It's possible that: -The waitlist is invisible (and nobody knows until accepted) -They have rolling admissions -They only accept as many people as they can fund and will admit more as soon as someone rejects their offer. -They accept more people than they expect so have no need for a waitlist. While not common, there's at least one university which follows each format.

found this on an old 2011 post: Brown has finished making their decisions. Out of about 450 applications, Brown will be making 16 offers for a target class of 6.

I think I got lucky. My dog just likes to sleep and cuddle. She's even more cuddly when she realizes I'm sick or having a bad day.

First off, congratulations on a positive response! It's always good when connections are made. It really depends on the universities. Some universities pay upfront for visits; some reimburse; others do neither and all expenses for visiting are your responsibility. Additionally, program policies might differ within the same university; sometimes it is a case-by-case- basis.

Congrats on the acceptance! Perhaps, we'll see each other around. Fun fact: I got confused when a different university spelled my name wrong. Turned out that the department had my name spelled wrong but that the grad school had my name spelled wrong. Not sure if it was a typo on my end when I submitted a form.

We'll just take our talents elsewhere. I think that might have been the snowiest place on our list! So, I'm looking forward to less snow.

If I recall correctly, Columbia, NYU and Chicago have a lot of overlap I'm not sure about Cornell and Brown's major overlaps.

As a side note on the ivies, people (often) get accepted by multiple ivies and top tier programs. I think the most common overlaps are Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Michigan. As a result of the overlaps, a few more spots generally open up later.

USNews ranks Rutgers (#34) and Northeastern (#60). USNews does rank Programming Language as #13 for Northeastern though whereas they do rank Rutgers. A lot of this depends on your specific interests. There are some important questions to consider besides rank: Are you interested in the courses offered at each university? What about professors? Is the stipend enough to live on? What are the graduate assistantship requirements? How many courses are required? How long is the program? What other resources does the department offer? Are they placing students in positions that you'd like to work in?
