How do we know if the school has an interview portion? Is it systematically stated on their website?

Neither did I. Maybe they send that to people who have opened their application early on? -

I don't think any reaction is stupid, but I'm new here So whatever the reason, it doesn't mean it's an "early consideration", right? -
Short Writing Sample?
Yanaka replied to JessicaLange's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
You could have emailed or called them before! I really think nobody should feel weird about asking any question to the Graduate/Admissions Offices. That's what they are "for" (sorry for speaking of them like this). Some are extra kind and will give you their cellphone number (yes), others will be cold and brief. But they help and answer whatever questions you have. Call in, email in. Better safe than sorry is the most accurate expression there is for grad applications! -

The Final Coundown
Yanaka replied to Dr. Old Bill's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Nope I am not, but in my Journalism & Media Studies last year, we studied graphic novels. I'm in France right not so I don't think you will know her, but it's Catherine Meurisse's "La Légèreté" (The Lightness), a book she published after the Charlie Hebdo attacks (she worked there). What about you?- 34 replies

I'm also into Feminist and Queer Studies, and I have to say that i hadn't found any potential advisors at Yale, for instance... So yes I'd say your post is rather confusing! -
Masters Programs: Pros and Cons

@kaiphi Would you mind sharing any info you might have? -
Hey guys! I'm applying to UCLA and did not know what to do with this fellowship. I didn't apply to it because I guessed French wasn't the right language for it. Care to tell me if it was a terrible mistake? And congratulations! (Although this is from ages ago, it's still awesome)

SOP mistakes: what to avoid

Thanks @day_manderly! My CV should be 2 to 3 pages long, I've really kept what only seemed relevant... Hope it's fine -

Thanks a lot. Is there a topic somewhere about CVs, too? Because I didn't find any with the "search" tool. As an undergrad (and French, on top of it), I'm having a hard time deciding whether I should use essay topics I worked on. I'm worried leaving my CV empty on that matter will harm me... -
I am applying to Comparative Literature programs, and it is advised that we mention professors. One of my friends, who is applying to Archaeology, is doing so as well. She has also told me to include a few courses, to show how much the school fits my project, and that I bothered doing some research.

I must add now that I have also removed off-campus involvements to use them in my Personal History/Background. I think my SoP is more efficient as revolving entirely around academic stuff.

SOP mistakes: what to avoid
Yanaka replied to Medievalmaniac's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
Sorry for re-posting. Does anybody know if I can use an image in my SOP? An illustration (a painting, to be more specific) right at the beginning, as to "set the mood". Thanks! -
Hey! I'm also applying to UCLA. Your SoP should not be the "autobiographical" part of your application. It should only be academic, unless your off-campus experiences are relevant to you as a future grad student. UCLA's personal history statement is there to focus on yourself (although always related to your project and interests). Well I'm no expert, not at all, but that's the info I have gathered.

This topic is awesome. Too bad I thought to read just a few days before my first deadline, though! -
I found the actual GRE much more difficult than all the Magoosh test prep I had done. However, I do not understand why you would want to boost your scores. They're already perfect...
