  1. Waitlisted at GW. Just need NYU and Emory to put me out of my misery and I can wait this out I guess.
  2. Fellow Wildeperson, may I ask how you know this?
  3. Why are there only rejections and waitlists on the board for GW? My application has changed and now says that it cannot be submitted because the deadline has passed so I assume they have started tinkering but haven’t gotten to me yet.
  4. WOO!!! Massive congrats! In undergrad I was really into Beckett and really wanted to go to TCD, it’s an amazing program, congrats!
  5. Yes, you can and should list it, at least until you have more substantial merits to include. As for the application, I think the foremost aspect to stress is how this will help develop your thesis. Talk about testing out your ideas and find similar talks you could benefit from or specific attendees you could talk to. If this is your first conference, or first conference of its kind (literary, regional, graduate, etc.), you could talk about gaining experience. Just keep in mind that if this is competitive (not all such funding is awarded based on merit, some institutions have a ‘spread it around’ policy) then everyone will be able to argue that the experience is important and you want be able to argue more specifically how it will help you grow as a scholar (what aspects you might want to emphasize will depend on the culture at your institution). Just realized you said you don’t know what papers will be given. If there is any information try to use it, but otherwise you should still be able to talk about your own paper.
  6. Apparently the UVA waitlist is split into fields.
  7. I contacted NYU and was told decisions will be sent within two weeks. I take this to mean I’m rejected based on the board, the timeline, and last year’s process.
  8. Was told I'm on a "semifinalist waitlist" at UV. Anyone holding offers or also on the waitlist, you mind sharing if you intend to accept and what your field is?
  9. "No dice", say Wisconsin. Maryland, similarly, say: All the dice have been thrown so... we'll let you know. (All offers and waitlists have been sent for UMD)
  10. Oh well, I thought I saw some UMD rejections which was why I thought it might be some invisible waitlist situation.
  11. Also waiting on a response. I think next week I will email all of my pending schools because at this stage I think it is reasonable to seek a response. That said, if anyone feels like giving calls and helping out be my guest.
  12. Thank you for this. Not sure how to feel about potential invisible maybe waitlists. I need to add a new color in my signature for this.
  13. Does the GW rejection have any clarification? No acceptances on the board, wonderimg what to expect.
  14. I think both parties were in the wrong. The first person was being inconsiderate and self-centered in their use of the results board. The second was mean-spirited and antagonistic.
  15. If you are torn I’d say wait. If you are fairly certain which one you’d prefer perhaps choose now to free up a spot. My thought is to choose as soon as you know, be it before or after visit, in February or on April 15th.
  16. That solitary Brown acceptance is really messing with my head.
  17. The GREs are kind of a strawman argument. Half of us say they’re more important than people say, half of us that they’re less. Ultimately, all arguments dismissing them are anecdotal (“look, I had X and I got in, my friend had X+1 and didn’t”), but whenever people seemingly in the know come around they suggest that it’s dairly important (which admittedly is also anecdotal). Seems like professors know it’s bullshit but administrations value it. Administrations have the money so my takeaway is: get them as high as you can without sacrificing your meal ticket (SoP, WS) to give yourself the best odds.
  18. Interesting. Why do resubmitted writing samples get tossed? For instance, in my situation I was very happy with my sample but not so much with other parts so I improved everything else, tightened the sample a bit, and resubmitted. You're saying the very act of resubmitting a sample is an immediate rejection? Why is that?
  19. Just saw it, my bad! Congrats to them, though!
  20. Well, someone posted that they got a phone call from Penn. Anyone here? Seeing as Penn is closed today, I wonder about this development. Did the people Penn use their time off to call candidates? I guess that's believable. Did someone see a new thread about Penn and conveniently a phone call from Penn took place that same day? Possible. Did someone maybe see it and decide to mess with us, I certainly hope not.
