  1. Hi! I'm currently a Post-Bacc student at CSULA. Congrats on getting in! I'm not sure how the semester system is working in terms of how many classes you take. Semesters won't be as rigorous as the quarter system I went through. I've worked throughout the program, but I took 3 COMD classes for the first two quarters and 4 classes spring and will take 4 in the fall. I took a 4th statistics class my first quarter to cover the ASHA requirement (and most Grad school pre-req). I tutored two afternoons a week after class, on Fridays and bartended most weekends. It's a LOT of work to do this program. I had to cancel work some weekends in order to keep up with midterms, finals and projects. You won't be able to work fulltime and also be a fulltime student, but part-time work is doable. I didn't want to finish in one year because I wasn't going to apply the fall with only 4 COMD class grades. I'm applying this fall and feel like I'm in a better position for Grad apps. This program is great, but the work load heavy. Dr. Flint can help answer any questions as well. Private message me if you want any other info!
  2. Great advice, mcamp! I will definitely find faculty publications to read! And I'll make sure to check out your blog.
  3. Thanks for posting this! Your advice is great. This summer, I'm visiting schools that I want to apply to in the fall. Currently, I'm in the Post Bacc program at CSULA. Would love to go to CSULA, but the competition is STRONG. Do you have any tips for on-campus meetings? Are there ways to stand out to a program prior to applying? Are there certain questions you asked programs to gauge if that was the school for you? Do you recommend follow-up emails or thank you cards? thanks!
  4. I'm interested in the College of St. Rose for spring 2017.
  5. @girlgonespeechie Congrats on getting into two great programs! Seattle is a wonderful city. It is more expensive than living in NC, but you get the experience of living in the Pacific Northwest - one of the most beautiful places in the world. This decision isn't easy. From what I know about CF - you can do it anywhere after your graduate from grad school. You have more connections if you stay in the area that you went to school BUT if you went to UW, you'd be graduating from one of the best schools in the country. good luck with your decision! I'm still in the researching grad programs part of my journey, so I can't give you first-hand advice about this.
  6. Congrats on getting into two amazing programs! Both schools know the students they accept are applying to similar programs. You may not be the only person who is in this predicament. Ask the schools if a compromise can be made. Can you spend the first half of the day at Rush and then take the train up to Northwestern? or vice versa?
  7. Thanks for the advice everyone! Best of luck to those in the midst of grad school decisions.
  8. San Diego State doesn't have interviews.
  9. Hi all! I'm wondering how much it helps to be an active member of NSSLHA?? Do research projects or volunteer work in a related field actually help when schools are making decisions??? Do schools really care? It seems like a lot of SLP grad programs look at GPA, GRE and maybe a letter of intent. I know the school I'm currently taking my Post-Bacc doesn't care much about extracurricular/volunteer activities on the resume. I've heard multiple professors say they would rather the student spend their time studying. What are your thoughts? My undergrad GPA in a COMPLETELY unrelated field was 3.4 - my current GPA as a post bacc is 4.0 and I work my butt off hoping to keep it that way. I'm planning to apply for Grad programs this fall to start fall 2017.
