  1. Thanks @jpiccolo and @eggfish for responding. I have heard that getting a TSSLD (Teacher of Students for Speech Language Disabilities) is really hard to get if you don't go to graduate school in NY because it has specific requirements. All the programs in NY make their graduate students get the certification through their program. Even though I don't want to work with children, the director at NY Medical College said that sometimes it is still required if working with children in medical settings.
  2. Anyone know if you can go and visit the campus/get a tour a different day if you cannot make the open house? I have classes 8am-1pm and I go to school in Rhode Island so it would be pretty hard to get there. Anyone in the same boat?
  3. Hi guys! Is anyone strongly considering going to NY Medical college? I wanted to start a topic so those who have been admitted can start talking! Would you guys be commuting or staying on campus? Anyone debating between this school and another? Nicole
  4. I also just wrote a post about this. I am considering 2 schools, NY medical college and MGH IHP in Boston. I am from NY and would like to live/work there after graduate school. I have heard that the hardest part about going back to NY after is getting the TSSLD but if you already have that from undergraduate I think you are in much better shape. I am not sure for me which is more beneficial, to go to a school in the state where I want to live to get connections or to go to the school where I have received a large amount of funding and has a great reputation.
  5. I have seen some crazy statistics on Ed find. For example, some of the schools I looked at had such a vague GPA range that I knew the information wasn't accurate. They would advertise something like a 2.94-4.0. I think it is mostly up to the school to send their most recent information. I would look in the FAQ section for the programs you are looking at. Those mostly have accurate stats.
  6. I would also be doing the adult neurogenic concentration! This school is definitely in my top programs so there is a high chance I will be going here. Just weighing my other options and trying to see where would be the best fit!
  7. Hi everyone,I am torn between 2 great graduate schools for speech-language pathology. One is New York Medical College and the other is MGH IHP in Boston. I know that I want to ultimately live and work in NY in the future but MGH IHP has offered me a large academic scholarship and it has a great reputation. Do you think if I know where I would want to work that it would be beneficial to stay in NY to make connections here during graduate school? Or go to the school that is out of state and then return to NY after? Any advice would be appreciated. I am not sure how difficult it would be to move states after gaining a Master's degree and how different licensing and certification works. Thanks!Nicole

  9. Thank you for sharing your experience! I did apply here since it is close to home but I have received acceptances from other schools as well. Sorry that you are having a negative experience there!
  10. Hi everyone! I have been accepted into NY Medical College and MGH for graduate school. I know I have a while to decide, but I am already feeling very torn about choosing between these two. I am very interested in medical speech language pathology, therefore I applied to programs that had more of a medical focus. However each school has their pros and cons. I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat or knows anyone who has been to 1 program or the other? Any advice would be appreciated. NYMC Pros: --Strong coursework, medical focus --Medical placements --Cadaver lab for anatomy --Graduate housing provided on campus --TSSLD certification (for working in schools) included in Master's curriculum --Connections around NYC --Close to home (I live on long island) Cons: --More expensive --72 credits in 5 semesters (MGH does it in 6 semesters) MGH Pros: --High ranked graduate school and well known --Received funding to the program --Adult neurogenic concentration --Connections around Boston --Medical based Cons: --Far from home (4 and 1/2 hours) --No housing provided --Program would require an additional summer --Would need to get certified in NY after graduation because I ultimately see myself in NY in the future
