Shellacked again...

FWIW: Grad conferences are often led by graduate students in the program. And some conferences have a bias of accepting their own classmates before accepting external applicants. -
And congrats to the Wisconsin acceptance!

Or maybe the person that's assigned to e-mail you is on a lunch break? It's only 1:00 in Chicago. Positive thoughts.
-
Probably safe to cross them off if no e-mail arrives today.

From what I remember of previous cycles, Tennessee has a habit of sending out rejection letters before sending out acceptance letters. This makes sense because it allows people to not be waiting too long. As a result, I think their acceptances for the PHD program might come out this week. Waitlisted applicants might have to wait a bit more. Good luck!

Out of curiosity: Did you ever look into UT Austin's RTF Program?I recall hearing (once upon a time) that they were big on that. -

FWIW: A program I spoke (I can't remember if it was in Rhet/Comp or English) said that their program does include the work cited page in their count. They told me that I should cut the works cited page if I'm over the limit. Other directors have said other things. I ended up cutting a different part because I felt the works cited page was too important to cut. YMMV. -
Congrats @Cotton Joe! I'm looking forward to more good news next week!

Congrats! That's awesome!

ACCEPTED TO ILLINOIS AND NOMINATED FOR A FELLOWSHIP!
-
I think it was previously joked on these boards that Harvard/Yale tend to break hearts on Valentine's Day. I'm happy that this might be a move away from that. Earlier acceptances mean that students have more time to decide before the April 15 deadline.

Schools often notify special fellowship winners before they notify other people of their acceptances. As far as I know though, Harvard has always funded everyone equally. ETA: This isn't the first case of Harvard notifying by phone. It seems like one's POI can call an applicant first. This could be followed by a letter from the DGS. Based on that, e-mails can go out as early as next week. Harvard and Yale have also usually notified a day apart so it would be interesting to see if Yale will notify soon as well. Lots of admission decisions have come in early this cycle. We may be looking at early decisions from all schools.

Seems like Harvard is pulling some surprises? They usually don't notify until around Feb. 14. Huge congrats to the person accepted!

Some people mix up their Verbal and Quant scores. Others may be applying to more than one type of program and get schools mixed up. I'd imagine that English, Literature, Rhetoric, Comparative Literature, and Gender Studies might be some of the programs that have the potential to be misreported. Rhetoric can be tricky because it's housed under English in some schools while serving as a standalone department at others. Literature and English are the same at some schools. But there's also Duke which considers them to be two separate departments with some overlaps.

Unfortunately, I think @FreakyFoucault is right. It's hard to say. Chicago has split notification days in the past. And we're only aware that it was Notre Dame Day (and Duke?) because somebody posted their results. Chicago and Notre Dame usually result in a few posts though. I'm curious if the number of admitted students decreased from the previous 2-3 cycles.
