Make sure they hard guarantee the funding too. Michigan has had funding issues this year, which culminated in their withdrawing offers to some accepted students. Their AHRQ grant renewal value was lower than expected because their grading relative to their peers dropped a good amount. It is possible that those who have a first year package there may end up with underfunding or funding problems in the later years. Try to get the details to avoid any surprises that they may not be directly telling you.

Got rejected from UC Berkeley. You should check in with them in case you haven't heard back yet. Heard they had huge funding issues this year like Michigan. But think UC Berkeley was a lot smarter than Michigan, and waited to admit people based on funding. Michigan accepted a bunch of people and then told them "actually nevermind we don't want you" because funding was only enough for a few. Michigan didn't get their AHRQ grant renewed, so they're going to have very low funding available to their PhD students for the upcoming 4 years, which was upsetting to hear. Good luck!

Well you can stay for a few days. Explore the city beforehand, do the visit day, explore some more or a neighboring city. Then go home. Usually they provide you some funding or you can ask. -
Compared to last week looks like we're hearing a lot fewer decisions this week, but it's a Thursday so maybe today or tomorrow.

What would you guys consider the top 3 PhD HPM programs to be? Sorry I'm just trying to get familiar with the landscape. Is it (1) Harvard, (2) Hopkins, (3) WUSTL?

Of course, people at the moment are getting off waitlists. And because it's after April 15, they're declining PhD spots they had already accepted. That's just how it works. And then there's a trickling effect.

I got rejected by Hopkins for the PhD in HPM. But I got into their Masters for Health Economics. I know this thread is for PhD, but what do you guys think of this masters in terms of value, reputation, likelihood of getting into the PhD program. Sorry if I shouldn't be asking this.

Anyone here back from Michigan HSOP? They said they released some decisions, some more left. Isn't Michigan supposed to be the best HPM PhD alongside Harvard and Hopkins? I don't know too much about positioning and which are the "best" or most "selective" in the public health space, wish I knew so I could know my chances.

Does anyone know if JHU is sending out decisions in waves? I noticed they sent out waitlists last Friday, so I assume they sent out some acceptances too then. But most likely they're probably taking their time to put together the big rejection email list.

It's also really concerning that the number of spots available this year may be much less given budget cuts to AHRQ which funds many of these programs.

Hopefully some decisions come out tomorrow, seeing we've already moved into February now, and tomorrow's a Friday.

Do all decisions come via email? Or do you have to check portals too? They can't possibly expect you to check the portal for your decision right? ... Maybe an email to check your portal.
