Congrats on the admission! You seem to have some major decisions to make regarding your belongings. :-) If you are a packrat like myself, you may want to have a heart-to-heart conversation about what you really need and what can live without. A vehicle is great to have, but parking on campus is a nightmare. The city bus system is pretty efficient and reliable. I'm bringing a car because I am so far away from home. The apartments in Bloomington are nice. I found one decently priced and about a 15 minute walk from campus. It all depends on what your looking for. Also, if you want a roommate, individuals post listings on the classifieds section of One.Iu all the time. I wish you all the best as you fly to Bloomington! I am sure you will love it!

103 days until I move to Bloomington! Super Excited! In the meantime, I am looking for cheap storage units in the area. Do you happen to know of any @LeventeL, or anyone else who cares to chime in?

@aslabchu Thanks! I shopped around a bit. Had some sheisty looking situations, but WE MADE IT!

FINALLY SIGNED A LEASE!!! This is getting real! Bloomington was so amazing this past weekend.

@aslabchu Thanks for the useful information! I will be traveling to Bloomington this weekend for a conference, and will be looking for an apartment. Do you mind sharing the names of some you visited that were not as awesome as they seemed ?

I so look forward to moving to Bloomington. Once the apartment battle is over, this will feel more real. Has anyone heard anything about the on campus apartments? I thought maybe living on campus for a year would ease the transition. Any thoughts?

Introduction to POI at a conference
Phiner. Determination replied to cheesecafe's topic in Psychology Forum
Met my future advisor at a conference by stroke of fate 7 months before submitting my application! Continued to run into him at several conferences afterwards. Though he wasn't present at my on campus interview ( very busy man), our previous interactions had given him insight into my career aspirations and program match. Plus he already had my personal contact information ( business card and emails), so it made the process a lot easier. Great Idea!! You Got This!! -
@aslabchu Congratulation on accepting the offer!! Yea, the "Welcome Day" for my program is in August. Pretty excited. Just needed funding to be sorted out. It is almost impossible for out of state students to declare residency for tuition purposes. Apartment hunting has been eh. Thinking I may have to secure a roommate do to stipend levels .

Congratulations on your acceptances! I was in a similar boat with the four acceptance I received. All were top tier, R1 universities, and very prestigious programs. It came down to funding, research focus, and opportunities for academic/ professional growth ( Dual degrees, community impact, conference presentation rate, opportunity for international travel, and the mentor to mentee ratio). Also, seeing that this is a 5+ year commitment, I researched the environments thoroughly. This included the campus and city. Bloomington is a wonderful place. The city is amazing, and the university offers a plethora of supports to its' students. My only tip would be to do some soul-searching and get a independent feel for each community. Think of where you want to be in the next five years. Which program can offer you the most support and resources to reach those goals? Also, if community is important to you; what are relationships like among program members? Is there conflict and turmoil, or is there a sense of togetherness and unity? It is a very difficult decision to make. You are right where many of us find ourselves during this time. I have full faith that you will make the decision that is best for you. Just keep exploring your options and be cognizant of your future aspirations. Again, congratulation!

Yes! Such great information!! I looked at a few apartments in both areas. Will surely be sending in a app soon for a couple of places. Are you currently attending IU?

So looking for apartments kind of suck..lol I am hopeful, but things are getting costly! Well worth it though!

What were you doing when you received your acceptance?
Phiner. Determination replied to YA_RLY's topic in Waiting it Out
I was cooking breakfast and getting ready to travel to yet another interview. Got a phone call from a mysterious number ( I am starting to like mysterious numbers), that turned out to be my POI for the program. The conversation lasted for like 30 minutes. I silently screamed the whole time. There were moments that I broke out in dance and jumped around the room while he was on the phone. I hope he did not hear the gasp for air as I rolled around on my kitchen floor. I finally got myself together and wrote " F#$% YEA!!" on a slip of paper attached to my refrigerator. The program had wait-listed me two days prior, so I had given up hope in being accepted. Nothing like Pancakes and an Acceptance to start my morning! :-) -

CONGRATS!!!!! :-) -
@PhDinPublicHealthHopeful I am super excited to go! My friend has been looking some. He is moving from FL and has some friends who have relocated already. :-) I hear Pride is amazing in SF. I never been to one before, but SF sounds like a ton of fun! I hope you hear from them soon! I am not sure if your National Body has deadlines for offers like psychology, but they should give you all enough time to consider your options.

@PhDinPublicHealthHopeful You are welcome!!! Waiting can be tough. I am hoping for good news for you! Have you contacted the school to check your status? I have never been to SF. I am super excited to visit!! A friend of mine is planning to move there, and is hoping to find a place during our visit. Plus, it will be pride weekend!!

I would say it is like a blue dot in a sea of red. lol The housing is nice in the area. There are parts of town that are better than others, but it is a wonderful city. Yea, you are going to have a fun time adjusting to the weather. It can be pretty cold. For the most part, it has been warm here in Southern Indiana. Are you moving in the summer? I see you are from CA. I am actually visiting the San Francisco in June.

Where have you/are you going to DECLINE(D)???

School: University of Iowa Program: Counseling Psychology -Great School and Program Hope it opens a spot for someone on the waitlist! -
There are some nice homes in the area. I visited a couple of times. Most recently during my interview. The winters can be rough. I am from Michigan so I am use to the weather. I would say it is a lot warmer than Michigan. Indiana's winter lasted for about a month! lol Most of that month there was no snow. The snow brings so many additional activities though! Plus, the number of shops, theater, and eateries will take you mind off of the cold. You will love it!!

Yes!! The city is amazing! So much to do and see! It is like a hidden gem in Indiana. The campus is SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL! I fell in love as soon as I got out of my car! I hope you hear from them soon! It really is a wonderful place. :-) Finding apartments will be the struggle, but it is worth it!

Hi there! I have an offer from IU that I would be CRAZY not to accept. Thought this would be a great place to chat with others about the preparations for IU. Maybe even share tips and tricks relating to apartment hunting and other fun (stressful) activities. GO HOOSIERS!!
