has anyone called or emailed about when MA applicants will hear back? -

Nope. I'm planning to call them towards the end of the week about my other offers; depending whether I get in anywhere besides Carnegie Mellon, I'll probably remain on their list for as long as I can. -

I'd like to know soon, too, just to rule out another visit weekend or wait-list. Things are getting complicated and I want decisions to be made! p.s.- Lyoness, did you cross out Kansas just because you've decided not to go there? -

I really wish they'd contact the rest of the MA candidates. This is going to make things difficult with visit weekends and decision deadlines coming up so soon. I can't believe that it's March 7th and I'm still waiting on eight out of eleven schools. -
Just got in at the professional writing program, with quite a bit of funding I'm going to grad school! Regardless of whether any of these PhD programs work out for me.

I emailed on Monday to say that I'll be remaining on the wait-list for as long as I can. I haven't heard back, but my email didn't really require follow-up. They must be insanely busy right now, though!

That definitely seems to be the pattern; UF is still working on PhD admits, apparently. -

I went to UF for a year of undergrad, and yes, Gainesville is doable on 11k. It would be a little restrictive, but I feel like that's kind of to be expected when you're just starting out in academia, haha. So just to be clear: Most of you guys are waiting on PhD notifications, right? I keep wondering if the results on the board are putting PhD when they're really MA . . . I'm applying with just a bacherlor's.
