Its hit or miss with OttawaU. Last week when I called, the lady I spoke to was super helpful and spent a few minutes with me going over my documents/applications. She updated a couple items and I was on my way. Today, the lady I spoke to gave me the usual "very busy - lots of documents to process - just wait" speech. As I previously mentioned, according to last year's thread, we could start seeing admission's offer next week sometime.

Still waiting for them to process my research description pdf for the MPA. Emailed it to them last friday, and still nothing! Plus, they still haven't gotten around to processing my transcripts. This could be a lonnnnnnnnnng wait!

I should clarify that I wasn't being critical of your preference towards NPSIA, but merely questioning how you were able to categorize/differentiate the two schools in your original statement. I suppose these are the nuances of each respective program that neither of the schools openly promote. As someone mentioned earlier, to each their own!

Be that as it may, I'm still curious as to how the original poster came to this conclusion? Is there empirical evidence to suggest this, or in the very least anecdotal evidence?

NPSIA (Intelligence, Security Defence, Conflict Analysis) GSPIA (Intl affairs, Public Policy, Development)

My NPSIA status is still showing "preliminary review required" My GSPIA status shows incomplete as they have not yet processed all of my documents. The same goes for my UOttawa MPA application. As soon as they process my "research description" document for the MPA, I will call graduate studies and tell em to "mate" my file. The reason being, the same CV and LORs can be used for both applications.

I wouldn't worry too much about GPA. The range in GPAs for those admitted to these programs tends to vary to some extent. I know that by reading previous threads, there are applicants who were admitted to programs without having met the minimum GPA. Other factors, such as LOI and references come into play as well.

UOttawa doesn't waste any time! I like it Hopefully, they can finalize all my documents and start the assessment process.

This. I have heard good things about the BSIA, but from a personal standpoint I don't think I would move out to Waterloo while there were comparable programs in bigger hubs of International Affairs.

I am 34, and applying to a couple MA programs and one MPA. I'm what you would call a "late bloomer". I began a degree in my early twenties, and dropped out soon afterwards. At that point, I clearly did not have the mindset or commitment to undertake a degree. Fast forward to today and here I am finishing my degree and waiting on responses to my applications.

Does that mean they have so far received a lower than expected number of applications?

Wow! I thought Feb 24th was the first offer..My anxiety levels just went up a little This means that by the end of next week or beginning week of 13th, admissions may start going out. The 11th fell on a Thursday last year, this year its on a Saturday. I doubt admission offer get sent out on weekends. So they will speed up or delay the first offer of admissions by a couple days.

I mentioned two specific professors and tied their research interests/speciality fields into my own research goals. This is just my opinion so take it for what you will, but I am of the belief that as long your LOI sounds cogent and doesn't have a ton of glaring mistakes, it should be fine. Obviously no mistakes is better than having any at all. If a selection committee disqualifies your application because you forgot to dot a T or dot an I, then perhaps thats not such a desirable learning environment.

I think there is an important caveat, which imho is applicable to any institution: school is what you make of it. That being said, my fingers and toes are crossed for some good news in the coming weeks/months. Good luck to my fellow applicants!

I am also leaning towards GSPIA for a couple of different reasons. 1) For the simple reason that I don't have the intro economics grade thats required for admission. I am really reluctant to spend $2000 for an online course through Athabasca this summer, from which I am not necessarily guaranteed the necessary grade. 2) As PoliticalNerd2017 has pointed out, I have also heard that NPSIA's product is not what it once was (this is anecdotal evidence from individuals I have spoken to who have either studied at Carleton and have known people in NPSIA or have attended NPSIA themselves). Lastly, as a french speaker, I am really drawn by the fact the University of Ottawa is fully bilingual.

Transcripts were automatically requested from my current university via my OUAC application.

have you checked previous year's thread on grad cafe for those programs and schools? Have you called the schools and asked?
