  1. @anxiousgrad, just curious, but was your MA at Wake Forest?
  2. @Diagon, I hope so! I taught years ago, and the first semester was horrible. The second wasn't. I've never taken the course I'd be teaching, so I'm super nervous about the learning curve. College freshman are almost as unhygienic as elementary students, so there's that
  3. Hi friends, Just curious, but what is the teaching load required for funding at your school? Obv. this varies from package to package, and if you don't want to share which school you go do, that's super cool. Where I'm coming from: I was offered a package where I would teach my own class right of the bat this upcoming fall, and if I had testicles, they'd have climbed up between my lungs for comfort. Is this normal? Not my imaginary testicles thing, but conducting your own class first thing?
  4. I'm on the waitlist at UTK and my fellowship fell through at Temple, so I'm on a waitlist for funding there. Please, someone throw me a bone and decline offers from either school. I don't care which. Look, I know it's sad, but if you decline and get me into either program, I'll send a card to your parents and/or guardian(s) telling them how wonderful you are due to their fine parenting. I'll also high-five you at every conference we attend together. I guarantee I look super cool and others will think more highly of you to be seen in my company. Till then, it's margarita time.
  5. I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere in this 65 page deep thread, but: PSA: If you've accepted, tell every school you haven't been denied at about your decision! It helps us poor sods in funding/waitlist purgatory.
  6. Whoa, whoa. GF needs to take some humility vitamins. I feel you, though. My fiancee is in his dream program at an Ivy League school, and this is my second round of applications. I can't help but be a bit jealous of him -- he gets to live his dream and do good work, and here I am, waiting. Still, there's no difference between you and your gf. She could be you right now. Anyway, I hope you hear back positively from Toronto. And if you don't, I hope you don't feel like it's the end of the world. It's so difficult not to take these rejections to heart.
  7. Thank you so much, all of you, for clarifying what's going on with UMD an UNC. I, like many of you, haven't heard back from either of them. It's good to know that I'll be put out of my misery in knowing yea or nay soon. Applying is such a lonely thing, and it makes me feel a little less depressed knowing there are you intelligent, sexy people going through the same shit I am.
