  1. Declined Cincinnati - hope this helps someone!
  2. I was told that I was first on the wait list, although I do not know if I was first for my interest or overall. Good luck!
  3. Very tough decision, but I just declined my wait list position at Mizzou.
  4. Ah, yes. I saw the one waitlist for Duke, but I was still (perhaps misguidedly) trying to hang on to hope because I hadn't seen any other information. In any event, it looks like you already have an acceptance and some waitlists, so you have beaten the odds! Congrats and hope you hear more good news.
  5. I noticed in your signature that you have presumed a rejection from Duke.. do you know people who have received acceptances? I applied there and have yet to hear anything at all.
  6. Anyone else see that Duke waitlist entry a few days ago? Has this been confirmed? I don't even see any acceptances for Duke.
  7. Congrats Turretin! That's awesome that your first notification was good news!
  8. I would imagine that this is a very important skill in academia, and I commend you for it. I am rethinking my whole strategy for my statements of purpose now, and it's just counterproductive at this point.
  9. The unranked schools I am applying to are: University of Cincinnati, Utah, UW-Seattle, and University of Oregon. For most of these schools, someone (another student or a faculty member) mentioned that there was someone at those schools who I may want to work with. Question for others, though: even if the quality of your education/the faculty is not dependent on being ranked or not, do you feel as though it is easier to get in to an unranked school? (Of course, I am leaving top ten schools out of this consideration for obvious reasons.)
  10. I'm no expert here, but I would imagine your philosophy grades would demonstrate an ability to learn about, examine, and analyze abstract concepts. If you were doing philosophy of math, this might be an issue. I'm not even sure about that claim, though.
  11. Off the top of your head - are there any other quaunt-heavy programs that would disqualify a student for having not outstanding Quantitative GRE scores? *cough* Asking for a friend with a meh quant score.
  12. Good point. I agree it might be surprising. However, if it's only one year and doesn't appear to be a trend, I wouldn't dismiss a school because of this fact alone.
  13. Why is that shocking and/or a bad sign (if you take it to be)? Maybe everyone who graduated decided that they would be better suited not going to a philosophy phD program, which says more about personal growth and introspection than the quality of the classes or faculty. To be honest, I thought that part of the reason one would choose to go to an MA program was to decide if academic philosophy is really something that aligned with said person's values, time commitments, and goals in life. I don't think the fact that no one applied out is a bad sign for those who want to go there in the future.
