Do it!!!! Your question is a nice excuse to send an email with a heartfelt "thank you." And it is especially great if your question jogs her memory of you. Just don't mention that you forgot to email her or anything. My opinion is that it's better to do it late than never!

I applied to Appalachian State, but I don't know any more about the program than what is listed on their website.
The waiting is indeed painful... I can't wait until March! Good luck!

thanks for all the useful info @BeachySpeechy and @jmk. i intend to live on campus as well so it sounds like it'll take an obscene amount of money to do this at UoP. ~140k for about 2 years. i think all the blood just rushed to my head.
Congrats on having options @plume =) the only other places i applied to were SJSU and Redlands so unless i get accepted to those APs and have choices, I will definitely be enrolling at UoP's 24mo term. I guess i might see you there!

Thank you, this is really helpful! The cost alone makes me think I can't attend (I am not so sure about working schools...), but there are obviously some factors here that I need to consider!

I have been accepted to Radford University!!!  This is my first acceptance, and I am beyond thrilled!!!  I'm still waiting to hear from many schools, as this would be a huge move for my family, but WOW!!!!  YAY!!!  I get to show my girls that I can achieve my dreams if I try hard enough.

It's kind of a made-up title that they give us - no certification required. I think it's okay because we're not "pathologists." We go through a phonemic awareness training program before starting, but that's it. I feel like it must be like being an SLPA, but maybe with less supervision at times (I'm not sure if that's true...). Our directors are a neurologist and neuropsychologist and I have an SLP supervisor. I work with children and young adults with developmental language and behavioral disorders one-on-one. I also get to decide the treatment plan for one student at all times under lots of supervision. It's really cool because I get to see the medical, psychological, behavioral, and language pieces in play with the help of so many experts. I feel like I'm in school at all times - my old coworker who is in SLP school at MGH actually said that grad school is way less stressful than this job, ha ha. I don't think this job exists anywhere else for untrained people like me and I am grateful I found it! I don't think I could have gotten into school without it!

plume reacted to kayyyyy_ in GRAD SCHOOL JOURNEY!
My grad school journey started when I graduated with a BA in 2013. I didn't know if I wanted to apply to grad school right away or wait a year and just "live my life". I was still young and wanted to experience life. I ended up applying for an Honors English study abroad opportunity. I left it up to fate to determine if I apply to grad school OR go study abroad. I ended up getting accepted into the study abroad program. There were over 300 apps and I was chosen. Couldn't believe it and obviously, I took it as a sign.
I studied abroad for 6 months and applied for my SLPA license (along with 4 of my friends). Again, didn't know if I was even meant to be in the field of SLP or not. I ended up being the only one accepted out of my group of friends, again... another sign.
I've been working as a SLPA in CA for the past 3 years. I applied to grad school my first year to a couple programs that were SO unobtainable. I reached out to an academic advisor and she said with my grades, I'll never get into a speech grad program. What my academic advisors didn't know what my background and why I received poor grades. In a semester of undergrad, I had a family emergency. I basically put my family first and stopped attending classes. I just went for tests and some how skated by with getting C+ (4 of them). That semester killed me.. dropped my overall down to a 3.3. This last year, I retook those 4 classes and received an A in all of them. Depending how you count it, I either have a 4.0 in all CSD course, or a 3.6 if you average those GPAs out. Regardless, I totally pushed through it. Being a SLPA really changed my life. I love my job and I am truly passionate about this field. The struggles I went through just made me a stronger person. It's a shame grad schools don't look at the overall applicant or story behind them (in some instances) but I found schools that have this year. I've been waitlisted and accepted! I am so excited to start my journey.
Moral of the story.. everything happens for a reason. If I would've gone to grad school out of my undergrad, I wouldn't have met my soon to be husband and I wouldn't be the woman I am today. I can say, I will truly appreciate grad school more since all this has happened to me!

It really, really does. You still have more schools to hear from than I (and probably most of us) have total applications out, so try to stay as positive as you can. My friend who is in SLP school now always told me I just needed ONE acceptance. ONE. And you've got a lot of applications still out. Good luck, and keep us updated!

plume got a reaction from SpeechLaedy in What are my chances???
I have been accepted to 3 schools so far as an out-of-field applicant with no CSD prerequisites and a cumulative GPA of 3.3. However, it is hard to compare applicants because the numbers aren't the only story of our applications (for example, I am a career changer, have obtained solid experience in the field over the last 2 years, and had a medical issue that affected my GPA). It will be impossible to tell you what your chances are but hopefully we can offer some advice!
Your GPA is solid. Your experience is solid. The general advice is to aim for at least a 300 on the GRE, although higher is better. I only received a 149 on the quant section, but I think my verbal score helped me.
How flexible are you on location? The midwest and south are generally less competitive. Your stats look worthy of more competitive programs, though!
All in all, YES, you are absolutely competitive. Just apply to 5-10 schools (some do more, some do less) of varying levels of competitiveness. Keep in mind that "competitiveness" ranges because some schools accept a tighter range of average stats while others accept a wider range; also pay attention to % acceptance rates. It's hard to say, too, because my friend was accepted to one of the top programs in the country and did not get into some of the less competitive programs he applied to. It's hard to know what committees are looking for, but you can be smart about your application and where you apply. YOUR LETTERS OF REC AND PERSONAL STATEMENT MATTER so make sure to spend time on your essays.
I know the application process is SO stressful, including the anticipation of applying. It's good you are planning early. I would start looking at where you might want to apply and studying for the GRE.
    Best of luck!

I know some schools send acceptances/rejections in waves, but I wish they did it all at once.... when I hear someone else was accepted somewhere I assume I am rejected but I wish they would tell us on the same day! I understand that this is a big process for admissions offices as well but I had to vent.... hmph.

It's getting close to when most of us are to hear of our fate for next year.  Good luck if you haven't heard from anyone yet, and keep trying if it doesn't work out for you this year.  And remember, if you don't get in to your #1 school, but did get in to your 2nd (or 3rd) choice, don't get discouraged because you still get to study what you want.

    Good luck!
