  1. @mano mine is pretty much also just a word doc double spaced. Times New Roman, 12 pt. I do have some sections, but nothing nearly so extensive as @MentalEngineer's. I'm also coming out of undergrad, but I think (hope?) that simple style will suffice :).
  2. Cool. And thanks. Yes, I'm applying straight from undergrad. I think my records are strong, but there's never a guarantee, so I'm applying to a diverse list including some MAs :). But that statistic of yours is definitely making me confident in the decision to include MAs!
  3. Gotcha. I took a couple gap years, so juggling work with apps isn't any harder later than it is now. Sample's coming along slow and steady
  4. @desolesiiiThank you! Just hoping to get in somewhere at this point I look forward to your success as well. So you've already finished applying? Impressive. I'm still revising my sample and working on my SOP.
  5. Took a while for me to narrow it down, but the final total is 16: BC, BU, UChicago (Committee on Social Thought), CUNY Grad Center, Depaul, Duquesne, Georgia State (MA), Loyola U, Miami U (MA), UNM, New School, Northwestern, Oregon, Texas A&M, Toronto, Villanova Oof.
  6. @ABrown thanks! Due to my excessive paranoia, I'm joining from my side fb account which I made in high school (amazed I could still figure out the log-in!)
  7. Gotcha (I was on mobile and didn't see your little avatar info on the screen!). Well it sounds ambitious to me, but perhaps doable. I'm applying to philosophy programs and started on my sample a while back (same page count) but have progressed very slowly. For me, getting started can also take forever, so that's why I started on it so long ago. And in my case, my full time job completely drains me, so my work is really all done during the weekend. Basically I couldn't do it, but I can fathom that someone who's rather driven and whose process moves quickly could. For example, my boyfriend is also working on his application and while he's been thinking of his project for a while, he's only started writing very recently and he's progressing very quickly on it. So it largely depends on your own process/workflow/spirit! Ymmv Best of luck!
  8. I'm in the process of doing that so I can let you know how that goes after this admission cycle ;). It depends on how much time you have. Are you planning to apply this fall, or for 2018? What field are you going into? And what are the sample length requirements of the programs you intend to apply for?
  9. Welcome back to the admission cycle, @Turretin. I have 17 programs on my list, so I feel your pain- I've made a spreadsheet detailing the cost of apps/gre (plus a lovely 8.25 fee per transcript from my undergrad school). What's your AOI?
  10. @Dialectica perhaps it's because the majority of my lurking is done on a mobile device ;p
  11. Whoa when did they bring signatures back? (yes, I've been lurking for a long time before signing up/posting) Edit: Though apparently not lurking very closely...
  12. I totally would, but I'm friends with quite a few coworkers who don't know about my grad school aspirations yet. Bummer - hope it's helpful to those involved!
  13. Hi there, I'm gonna go ahead and try to revive this thread. I'm applying to programs for fall 2017 as well - there must be more than three of us lurking here? Getting anxious and it feels like the deadlines are already creeping up. How's everyone else doing? AOI 19th century German philosophy and Ancient philosophy.
