Hi Sarah, Sorry! I've been quite inactive on this forum. I am enrolled in a class with a professor in the admissions committee that says the admit people who are already doing the work but need the degree. As long as you demonstrate you are critical, have been doing similar work, etc. you should be fine.

I'm surprised that this forum has become relatively inactive for Canadian MSW programs! I was actually logging on to see how future peers/colleagues were doing with their applications, and because one of my professors on UofT is part of the admissions committee and gave me the inside scoop on what they look for. Ah well.

http://tcard.utoronto.ca/ for how to register for a t-card, and there is also a link on the side that explains how to set up a UTorID. Once you have your UTorID you will use that to log into your email at www.mail.utoronto.ca -- your email will automatically be your full name: firstname.lastname@mail.utoronto.ca I think you can create your UTorID now, but sometimes there are weird dates for when you can get your T-Card (last year some people had to wait till July, I already have a t-card because I did my undergrad there, but I think I could only get it some time in the summer months as well). Here is the contact info for the T-Card office: Downtown Toronto (St. George) Campus Koffler Student Service Centre214 College Street, First floor 416-946-8047 tcard.office@utoronto.ca Monday…………. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday………… 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Wednesday……. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday……….. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday…………… 9:00 am to 5:00 pm -

Got an email from Laurier at 12:04pm that I was accepted into the 2 year program. My last name starts with "C", but will be declining it to accept UofT's 2 year. -

To answer your question of what I bring to the table that is unique: 2 years working on a First Nations reserve that is remote, fly-in only, is under a boil water advisory, recovering from a state of emergency over drug/alcohol abuse, and has high rates of arson, FASD, and other mental differences. Contributing to my acceptance would be: my knowledge and experience with systemic discrimination, working with indigenous groups internationally, my grades (4.0), my research mark (84%), and my community involvement outside of work (coach hockey, baseball, and track on the reserve; run girls' group on the reserve; and fundraise for community initiatives on the reserve). Personally, I also think that my SOP was very different and out of the box. PM me if you'd like to know what I mean, I do not mind sharing it on a one-to-one basis. -

@lindaMSW Please don't feel discouraged that you did not get on the wait list and were rejected in February. I am sure that there are many people who were rejected in February. The thing about this forum is that we're maybe ~50 out of a possible 800 or so who apply to the program. If they rejected you from the 2 year MSW in February, you must not have met some minimum criteria and you should inquire as to what that may have been to improve your chances for next time. I think it is really important to look at what UofT's program is looking for. Look at their mandate for the MSW program and see if you can get experience in line with that. Try to upgrade courses because they do heavily weigh research experience/grades, but do not forget they also equally care as much about your experience and how you articulate it (I have minimal research experience but had high grades in my research class, and had a ton of experience that were out of the box). Put yourself in a position where UofT (or any grad school you are trying to get into) would be a FOOL to turn you down. Hit every mark they're looking for and excel in it. And make sure they are aware of how lucky they would be to have you and your experience. It's not what they can do for you or what you hope to gain from them -- because they know they are a top tier school -- it's about what you can bring to them. Whether that is your experience, grades, lived realities, USE IT in your SOP. Make your SOP as true to you as you can, and get it proof read. I had a friend in law school read over my SOP and ripped it to shreds, but it forced me to be intentional and think deeply about not only why this is important to me but why I am important for them. The finished product brought my professor to tears and she said it was the most heartfelt SOP she had read -- not for sympathy reasons, but for the risks I've taken and experiences I had that makes me an ideal candidate for them. For anyone struggling with the decision that UofT made, think of it as a second chance to take some risks and become a candidate they cannot turn down. -

Waterloo, York, and Lakehead offer one year BSW. I think there might be a couple more but I forget -

Not so! Scroll page a page or two, someone was accepted without their ACORN or ROSI saying so. Side note: both my ACORN and ROSI say I am accepted. Just waiting on the letter now. -

Thank you (and wishingonuoft) for providing some really helpful insight!!! I was debating the use of a car or not, so that answer was particularly helpful. I'm currently working in a school and absolutely adore it, so I hope that I get placements within one of the boards. You guys are so motivating!! I'm so appreciative. -

That's really helpful to know, thank you so much!! I am curious about the geographic locations of placements: are most of them located in downtown Toronto? I'm actually hoping to do a placement in a school board or government office setting! -

Hey! I'm not sure if you can answer this since it would have been two years ago for you, but how long did they give you to accept your offer into the two year program?
