Looks like there are only the two of us weirdos Yes well the only "official unofficial rejection that I'd rather think is a waitlist and someone forgot to notify my and change my status" would be from UCLA. They've sent out a lot of acceptances for Comp Lit and they didn't seem to be particularly late. I know that no news is better than bad news, but I can't help half-think that it's a rejection.

I can relate to that. I get competitive and envious rather rapidly usually, and I'm glad that my irl friend who's also doing applications is neither applying to the same schools or the same program. Well she is applying to UCLA, too, but since she's from a completely different department it's fine (Art History). The thing to keep in mind is that our applications and vibes are all very different, and that there is no true competition unless we have a perfect academia twin who's done exactly the same stuff we did, with exactly the same results and who writes with exactly the same style and logic. I know you know all of this already and that you're probably more envious of her actually going to a PhD program. But honestly, if you don't get in anywhere, it's probably because you haven't found your perfect match yet. So be glad you're not getting into a school that's recruited you despite your not fitting there perfectly. And, oh my, you're gonna be SO good when you find that school. Probably better than your friend will this year, tbh. Kidding! (Or am I?)

@KTF87 initiated the idea of an imaginary waitlist, on which all of us lost in the dark are hoping that not knowing does not imply rejection. Rather, that it is a 1% chance of being on some sort of secret waitlist about which none of us have been told. How many of you are in the same delusional darkness, and are still nurturing hope?

I did some of that too but for all programs LOL I'm an old, mean lady. But I did only a few.

I'd say that the beauty of your situation is that you can go wherever you want! I may be an idealist, but that's what I'm trying to think about my situation that is somewhat similar to yours. Sure, I could move close to my Dad or my Brother and resent being that close to them or, if it all comes to me not having any offer anywhere (including job/internship offers), why wouldn't I move to California and figure it out in paradise? 8)

Why not take a year "off" and work and then apply again next year?

Yo guys, I went climbing today with a friend of mine and I embrace the soreness! It felt so good. I have no technique, all of my muscles are already in pain, but climbing walls, letting yourself fall down and climbing back up was the best metaphorical workout I've done in ages.
