  1. Hey question. on their catalog page for the program it says: "The Genetic Counseling Graduate Program does not provide financial aid, however students may contact the Financial Aid office for assistance ". Does that mean U of Arizona will not be offering any scholarships, and students will be only paying out of pocket or loans for the program??
  2. This gives me so much joy! I'm so happy to hear this!
  3. I sent mine May 3rd. Never heard anything. They must have just liked you!
  4. It's been a long time since I posted to this thread, and congrats to those of you who were accepted and are preparing to take the next step in your lives! How exciting! I'm posting because this seems odd to me and really really frustrating: It seems pretty universal we were all told if we didn't get so much as an interview, to contact the program AFTER May 1st to get review on our applications, right? So I did that. I waited til after May 1st, hoping the stress from match day would die down, and since I work in higher ed I know the stress that surrounds finals and end of term week for so many. Anyways, I waited and then contacted shortly there after. Left voicemails or emails. None of them got back to me. So I contacted again last week, and have received contact from 2. But today, this was an email I got, and it's actually really making me upset: "(My name) Due to the large number of requests coupled with the limited availability of faculty this summer, we have a short opportunity to offer feedback on applications. Please call (Program director's name) on [One specific date in june in a 4 hour block], eastern time zone. If you are unable to make this time, unfortunately we are unable to schedule an alternative day/time." I removed my name, the program director's name/contact info and the date obviously, but has anyone else received anything as curt at this? This program was my top choice, and I was planning to apply there again next cycle, but they really make me feel like they can't be bothered if you weren't good enough to get in a first time. It's really discouraging. especially in contrast to how friendly they were last summer and fall, when I was a potential applicant. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar with trying to get feedback on their applications? My coworker applied to PhD programs this cycle, and his programs were more than happy to share review.
  5. Off topic but related: Has one had issues with the NSGC genetic counselor search? I keep trying to use it to find people to shadow and it just sits there, spinning.
  6. Hey everyone quick question and I hope everyone can share their experience on this: How did you get your GC shadowing experience while working full time? Any advice?
  7. To add to make an even better week, I had a chance to buy back my first car last night. Called the kid this morning to make an offer, because hey I just found out I'm not going to grad school for at least another year and so I have the money now, and he sold it literally as I was leaving the voicemail. So I'm not really sure how the last 6-7 days could get any better.
  8. Well, the official utah rejection letters are out now. Andddddd with that, that's a wrap on my applications for the cycle! 0/3. Not even an interview
  9. @Ultrapeaches didn't you make this??
  10. I just called Utah to ask. She says all the interview emails went out this morning. People who didn't one are either rejected or waitlisted for interviews in case someone declines an interview.
  11. Oh yes. It's a big part of my personal statement. In advising, you have a lot of hard conversations, see a lot of crying, and your job mostly is to be an interpreter of policy, knowledge of procedures, and to be there to support them and give them options so they can make the most informed, best decision for themselves. Those elements are also present in genetic counseling. So I'm not sure why it didn't have any weight with admissions, but it sure doesn't look like it.
  12. I am an academic advisor. It appears from my rejections that admissions committees don't really care too much about it as relevant experience. I don't think schools consider it really counseling, even though there ends up being a huge counseling component to it.
  13. According to the results from last year, it looks like everyone was emailed for interviews or rejections.
  14. Thanks @JN212. I'm not surprised yet I'm also somehow crushed. After her comment Wednesday on the phone, I was really hoping that maybe I would be one of those few last phone calls they were going to make. Here's to 40 hours of very false hope. I don't remember--did you apply to Ohio State? Utah should be sending letters Monday. At this point, I don't care what mine says either way and will likely decline an interview there if i even get one.
  15. My ohio state rejection email just came to my work email.
  16. Alright I see an Ohio state rejection in the results from this morning. Anyone in here?
  17. I am so sorry did they send an email or actually call??
  18. Just curious but does anyone know how many interviews programs typically do? I know it's obviously different depending on cohort size, but has anyone heard from some programs how many people they select for interviews?
  19. Sending virtual hugs right now. Definitely understand tears after your first choice rejects you. Here's to hoping you get an AWESOME offer from an even better program!
  20. My Cincinnati rejection letter just came, but when I talked her by phone yesterday though she said they wouldn't be "going out for awhile yet"? I also called Ohio state this morning. She said several of us have. However, she told me there would only be one more wave "they were hoping to invite"? Your post pretty much perfectly summarizes how I feel: hope isn't gone yet.
  21. Can anyone who's applied to Ohio state and been given an interview check their buckeye portal and see what it says? Mine says pending. I want to know if even people who definitely haven't been rejected say the same thing
  22. I may just be bitter at this point in the day, but I feel like that's a money ploy. Turn the tables and ask if any of the courses transfer to the program. That's the only way I would do it.
  23. Wait, I'm confused--like it's been posted in people's student portals? or on the program's website itself?
  24. I just called Cincinnati. She told me all the letters for interviews have gone out. But rejection letters won't be sent for a couple weeks. So everyone else waiting, bad news: Your interview is not coming. She looked me up in the spreadsheet and i've been rejected. That one stings. That's the one i wanted.
  25. YAY! Did you put it in the results tab? Congrats!
