  1. @wcslp i appreciate the honest opinion. I haven't heard back from quite a few schools at this point (ones that are cheaper), but with this new acceptance it just had my mind thinking if this was the school I chose. Thanks for the advice, and your experience! It is intimidating, and I plan to look at every possible option to lessen the burden of six digit student loans.
  2. Hello! I just got my first acceptance into SLP school (yay) but the reality of how I am going to pay for it is setting in. This first school acceptance is one of my most expensive schools, its about 75,000 for the entire program. I have about 15,000 dollars in undergrad loans so I am looking at about 90,000 in loans minimum. Is that totally insane? Has anyone here put themselves through grad school independently? Whats the smartest way to go about this? My school doesn't list any SLP specific scholarships, but I would like to look into that. I really want this, but I also dont want to drown in student loans. Thanks!

  4. I got extended an interview this morning and offered two days to come in, and it says if I cannot make these two dates I can wait for the next round. I know that doesnt exactly answer what you were asking but hopefully its helpful!
  5. Yes, the one school that initially said they wouldn't wait for it to update with my latest transcript eventually said they would wait for it, it just took a little bit of explaining my scenario. Which was the same as yours. It is one particular transcript center, and I got lucky that my school happened to use it. Even if yours doesn't you've done all you can at this point, and like I said email the departments, and call during office hours. I had four schools in Orange and they were all accommodating. One school said that all schools are aware of CSDCAS's process, and allow time for things like these.
  6. I confirmed I had to send it in. It sucked, and I wrote about it in my SOP. But its better to be honest in the end, and their system is pretty air tight.
  7. Literally almost the same exact thing happened to me on Thursday. I ordered the transcripts to be sent electronically which isnt guaranteed quicker, but tends to be so if thats an option I would do that. Anyways if it isn't so I ordered them Thursday, then I preceded to call/email all the schools that were orange. All of them except for one said they would work with me, and to just keep them updated. And even the one that was more rigid said that I would just need to call again. I was notified on Thursday, it was succesfully submitted on Friday, and verified at midnight on Monday. CSDCAS worked very quickly. Dont stress, just keep on top with the schools. I would send them all emails with a brief explanation today, and call in a day or two dependent upon your CSDCAS progress.
  8. Hellllllloo, so I have a somewhat choppy and unique academic records and would appreciate some opinions, or your own experiences. So I attended a four year straight out of college and completed over 120 units and received a 3.5 GPA overall and a 3.8 Major then the year after college I was lost and enrolled in a local CC and did poorly earned about 30 units with two repeats and a 2.27 (they were not CSD related classes, they were basic hard science classes, and one algebra two college course I took back in high school) This last year I have been in a post bacc SLP program and have a 3.85 thus far Now two schools are not CSDCAS but the rest are and basically my question is I know that all of these GPAs will be blended, which is unfortunate in my case because I feel like my CC classes were basically an experimental phase that I didnt use for much, but my undergrad GPA will still be represented by itself correct? I feel like my undergrad is decently strong, and my post bacc has thus far been strong, but my time at the JC was just...lost. Do you think schools will look at all these experiences desperately or just my CSDCAS GPA. Is all lost basically haha. I calculated a "worst possible scenario" CSDCAS GPA and that was about a 3.13 which i feel doesn't represent me as a student at all.
  9. Hello, Im gearing up to apply to SLP graduate school and I had a question, Since is it so competitive I want to keep my GPA as high as possible. I was reading online that you have to include all transcripts of all institutes applied to. AFTER i graduated from my undergrad I moved back home and took four classes at a JC in my hometown, I got C's and B's in those courses and really really dont want to report them. They had nothing to do with my academia relating to SLP or me earning my bachelors. Is this really going to be calculated into my overall GPA? can i somehow not do that? My friend just got into OT school and she didnt report her study abroad classes and nothing happened to her? Please help!
  10. Thanks guys! Its a gamble kind of no matter what, I'm just trying to make the best bet haha.
  11. Hello everyone. I am currently enrolled to do PSU's post bacc program starting Fall 2016. It is very expensive since I am out of state.I really want to get into school and plan on applying this Fall. What would be the smartest and most economical way to go about this? My current stats are: GPA 3.49 Last 60: 3.77 Major GPA: 3.8 ( i have a BA in Psych from a CSU ) Need to take GRE's, and have a good amount of volunteer work shadowing SLP's in schools, private, and hospital settings (about 150 hours of volunteer) I also have worked in a special ed class as an aide and currently work for a physical therapy company (not the same but relates so i thought it might help) Has anyone ever taken a few of the classic SLP prereqs (like 3-5) and then applied for a 3 year and gotten in? Or should I just apply for a 3 year with no pre reqs? Or should I apply for 2 year programs and be only able to report a few classes, and have the potential acceptance on "contingency". Basically I'm really conflicted on applying for the 2 year and looking weaker or applying for the 3 year and those having less acceptance and more money. Any personal experience or advice is appreciated
  12. Hello everyone, First off any and I mean any help would be useful. I graduated college in 2014 with a degree in Psychology from a state school in California. I have within the last year fallen in love with SLP and decided to pursue that. There are a lot of variables to applying, and its hard discussing it with others because they do not understand the complexity of grad school so forums like these are so helpful because I everyone here gets it. Anyways here is my question I would like to know if anyone has suggestions on where to apply, how realistic my likelihood of getting in is, and what type of program I should try for. Any advice would be appreciated even if it is something I dont want to hear. So my stats are as follow: Undergrad GPA : 3.492 (argh) Major GPA: 3.77 I have taken 5 speech pathology general prereqs at a different university and received a 4.0 GPA I have not taken the GRE's yet. And I have been a TA for Life-Span Development, shadowed a SLP for 80 hours in a hospital setting, as well as volunteered with three different SLPs in different school settings. Ive also worked in a special education classroom as an aide and have a variety of other volunteer experiences I could mention. So my main questions are... Since I have some pre reqs done but for most schools not all should I apply for the 3 year track some schools offer? Would this make me a stronger candidate since I have some classes? Or should I be applying to 2 years and see if I can get in on contingency acceptance and finish those classes? Does online classes VS on campus matter? and where should I apply? I would like to stay in California but I know its competitive so I am pretty much willing to go anywhere at the end of the day. Thank you in advance!!!!
