  1. Just to confirm, a prospective student at SIPA does not need to complete intro to micro/macro before enrolling?
  2. Thanks! I did watch this video, and have done a lot of research on the two. At the end of the day, I think it's going to come down to the location.
  3. I have no background in finance and see these programs as strong stepping stones to breaking in to the field. I am fortunate in that I won't have to take out loans for these schools. MBA/Phd might be down the line if I believe that's the next step for me.
  4. Seeking a career in international finance. Both schools offer concentrations and specializations in finance.
  5. Anyone care to chime in on the open houses?
  6. The debate is not new but I believe a refresher is due. From someone that's been to either school, what are the pros/cons? I'm seeking a career in finance (not necessarily banking). From what I've heard, SAIS has the stronger program but Columbia is in NYC. Does location matter? I was not able to attend the open houses as I'm out of the country.
  7. Exactly my position right now.
  8. Anyone else debating between SIPA and SAIS? Could someone knowledgable about both pitch in about which would be better suited for someone considering a career in consulting and international finance?
  9. Congrats to everyone who got in! It's a great program1
  10. Anyone else debating between SIPA and SAIS? Could someone knowledgable about both pitch in about which would be better suited for someone considering a career in consulting and international finance?
  11. Does anyone else have more info on second year funding? I know that if you received funding you're guaranteed that amount for the next year, however if you didn't, what are the chances of getting any and is it based on merit or need?
  12. Is the employment account for SIPA 2016 a fluke or a sign of a trend? Lot of people getting into Deloitte, McKinsey, etc. This is making me reconsider SAIS.
  13. What tech do you recommend to get for taking notes in class? I'll be attending a school like SAIS or SIPA and would like to know if most people have regular clamshell laptops or is there a trend towards 2in1s (taking notes on tablets)?
  14. Funding aside, which one would be better for someone looking to enter the IR Finance world, investment banking or management consulting? I've looked at the employment reports and both seem appealing. What do you guys think?
  15. In general, I know people can ask for more funding. However, if you haven't received any at all, can you still email to try to get more? (I'm sure a lot of people who receive funding turn it down)
  16. Got in, no funding:( but still!!!
  17. I got waitlisted. Does GWU put everyone who doesn't get an offer on the waitlist?
  18. How's it looking? I got deferred. Received the e-mail yesterday.
  19. I attended a satellite school for my freshman year and had a certain GPA. I then attended the main campus the following 2 years and graduated. However, on the transcript, it only lists my GPA for the last 2 years and not my freshman year. With my freshman year GPA, my cum. is higher. How do I let the ad coms know this?
  20. I have an interview for SAIS coming up soon. Can anyone who has been through an interview for IR programs speak about what to expect? It's a Skype interview and I intend to prepare by going through my resume, the program, the concentrations, my future goals, etc. (the basics). Is there anything else I should do or any typical questions I should expect?
  21. I know schools want to see relevant work experience. However, I majored in a science and one of my experiences was in a lab. I worked in this lab for almost 2 years and gained valuable analytical skills. Do you think putting lab work in a resume for international affairs programs will be appropriate?
  22. I'm not sure which programs you are regarding, but most of the top schools list salary and positions as well. To me, that is the ultimate metric.
  23. Hope this application cycle is off to a good start for everyone, I have been in touch with recommenders and they asked me what skills I would like them to highlight. Besides work ethic, leadership, adaptability and analytical ability, are there skills that International Affairs programs like to see?
