  1. Thank you! I sure hope so... I'm obviously skipping recruitment and admit days, too, since I'm so far away. So I'm watching video clips of universities. Most are actually more of promotional videos than welcome videos. This one's for you:
  2. Reading old threads on this site with info about my prospective schools... watching welcome videos of those schools on Youtube... stalking POIs online... refreshing my inbox and the results board 2936426 times a day... Oh you asked what I do to distract myself. Alas I've tried over and over and failed every time.
  3. I hope you hear back from Amherst soon. Both places sound like really great options! Yes, thanks... I have a really great offer from UC San Diego, and my prospective advisor there seems to be an amazing mentor! I was also interviewed by MIT and Virginia (results will be out soon I hope!), and I’m still waiting on NYU and Northwestern. I’m from the Philippines, but I have a Master’s from a US university in Hungary. This process has been such a huge emotional roller coaster!
  4. Congrats! And thanks... I got rejected, but I was already expecting it. Berkeley was really just my top choice initially, although that changed over the course of the application season. Do you think you’ll accept their offer?
  5. Well, I got rejected, too. Same method. I didn’t even get interviewed, so I was expecting it. In fact, no one in the faculty ever even replied to my initial inquiries before applying (except someone who just said—in a weird way—that he wasn’t accepting students). I so believed in my heart of hearts that I was such a great fit with Berkeley, but apparently I belong somewhere else. I guess it really is for the best, so no hard feelings!
  6. Sending positive vibes to all bio folks!
  7. Has anyone here heard back from Berkeley, especially those in medical anth? So far there are one reject and one waitlist on the scoreboard for medical. I haven’t been interviewed, so if they’ve already started to announce decisions, I just want to know if it’s time for me to abandon all hope on Berkeley at this point. I’m also still waiting for Northwestern and NYU, no interview either for both of them. Should I cross them off my list?
  8. Is it just me, or is the results board being flooded by spammers?
  9. Thanks for starting this, @phyanth!
  10. @Ben Merrill I got into UCSD, too! I actually do medical anthro, but I got in as sociocultural because my POI is with the sociocultural faculty and I don't do psychological anthropology. My POI called me today to let me know. This is my first acceptance so far and I am soooooooooo relieved!!! *exhales*
  11. @MedAnth2016 Glad to hear that! So apparently the posters are in sociocultural… I wonder if medical anthro applicants are being dealt with separately. I'm so anxious because Northwestern is one of my top choices!
  12. Are you also applying to the joint medical anthro/MPH program @MedAnth2016? I haven’t received any email from Northwestern and have been panicking since the first interview post on the results site yesterday. ☹️
  13. Thanks a lot, TakeruK and museum_geek!
  14. I submitted my application to Harvard just in time for the December 15 deadline, and I reviewed my application materials after hitting the dreaded "Submit" button. To my horror, I realized that I had written "Sociocultural Anthropology" in my statement of purpose instead of "Social Anthropology," which is what Harvard offers. I had checked the same document over and over again before uploading it, but as luck would have it, it was too late when I realized my mistake. Do you think I should I write to the DGS to "correct" this mistake or at least to save face by apologizing for it and explaining that I am aware of the differences between "social" and "cultural" and "sociocultural" in terms of academic tradition? Or am I just obsessing about this detail that they probably won't notice or care about?
  15. Hi fellow gender studies folks! I was just interviewed for my application to the PhD Comparative Gender Studies program of Central European University. I think I was able to give a few good answers, although I honestly think I could have done better (but then again we can always do better). I only have two applications; the other one is the PhD program at the University of Paris 8. Did anyone else apply for admission to CEU? Or is anyone applying to Paris 8? I'm just so nervous and it would be so nice to hear from others in the same boat!
