If it's any solace to people looking at IU, I heard from someone there that metaphysics has been deemphasized lately, and O'Connor wasn't super active with grad students lately. (I was going to apply there until I heard this.)
I also screwed up on my SOP, though, not realizing until after I submitted everywhere to actually check the ages of people. Maybe mentioning multiple faculty over 70 at a single school wasn't the best move available.

Is there some unwritten rule about not sharing admission information? I see people posting about admissions with their real names but then others taking anonymity measures.

Thanks for starting the thread. I have been wondering the same thing. 
One thing I've seen mentioned on twitter is that some academics are considering boycotting US conferences. (On this point, I've only seen it mentioned—I do not have specifics.) To me, this move makes sense. But I find it so depressing. 
I've also been wondering if applications to other-than-US programs went up this year. 
Perhaps the scariest/strangest thing will be if (when?) so many philosophers continue to go about their work as if it were business as usual. I hope not. In any case, I'm having a very hard time focusing on the work I've been trying to develop. It feels hollow at the moment. So instead, since the election, I've started to read as much philosophy of race and feminist philosophy as possible. I know its not much, but I'm not sure what else I can do (academically) at the moment.

That's terrible to hear. I almost applied to IU, and he would have been my POI no doubt.

There is a silver lining, I suppose, it could be the case that professors leave in the fall. If this happens you'd have students who just started there--and maybe chose program X for this particular person--and now get stuck at a department they would have (now) rather not picked. We had this happen to several students here at Purdue when we lost Steup to CU Boulder last year. 

What I suspected, or perhaps hoped, was that once you hit a certain level with your scores (what might be called the "acceptable scores range"), focus would shift to the other components of your application. Ian Faircloud said something like a 160+ V and 150+ quantitative probably makes the optics good enough. What I'm actually suspecting now that the app season is underway, though, is that your GRE scores probably, to some degree, color the interpretation of the rest of your application, especially with the applicant pool being as good as it is. With a 169 or 170 in verbal and, let's say, a 160+ in quantitative, they'll probably be more optimistic about the rest of your app. It gives you a way to stand out from the other applicants, which helps when there are often 250-300 people applying.
I could be wrong, and it could be the anxiety of waiting on decisions that makes me think that, but that's what I suspect happens in some cases. People with great GREs will probably be interpreted with rose-tinted glasses compared to those with "acceptable" GREs.

I've been spending a lot of time with people. The time consumption of preparing my writing sample overtook my life enough to where just being around people has been nice. And since the semester is starting and grad schools don't really see my final semester, I'm taking my last real opportunity to take a bunch of classes that just sound fun. (Which is still all of the philosophy courses on offer, but also some zanier stuff like The Devil in Literature.)

I've been spending a lot of time with people. The time consumption of preparing my writing sample overtook my life enough to where just being around people has been nice. And since the semester is starting and grad schools don't really see my final semester, I'm taking my last real opportunity to take a bunch of classes that just sound fun.
