  1. That is awesome! Our stats are similar, and my BA is also from a little-known liberal arts college. I do not have an MA yet, so technically I applied to UPitt's MA program, not the PhD. Congratulations!
  2. Just wondering if any of the acceptees are on the forum and would like to share their stats. I especially wonder what types of undergrad institutions everyone comes from, since I earned my BA at a somewhat unusual school and am trying to see how that might affect my apps. Also, scary that they're sending the emails on a Saturday. I always try not to think about this stuff on the weekends . . .
  3. It looks like someone got an email from Pittsburgh this morning, unless they just didn't bother to get the date right. They're in the film studies track, but I would guess that means all UPitt applicants can look for replies soon.
  4. I'm postcolonial American and British novel, and postcolonial theory.
  5. Bottles, I am also waiting on UF's English program, as well as English programs at UPitt and UW! The vast majority of my apps were due in January, but all of the programs tend to notify mid-to-late February. Some of them go into early March, and of course some rejections are still coming in April. I kind of think that February 14th will be the beginning, guys! I love this forum; this year I'm not living on a college campus, so no one else around me in person is spazzing out. This place reminds me that I'm not the only one. Cheers!
  6. I wrote down the average dates of notification last year for all of the twelve schools I applied to this year, and the earliest notification was February 18th! So no worries yet. I plan to start freaking out on the 14th.
  7. I emailed Professor Schnakenberg in the department and received a very fast, very kind reply saying that they will take applications until the 15th and that all applications will be considered equally for financial aid. WHEW! She was super nice and reassuring, and said that they were just careless with the posted dates.
  8. I'm emailing them now, but I'm not too worried since they are still going to receive and review my application. I enclosed a letter saying that I hope the change in due date won't affect my application in any way HINT HINT. Thanks!
  9. When I began my application, it was due on February 15th; this afternoon I logged on to see a message changing the due date to February 1st! They're still taking apps until the 15th, but I gather that those arriving after February 1st might have a harder time with funding. This is very lame because it was their mistake, and no email was sent to applicants who had begun online applications. I mailed my supporting documents and submitted my online app about ten minutes ago. Thought I'd let everyone know.
  10. I also contacted the department last week, and they had received all of my materials. I guess they just don't bother with the online checklist, although I wish they'd tell us that! I was sweating over the packet I sent them for days.
  11. Yes, I'm in for the MA as well! There are hardly any entries for it in the GradCafe archives, but it looks like early March is a good time to expect decisions. Good luck to us all!
  12. I had this problem with my UW application. I finally emailed them the other day, because it's been almost a month since I sent everything in. I got a very nice email saying that they've received everything and that my application is being reviewed. So they might just be terrible about updating those online checklists . . . it sucks, but it seems that all of my schools have received all of my materials, contrary to what 1/3 of my checklists say!
  13. I didn't want to list my applications until I finished submitting them, so: WUSTL (English PhD) UT-Austin (English PhD) UT-Austin (Higher Education Administration MA) Oxford (English MPhil) U Pittsburgh (English PhD) Boston U (English PhD) U Florida (English MA/PhD) Georgetown (English MA) Carnegie Mellon (Professional Writing MA) Whew! I can't even describe how nervous I am. I applied to several places last year and got in nowhere.
  14. Thanks. I applied to the MA program this year. They're actually starting earlier than some of my schools . . .
  15. I had this same problem with my applications last year, and spent a lot of time freaking out about it. However, all of my materials were received on time and EVENTUALLY processed. I would not worry too much. Plus, if a school that's interested in you is missing one of your transcripts, they'll most likely contact you about it. They won't assume that you forgot.
  16. For anyone else out there: I emailed the department and they let me know that they do not send out any kind of confirmation email. Just check your status online, and if all of your materials are in you can assume that you're being reviewed now or very soon!
  17. Yes. Yes it is.
  18. Thank you, that's awesome! Probably never would have found it myself considering how much time I've spent on their extremely confusing program websites . . . I had kind of sworn off!
  19. I'm basing my expectations on last year's posted results. So for instance, Pittsburgh notified most of their acceptees around Feburary 16th last year, so I could start freaking out around mid-February if I applied there. Can't have any pointless freak-outs, now can we! . . . oh wait. HAHA.
  20. Yes, I'm not expecting any news from any of my twelve schools until the third week of February at the earliest.
  21. Hmm, maybe I should feel encouraged!
  22. I do similar things! Probably just weird but not necessarily unhealthy responses to the enormous amount of stress we're all under right now. Good news from a single school would seriously change my entire outlook on life. I haven't felt entirely like myself since this process began, which was LAST fall for me. I am so anxious and worried almost 24/7. ARGH.
  23. Just wondering if anyone else on GradCafe applied to University if Texas at Austin's Higher Education Administration MA program. I'm wondering if folks might know how big the cohort usually is, how likely funding is, etc. I don't know a single other person "in real life" who's applying.
  24. I've applied for Higher Ed. Admin. specifically because I want to stay in the college/university environment if possible. Glad I'm not the only one!
  25. I'm definitely leaning towards the English PhD just because I've always wanted to be a professor, but administration has interested me for a while now. I started my Ed. Admin. application as part of the "oh god English is way too competitive and I'll never get in" freak-out, but after doing some research I realized that it's a field I'd really enjoy. So, I'd be happy with an admit to either program! How did you first learn about Ed. Admin.? I just stumbled across the degree on UT's websites without ever having heard of it before.
