  1. Congrats @marycaryne! Welcome to the other side
  2. Oh, I should specify, the 200 sq ft doesn't include the bathroom for whatever reason. But yeah, I totally have kitchen cabinets above my bed, always fully stocked with potato chips and Twizzlers, of course
  3. I mean... if you have a really crappy definition of "capsule wardrobe" I have one as well. I have 7 plain tees, one pair of jeans, and two hoodies. But I don't consider that particularly trendy As a side note, the first thing I'm doing when I move is adopting a cat (or two!) I'M SO EXCITED.
  4. Awesome!! Seems like you won the PI lottery
  5. I kind of like being able to reach my bed, fridge, and oven from my desk thank you very much!
  6. I'm excited to move out of this apartment... 200 square feet, one window, no disposal/washer/dryer, and I've gotten three fines so far for leaving dishes out to dry because it says in my lease I'm not allowed to do that. FINALLY A REASONABLE LANDLORD!!
  7. I'm with you @rhombusbombus. I'm not sure why I have an entire closet of clothes when I wear the same 7 shirts every week
  8. I've always had a dishwasher (thank goodness) but this time I'll have a WASHER AND DRYER IN MY OWN APARTMENT. AND A GARBAGE DISPOSAL. I'll be living like a queen! And I won't have to pay $6 and have to go outside to do a load of laundry!
  9. Nothing wrong with dreaming big
  10. I'd be down for that!
  11. Yes! It's going to be quite the party here
  12. And they've got to understand that. Put yourself in their shoes.... I guarantee you'd want the prospective student to go wherever would make them happiest.
  13. I know... I unofficially told the professor I worked with at Boulder last summer that I'd be going there for graduate school if I got in. I said this like two months ago, and I emailed her a few weeks ago to say I'm going to Cornell. She hasn't responded yet... Also, are you also sick of the surveys that some schools give you when you reject their offer?
  14. Yep, I just sent out an email asking my LoR writers if they'd support me next year as well. Woo!
  15. GUYS SOMEONE PLEASE SHOOT ME. I made the horrible horrible mistake of reading through my NSF application and found that I made the dumbest, most idiotic mistake that has ever been made in recorded history. I didn't mention anything about being a coauthor on any publications! And I've been a coauthor on several (and first author on one)... this is how I got into graduate school, I'm sure of it. AND I DIDN'T SAY A SINGLE WORD ABOUT IT.
  16. Yeah, everyone I've spoken to seems to think it's a crapshoot. With my luck, all of my reviewers will have woken up on the wrong side of the bed to a broken coffee machine.
  17. Congratulations @Neist! The other side is so much more relaxing, right? (or at least, it will be in ~2 weeks )
  18. I agree! Although, I only had a sentence about "broader impacts". I don't even know why I applied with that
  19. I'm really jealous... no one in my department even told me about it. No one has certainly ever gotten it (though I think one person applied years ago). I only found out about it because I did an REU last summer at a different university. -grumbles-
  20. To be fair, that 2007 was only 40 minutes away from being on a Tuesday. The fact that some of them aren't until almost mid-April (6th, 10th) makes me want to crawl under my covers and die.
  21. If Northwestern or UMich are considered settling, then I'd say you're doing just fine
  22. I'm going to ask the question we're all thinking... why not let us know immediately when everything is uploaded?
  23. I swear, if I get the GRFP even though I wrote my application in the week before it was due, I am going to be so ashamed...
  24. Ha! Mine was the day before. Like you, this is totally not my style, I'm always the one who finishes assignments way too early. At the time of submission, it was literally "I have to press submit regardless of how good it is, so that I can say on my grad school apps that I applied". Plus, if nothing else, they give you feedback.
  25. I've already started softening the blow by telling everyone that I won't get it and didn't try very hard on my application. Which is true, but it still helps to console myself.
