  1. I think a few years ago someone mentioned that a certain school sent them all applicants a fat envelope about reasons why the city/town was great.
  2. I think (historically) Purdue has one of the oldest and had one of the largest rhet-comp programs. It's a great program but the size and history somewhat accounts for their representation in the field. If memory serves correctly, Purdue and Carnegie Mellon's programs were both created in 1980. There were a few rhet comp programs before this but the majority of them were created much later.
  3. You can still apply to Penn State's MA program even if you already have an MA.
  4. The following schools have been mentioned to have invisible or unofficial waitlists in the past: Georgetown Purdue Wisconsin Penn State
  5. Indeed! Based on the data I have, they like notifying during the last week of January.
  6. It is my understanding that Wisconsin Literature and Wisconsin Rhet/Comp notify at different times. At OSU, they are housed under the same program. At Wisconsin, Rhet/Comp is a stand alone program.
  7. Correct! Made even more confusing because some schools use it in addition to their regular waitlists. Some schools also place you on that (invisible) list if they are trying to get the funding made available for you to attend.
  8. It wasn't. It was posted on the Waiting It Out board. I saw it pop up yesterday which probably means I'm spending way too much time here while waiting on e-mails. I would be curious to know what they consider Literature though. It's possible that Comp. Lit and different language literature may have been included within that. Some programs have 'invisible' waitlists! I think a lot of smaller programs only accept as many people as they can admit to their class. Once they reject, those spots become available again. They do this to avoid over-enrollment.
  9. I think the same person posted a thread here: As always, gre averages are tricky. GradCafe tends to attract applicants with higher scores. At times, v+q scores can be flopped accidentally. But it is nicely done.
  10. So, which schools do you think will notify earlier than usual today?
  11. TWU (Rhetoric) Feb 1 UTexas at San Antonio - Feb 1Southern Mississippi (Feb 15) University of Louisiana-Lafayette (March 1) Oklahoma State University (March 1)Villanova (March 1 for MA)
  12. @unræd tends to be right about these things. They had a killer app season a few years ago. I think the only schools in which you can assume a rejection from if you haven't heard from them for an interview are Notre Dame and Chicago. Some schools do have invisible waitlists. I think they do it to avoid overenrollment.
  13. It seems that a decision has been reached but it may need to be processed through the grad school first. I imagine you'll have a notification fairly soon.
  14. Historically, OSU tends to send acceptances, rejections, and waitlists very closely together. If not today, I imagine everyone will have an answer by tomorrow. University of Minnesota has also historically followed closely to OSU's acceptance dates.
  15. Congrats!! Unfortunately, Old Bill retired in August from the forums.
  16. Congrats! Emory tends to decide who gets waitlisted and who gets accepted from their invited list.
  17. Congrats! Those small programs are hyper-competitive! Curiosity: Did you look at Michigan's dual phd in English and Women's Studies?
  18. I think @la_mod might be able to give their perspective. =)
