I applied for an MA in Higher Ed Administration at UT-Austin, in addition to a bunch of English PhD apps. I think I'll be hearing from them in early March regardless of their decision.

I'm applying to Carnegie Mellon's program for Fall 2011. All of my other apps are to English Lit MAs and PhDs. -
UT Austin: residency?
tortola23 replied to tortola23's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
(And do you guys think this would affect my admissions decision at all?) -
I've been living in Austin for the past sixth months, and therefore I can claim that I am a Texas resident. I'll be filing taxes independently of my parents for the first time in April 2011. BUT. Does anyone know whether it would be to my advantage to remain an out-of-state resident by remaining dependent on my parents? I didn't go to school in Texas, so I assume the department would consider me an out-of-state student, but I'm not sure what to do here. Obviously I want to be in-state if that might help me, out-of-state if that would be advantageous. Any ideas?

Thanks! I think I'll try to wait another five days . . .

I know that the scores are already available by phone for $12, but what's the date when they come out online? I remember seeing November 19th somewhere, but now I can't find that info. Thanks!

Has anyone else heard from Santa Cruz? They apparently do decicions in March, but here we are halfway through and still nothing.

Scratch that. Just got a rejection via email. -
Just emailed the department to ask if they're doing any notifications soon. They've had the apps forever and they've probably finished with their decisions, so I think they need to process everything and notify everyone. Kind of sick of not being able to plan the next year of my life because they can't be bothered to send some automated emails.

No idea, but it doesn't seem that they've accepted anyone yet. This is one of my first choices, I wish I knew more. -

I am 99.9% positive that Santa Cruz hasn't even begun notifying yet. Apparently they send notifications "throughout March", so that could mean tomorrow or three weeks from now. Hopefully sooner rather than later... Also, if you wanted to call or email them about it, I found them super helpful and attentive when I contacted them while applying. -
so how are you holding up?

I'm not feeling very positive about getting in anywhere, so I've been focusing on getting excited about moving this summer. I have no idea where I'll be going, but I'm not moving back home! It's going to be a year of something totally different: not being in school. So I'm going to do my best to enjoy it and have a great time. -
Rejection letter finally arrived. It's well-written and very polite, mentions large number of students, small percentage they're able to admit, etc. Bad news is bad news, though. Ugh.

Yup... all of this is extremely disheartening. -

I'm English too; you haven't heard a thing from Penn State either? Do you know if they've made all their offers? I am guessing that they have... -

I've obviously been rejected from UPenn, although not notified yet. I've also seemed to make some kind of "first cut" at Buffalo and at Chapel Hill; I wasn't rejected in their first batches of negative notifications, but probably will be soon. The ones I'm still hopeful about are Arizona, Washington, and Santa Cruz. -
My status changed on the 26th, they emailed me to say that a letter was on the way to the correct address... I still haven't received one! It's driving me nuts. Has anyone else had an update but still waiting on a letter? Argh!

Any fresh news on this program? My status still hasn't changed and I still haven't heard anything. -
hope for unsuccesful applicants

Thanks; all of this is good to know. I really do not want to be too discouraged to apply again in the fall if this application season keeps going badly.
