A SCREEEEEEEEEAM INTO THE SILENCE

I just found out I have to work all day next Saturday, and some makeup broke in my bike bag and turned everything I own a chalky tan color. AWESOME. PityParty! -

I can't believe there's NOTHING from them yet! Do you think it will be three weeks even until the admits? I was expecting admits to begin days ago. If this weeks ends with no news, I am going to be so tightly wound by Monday! -

"I'm sure you'll get in somewhere!" "It doesn't do any good to worry about it." "You can always reapply next year!" "You didn't want to live in ______ anyway." And, the worst one, FROM CURRENT GRAD STUDENTS: "Uuuugh, don't go to grad school, it's so much WORK." Excuse me, but you don't understand how hard it is to have a shitty boring job in the real world, and I would LOVE to take your place if it's too hard for you in your PhD program! Sick of hearing it all! -
It's very hard to tell with these programs because there are SO few posts on the results board! I have no idea when to expect a decision, because I could only find one notification from last year. Maybe that means less competition...? Who knows.

I've cried every 2 or 3 days for the past couple of weeks. It's so unlike me to be this stressed out and worried. -
I applied to the MA in Educational Administration. I guess they're separate departments? Congrats on your acceptance!

I've made a point of not revisiting my statements of purpose and my writing samples, because I know it'll just drive me crazier! You're brave to try to keep improving them. -

Yeah, that'll be NEXT week! I'm so glad I'm not the only one with ZERO news. It's making me so paranoid. -

Is this whole week going to go by with nothing? Wow. Just wow. -

I think the email was a response to a phone call I made, although I made the phone call almost a week ago, so it's hard to say. Everything feels pretty disorganized. For instance, apparently my file is "complete", yet the online checklist still says they're missing all of my transcripts. I'm just leaving it up to Fate now, because I can't worry about it any more without sacrificing the rest of my sanity. I wouldn't worry if I were you; if you sent all of your documents, chances are that they have them and just haven't bothered to make that clear through their online system. Several of my schools have done this. I don't know why they even create the checklists when they don't utilize them. -

They just sent me a notification saying that my file is complete, that decisions will be made within three weeks, and that they'll be sent by mail. Since they give acceptances by phone, that totally ruined my morning, even though she probably wasn't writing with my application specifically in mind. I'd think they'd start admittances this week . . . ? -

Me too. I don't know if I could handle doing this a third freaking time. Good luck, guys. -
asked to verify in-state residency

I asked them by phone and they said, "Residency is a completely different classification", whatever that means. I don't see why they'd bother to verify it if it wasn't going to matter to them, but who knows, it's all so convoluted and they don't really tell you anything. ARGH! -
I've lived in Austin for the past six months, and applied to UT for this fall. I just got a letter asking me to send a fax from my employer to verify that I've been employed in Texas for the past six months (which I have) in order to claim residency, since that will make me a resident as of fall 2011. The letter also mentioned contacting "your financial aid officer" to see "how your financial aid package will be affected." Does this mean anything? Has anyone else applied to an in-state school and received something similar? I don't want to get my hopes up if they do this for everyone who claims residency in their app, because I definitely haven't been officially admitted yet. What do you guys think? This is so nerve-wracking!

I feel exactly the same way, waiting on twelve schools . . . I am so discouraged already because this looks like such a hideously competitive year and my confidence is shot after not getting in anywhere last year. My job is boring, so I spend all day totally preoccupied, F5ing GradCafe and my email, and reading blogs and the news. I can't wait to get home every night so I can dive into an engaging book! This miserable wait needs to wrap up. Geez.

Apparently Stanford admitted two people to one of their programs this year. TWO. 2. Two. I really hope things aren't just insanely competitive again this year. Last year was bad enough what with applications doubling and tripling. -
I see an acceptance to the Special Ed PhD program . . . any admits to Higher Ed Admin or other education programs yet? I'm waiting on the Higher Ed Admin MA and getting so nervous!

Waiting on the Professional Writing program, too. When were the English applications due? The writing ones weren't officially due until today, so it'll be a while yet.
