Thanks! That's what my POI told me, but this process is making me the most paranoid person haha And wow, it must feel awesome that your hard work is finally paying off

I don't think ryerson POIs are done contacting people yet, so you might still hear from them! Also, I believe the Concordia interview day is just for certain POIs. Don't give up on them yet

FacelessMage, if you don't mind my asking, is your interview at Ryerson a preliminary interview with your POI or were you invited to the actual interview day? I'm pretty sure the official invitations aren't going out for a while, but I'm neurotic and had to ask! And congrats on all the interviews!

Thanks for the ideas! I don't normally wear petite sizes but I'll check out those places. Unfortunately I don't think we have Macy's in Canada, but I will look at juniors sections in other stores!

Does anyone know where I can get a blazer or something to fit a very small person? I got an interview invite without much notice and I just went in basically every store in my subpar local mall and couldn't find anything that fit. I'm not that short but I am very thin, and professional clothing all seems to be huge on me for some reason. I have a feeling I'm going to have to buy a bunch of things online with express shipping... This is not going to be fun considering I'm both poor and Canadian.

Getting MSc before PhD applications in Canada
Clinpsyc01 replied to Piagetsky's topic in Psychology Forum
I think the biggest thing with getting a master's before a PhD in Canada is that when you apply to clinical programs, you will still most likely have to apply to the MA/MSc rather than the PhD. It seems that although a lot of schools do accept PhD applications, it's very unlikely that they'll actually accept external PhD applicants. You seem to be aware of that, though. I've also gotten the impression that some programs prefer students straight from undergrad, but even at these programs there seem to be students that have taken many years off after undergrad or who did masters programs. Overall, I don't think it's something you need to worry about. There may be some POIs looking for impressionable undergrads who they can mold to their liking, but those probably aren't people you'd want to work with anyway. -
This is kind of a dumb question, but one of my POIs invited me to a preliminary skype interview, and sent a doodle poll for applicants to list their preferred time. I'm supposed to check off every time/date that I'm available, right? It looks like other people selected multiple times, but I'm neurotic and don't want to commit some kind of stupid faux pas.

It looks like someone got an interview at UVic too. I didn't apply there or to Waterloo, but it's kind of terrifying that people are getting invites already!

I know for Dalhousie, the clinical faculty are going to meet in the first week of classes after the holidays and decide who gets cut based on grades, GRE, references, etc. I believe that after the first cut is made, profs get to go through the list and decide who they want to interview/accept. So it probably varies by POI. I also know from an acquaintance's experience that they don't send rejections until April ish.

Does anyone know what it usually means if a scholarship application says the deadline is at midnight on the deadline date? Say the deadline is December 1st. Would the application close the minute it became the 1st at 12 am, or would it close right at the end of the day as it becomes the 2nd? I'm talking about OGS, if anyone is familiar with them. Being the genius that I am, I decided to wait until the deadline (tomorrow) to finish uploading all my materials, thinking that the application would close at 12 tomorrow night. Now I'm concerned that it's actually closing in a few hours, and I can't finish my application before then due to other commitments. The countdown thing says there's one day until the deadline so I'm hoping they actually mean tomorrow night. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Good luck everyone I hope I'm not the only one scrambling to finish everything!

I submitted an application for a graduate program, but my POI just told me that she has decided not to take a student after all. I know it happens sometimes, I'm just conflicted about what to do now. The faculty at this school have pretty disparate interests, so she was really the only person in my area. I'm thinking I'll finish my application and submit my SoP, etc. since I've already paid and I like the program, but I don't know. The school very strongly recommends contacting potential supervisors in advance, and I can't really contact someone new before Thursday. What would you do? Do you think it would be weird to ask her to recommend someone else? Thanks in advance for any replies

Hey guys! I sent a score report to one of my schools a few weeks ago using the university code and what I thought was the department code. It turns out that although they told applicants to send scores directly to the department, they don't actually have a department code. Does anyone know if my scores will still end up at the graduate studies office since I included the university code? I'm trying to get in contact with someone in graduate studies now, and I'll honestly probably resend the scores, but it's stressful finding this out now when the deadline is getting close!

First sentence of SOP
Clinpsyc01 posted a topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
I know pretty much everything I want to say in my statement of purpose/statement of interest... Except the first sentence. I have no idea how I should begin it. I don't want it to be too abrupt, and I also don't want to start with one of those grandiose statements about my longstanding interest in the field. What did you guys do? -
Hey guys! I decided at the last minute to apply for a CGS-M so right now I'm scrambling to put together a decent proposal. I'm applying to CIHR, and my proposed research will involve recruiting participants. Do I need to state where I plan on conducting this research? I was looking at an acquaintance's proposal from a few years ago and she stated the specific university and health centre where she planned on doing it, where she was going to recruit people, etc; however, I believe she only applied to one school. I'm applying to a bunch of schools, and I'm not familiar with any of the hospitals, etc. in those areas so I can't say where I'll be recruiting my participants or anything. Is that okay?

Just wondering if anyone has used the Princeton Review book to prepare for the psychology degree, and if so, how that went for you. I accidentally bought it instead of the Kaplan book and, honestly, I'm not very impressed with it. It's obviously not the only resource I'm using, but I'm still hoping it was somewhat useful for other people! Also, if you used it, how did your score on the practice test compare to your real score? Thanks in advance!

From what I've heard, a lot of people have had this same problem. ETS seems to have been having problems with basically their whole website for a while- I can't even sign into my account. I would try giving them a call. Good luck!
-
This thread was really helpful to me, so I thought I'd share my scores! I used the ETS official guide and did all the math problems in Manhattan's 5 lb. book. I took practice tests over the course of about two months, with more towards the end of my studying. ETS book 1: 168V 153Q (at the beginning of my GRE prep) ETS book 2: 169V, 161Q Manhattan 1: 165V, 159Q Manhattan 2: 165V, 160Q Manhattan 3: 164V, 158Q Power Prep 2: 168V, 157Q Manhattan 4: 166V, 159Q Power Prep 1: 167V, 161Q Actual (unofficial) score: 169V 161

Should I send my scores on the day of the test?
Clinpsyc01 replied to Clinpsyc01's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Thanks guys! -
I can't decide if I should send my scores when I write the GRE tomorrow. It would save me $140 (I'm Canadian), but I'm not very confident that I'll get a decent writing score. I would love to save the money but I'm terrified that I'll send my scores and then find out that I bombed the writing section. Do you think it's worth it to take the risk? What did you do?
-
Very late response, but thanks guys
-
Thanks! I took the practice and scored around the 90th percentile, so I'm slightly less worried. Still kicking myself for switching from the October to the September date though lol

I'm taking the psych GRE in September, and I just haven't gotten around to studying for it because of work, research, studying for the general GRE, etc. I'm also going on vacation next week. Realistically, the most I'll be able to study is for a couple days next week after I take the general GRE, and then for two weeks after I get back from vacation. Is it possible to score well with just two weeks of studying? I majored in psych and have taken courses in every area that's tested, but I'm still freaking out a little.
