  1. UAMS just emailed. I'm on the waitlist, but they have 1 more spot and more than 1 person ahead of me, so they doubt I'll get it. Pitt said I was high on the waitlist and said that they usually get to where I am on there. So I'm still hopeful! Just eager and anxious as well. They do also have a larger class. I think they said they'd try to take 12 this year at the interview.
  2. @WBGC, totally fair. I also was going the opposite in cost. My husband and I pay about $300 a month less for our two bedroom apartment here than I paid for a room in a place with roommates in California. Luckily our parents all like to travel, but even so we don't see them that often. @Gorays39, did you end up emailing them? I heard from VCU this morning (email for waitlist), but still haven't gotten anything from UAMS. Not sure what etiquette is about emailing on Match Day. Blah.
  3. I moved out of California after my undergrad. As much as I loved growing up there and still enjoy it when I visit, I'm glad I did. It's a great adventure! It is hard to pack up and leave, but you can always go back.
  4. Aw, I'm sorry. Betting mine is on its way...
  5. @HSGC2017, nothing from UAMS yet. One of the women I met while interviewing said she got in!
  6. Hearing you're on a waitlist is not ideal and I won't pretend I'm not wishing I wasn't waitlisted. But plenty of people get in on waitlists. Most people applied to multiple programs, so figure the top chunk of applicants all got multiple offers and will have to turn most of them down. There are full classes made up of people who were wait listed.
  7. Just got a call from Pittsburgh, high on the waitlist!
  8. Virginia was pretty reasonable. The low cost of housing was something the students kept talking about.
  9. While waiting to hear from two programs, here are my current (not completely reasonable) thoughts and feeling: -Maybe programs are being nice and waiting until it's not super early for west coasters. -My dream was actually a premonition and they've decided not to talk to me me ever again. That's ok, I'll use my new found psychic abilities and join the circus. -My phone somehow broke over night in a way that allows me to still go online, use my apps, and get spam emails, but nothing important. -I need a nap.
  10. Nothing yet. Just got waitlisted for VCU.
  11. @adragonisnoslave, that made me laugh! Hopefully today will prove less stressful.
  12. At my old job the schedulers knew that, if they called and woke me up, I would agree to whatever they wanted just to get them off of the phone so I could go back to sleep. This often meant going to work at 6am instead of 4pm with no warning. I was terrified that I would accidentally make a decision if a program called me and I wasn't awake. So I figured the best thing to do would be to get up before any possible phone calls. I'm on the west coast and interviewed with eastern programs. Last nights dreams...ugh. One of my dreams the schools had agreed that I was a poor enough candidate that I should have just assumed I wasn't getting in, and none of them were going to waste time contacting me. Thanks, Subconscious.
  13. @Ultrapeaches, definitely feeling the long wait followed by not being ready! I decided this is what I wanted do 7 years ago. I both can't stand to wait any longer and really don't feel ready for an answer. I made sure we have plenty of cider.
  14. I'll be cleaning the apartment today in hopes of being too busy to worry. Usually I'll set up something on HBO on my phone and go room to room. I really want to just keep talking about plans with my husband. But any time we're facing down a huge life change he wants to just clam up and wait it out.
  15. @GCInTraining, glad they caught it and you're doing alright!
  16. This is stuck in my head as we inch closer to Match Day. I am Gob.
  17. I keep checking my email, then reminding myself that: a.) it isn't time. and b.) the news I want will likely be in a phone call and an email probably won't have the answer I want. Just remember, a week from right now the wait will, one way or another, be over!
  18. That's fair. I applied to one school about 2 hours from my parents, and one about a 20 minute walk from my in-laws. It would have been nice to be close. But the silver lining to getting rejected from both is that I can say I tried, I can pick a program without parents being a huge influence, and no one will feel like I picked one set of parents over the other.
  19. @Ultrapeaches, have you found that knowing where your family wants you to go influences things? I both really want to know what they think and don't! I was laying in bed last night thinking about how we're [now less] than a week away and could feel my heart rate increase.
  20. I bought a shot glass from each school with whom I interviewed. I plan on buying some M&Ms, putting one M&M in the glass for each pro, taking one out for each con, this weekend. (I'm pretty sure I already have my ranking figured out, I just really like M&Ms and shot glasses.)
  21. Gonna channel my accountant husband here and go with a long-term cost benefit analysis. Genetic Counselor salaries range something like $60,000-77,000. Obviously you're first job right out of college will be on the lower end of things. I tend to value things in time, so I look at this as "is my top program worth an extra 6 months of my life compared to the other programs?"
  22. I specifically scheduled meetings this week so that I won't have time to think about it! This is either going to be the slowest or quickest week in history.
  23. @Ultrapeaches, this is awesome! Thank you!
  24. I'm enjoying seeing how people view the schools I interviewed with, too. Now if everyone could just stop picking my top program as their #1 choice, I'd really appreciate it! 10 more days! Hope everyone can relax this weekend, because I know the weekend before Match Day is going to be anything but for me!
  25. Out of curiosity, what is everyone doing on Match Day? My plan: stay home from work to spend the day with my phone, email, and Netflix. Then, regardless of if it's a good or bad day, dinner and drinks with friends.
