  1. No, don't call, guys!! Don't do it!
  2. The whole forum was down!
  3. I agree with you, @Wyatt's Terps... But the thing is: if it weren't for GC, we'd have absolutely no clue of when the answers were supposed to come in... And the few timelines I received while applying were much earlier than the actual answers... So my guess is: if they gave actual, accurate timeframes, even very large, they'd have less panicky emails and phone calls asking for answers... Of course us GC-ers should be much more patient and not contact offices and DGS's. But I'm sure all the other applicants who aren't on this forum are asking because they gave either no indications or unrealistic ones... Do you see what I mean?
  4. Exactly. Plus, I mean, shouldn't they just announce some kind of time frame when you know the earliest and the latest times for each decision? Shouldn't they just have some kind of mailing list after classifying all the applicants? I don't know... I'm complaining a little because the wait is so stressful and distracting, but I guess they have their reasons... But for instance, UCLA's "don't expect anything before March or April" when you see on GC that people have already received their acceptances and therefore you perfectly know it means you've been rejected is just not coooool.
  5. Hahahahahahahaahahhhahahahahahah @positivitize "you cray".
  6. Hahahaha it's a struggle!!
  7. This has to be one of the most useful posts recently! (No offense to the others, but there's nothing more useful to an anxious applicant than actual timelines coming from a legit source!) I know I'm waiting for Comp Lit, but I'm guessing my results will, as per us', fall a little after these indications. Thanks! ... But yeah we wanna know the embarrassing story.
  8. I think it's great to go abroad, @CaffeineCardigan. It'll look really good on your CV, and you'll have the opportunity to be much more mobile later on, I believe!
  9. Ugh--not very promising for now! I tried asking around if assisting a prof with their research is something people do here, and it doesn't seem to be the case. *venting on the wrong thread* Congrats on two acceptances, @CaffeineCardigan! Are they good fits even if they're safety fits?
  10. Aaaarrrrrhhh. But does it really apply to all programs? That's the question...
  11. @orphic_mel528 Yes I'm sure if she was friendly with you, the correct answer is: "I can't tell you that you're in"
  12. Yes I got that part! But are you in or not, that's what we wanna knoooooow! Oh boy, @Caien how is it on the other side?
  13. So which one is it??? hahahaha
  14. Hey @LouisePlease, you're definitely entitled to a drink by my standards--since it's past 10pm here, it's long overdue. I'm sorry you feel like all of that work and effort were to no avail. I'm sure there's a good reason this is happening to you and us "undesirables", we just don't know what it is yet. #lowlevelpsychology
  15. Oh my, seems like everybody is receiving an acceptance in the end
  16. Hear, hear @anxiousgrad
  17. Thanks for the info
  18. Sure, but since Chloechriss has been admitted for a funded MA, I thought I'd ask specifics
  19. Waaaaaah! May I ask "why" tuition has been waived? Do they do that for most of their students, or was it specific to your profile? Congratulations!!! "Sweet home Alabama" is the most appropriate song for you to listen, right now!
  20. Interesting feeling @mereandtonks!! I get what you mean! It's like we feel like we don't exist before someone actually shows interest and therefore validates what we've come up with! Well I should say "you", since I'm not being validated just yet Even if it's only one school, it's a great school. Ah, to live in California...
  21. So many congratulatory hugs sent your way
  22. Yes, I was probably thinking of a foreign friend of mine but totally forgot she has both Canadian and Irish citizenship. Which is why she has it slightly easier than other foreigners. But the CAF definitely is for everyone, it's for people's housing regardless of their nationality.
  23. True The goal is to really get closer to anglophone literature because that's what my core wants right now and where my focus is, but I'll see what I do if things still don't work out for me. I don't understand les fiches de paie either, especially not the congés and soldes and stuff they add or take out of the brut amount ahaha
  24. The advantage there is in France is that you have social aids (CAF = the government gives you money every month for your apartment; la bourse = money from the government calculated on your revenues--not sure if that applies to foreign people but I think so; otherwise there are other options but you have to dig). Also I forgot to correct the info about the financial contribution in France, for my school it's 500€ something and it's for both semesters and includes health insurance.
  25. I have to be honest, I haven't checked out French schools for Comp Lit and the WGS field. Plus, the only time I asked for help from a prof. who's studied at UCLA and who is the only one to specialize in WGS, she was very cold, almost rude. So my reasons for not considering a French (rather, Parisian) masters is 1. a lot of the profs. are full of themselves and I'm afraid to be with another one of them 2. I want to have the American diploma for multiple reasons (polyvalence, reinforce my English skills, etc.) 3. a doctorate in France seems to be quite the nightmare.
