  1. Lol!!! I did the same "research" and came up with a similar week to expect results (March 6-10) but with the later admission for advanced standing at UofT I am not too sure what to think. Hopefully it still happens that week, it would be an absolute D-R-E-A-M. Both my references whom work at UofT as program directors/professors say I am a shoe-in and have my confidence level skyrocketing, but I need to see it to believe it.. AHHH the uncertainty and anxiety and self-inflicted social pressure is getting to me
  2. Hi c.dizzle there is a new Canadian MSW thread -- some people have already been accepted.
  3. Based on the previous years, THAT MEANS YOU'RE IN!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Would you be able to expand on what you did not enjoy about being in a hospital setting? I feel like I know in my heart that a hospital setting is not for me, but I also feel this self-inflicting pressure to have a placement in a hospital setting. You can PM me if you think it would de-rail the conversation too far!
  5. Thoughts: If they have to wait till mid-March, how long will 2 years have to wait
  6. You know its admission season when... - You call home at lunch to ask your father who has a cold if he can go check the mail... again - When your partner is equally as stressed because of you and their stress stresses you out even more
  7. I misread a question for my written statement. Spent two months answering the misread question, received very positive feedback from two professors that were also my references. Two days before submissions closed, I was combing through the application instructions and caught that I misread. I had already submitted my written statement to my references, which they used to write their reference. Nothing I could do there. Just answered the question properly, submitted, and still waiting to hear back from the school. Face palming since December 15th.
  8. Not sure if this was asked: is there a place to view your application status for WLU? I can't locate anything on LORIS
  9. I am truly sorry lindaMSW, this must be a very frustrating situation and you are definitely entitled to your rants. I feel your anger as well, but as we came to understand in the previous thread: the individual with hideous moral standards and responsibility is a liar and is probably exaggerating and did not get into all those universities. Please do not let that be part of the reason your confidence is shot. You are a valuable individual, and reading through previous year's, there are people who have had to try up to four times to get in. Take some time and process this, then maybe call the faculty and ask how you can improve for next year and work towards that. Sending you positivity and love through this tough situation.
  10. I really enjoyed reading this, and believe you made yourself stand out. However, I feel like your last sentence sells yourself short because it is a bit generic. That's my only critique in an otherwise well written statement! Great job.
  11. Congratulations!!!
  12. I wasn't aware that they had one!! Thank you for mentioning it, as I have been trying to think of alternatives if not admitted to an MSW. Do you know how long it takes to complete as a post-graduate?
  13. Hi Roxanne. I also applied for next year and hoping to get in to UofT's two year program, as well as WLU's two year program!
  14. Hope this applied to the moderator that took that encouraged the conversation as well. Anyways, to stay on topic, MSWs are cool.
  15. I think that since the thread name says that it is a waiting game on admissions, it implies that it is for applicants who are waiting to be admitted to programs for 2017. I also believe phd2msw was not saying that YEWANG should not post here, but was saying that he needs to re-evaluate his intentions. Evidence of YEWANG's negativity at times is exemplified by his -54 down votes since December 2016. Yet, we continue to post because this is a forum where we can find sources of support with others who are applying and waiting to hear back on admissions from Canadian universities.
  16. Also, I down voted because of a comment made by YEWANG in 2015 saying he was 24 and did not get into the program, so how could he have graduated at 23 (I read through the past two years forums because I'm very anxious about school). I was not going to out him, but since he found it necessary to have an issue with the down vote.. well here we are. I do not understand the point in making up things in a forum where people are trying to *genuinely* see where they stand in relation to others. This forum has a profound impact on the way individuals feel about the chances of admittance, and the comments continually being made by YEWANG compromise the integrity of this entire thread.
  17. Thank you for the positivity, optimism, and logic! I hope we can keep this hopeful attitude up in the forum
  18. 25 in February. Graduated in 2015, worked in the field the past two years, first time applying.
  19. Congratulations!! It's always great to hear back something
  20. Hahah, you're probably right! This is torture
  21. This is super sadistic and evil but I am happy advanced standing will have to wait longer like the two years MUHAHAHHAHAHAHA (unless this means two year won't hear back till even later....then I take it back)
  22. Can totally relate. Hang in there!! 5 weeks to go before admissions for 2 year programs start rolling out!!
  23. Hi KharoSo: In regards to working with/inside of a specific community while being an outsider, I can let you know a bit about my experience. I am a woman of colour as well, and have been working and living in (because it is a fly-in only community) a First Nations reserve. Children are very blunt, and when myself and my colleagues first arrived they were very open about feeling that we were only there for the money and just wanted the experience on our resume. I am sure many adults felt this way as well, but were polite about it. What helped tremendously was getting involved in the community and forming friendships with them outside of my job. We joined their volleyball teams, helped volunteering and fundraising, hosted potlucks. It was also very telling that, when offered another contract to work here despite all the hardships, I chose to come back (boil water advisory, lack of access to nutritious foods, expensive to fly in and out for holidays/breaks, aside from all the social issues in this community). I think what has helped me most working here was being very honest with the community about my intentions and who I am as a person. Not misleading them about my intentions because that will lead to letting them down (e.g. saying you'll come back for a second year but then do not). I've been very open with letting my friends and employers know about my intention to achieve an MSW, but that I hope we continue our strong friendships. The best advice I could give would be to put your heart into the community you work with, do not go in there as just a researcher, but go in as an individual willing to share your time, experiences, and passion with them.
  24. It was space dependent for me, so in the WLU I spoke about one major experience but in the UofT application I spoke about three. A friend said something to me that helped me write about questions like this. He said to make all the answers mutually exclusive but collectively exhaustive. In this way, you won't be trying to develop 2-3 different motivations in the limited space provided. Rather, you'd be speaking to 2-3 experiences that contribute to one over-arching motivation. In this way, the answers become more fully developed. I found it to be true for my own writing, and hopefully might be helpful in yours! Best of luck on the exam!!
