  1. Yeah I agree! But think about it this way, we have waited for months and the wait (at least for Munk) should be over in the next few days! Its really hard to deal with, but we have already been waiting quite a while and just have a little ways to go.
  2. They definitely could! However, its already 2:25pm there so I'm not sure if they are just finalizing who made the first cut and will start sending them out tomorrow? Just seems kind of late in the day but who knows! I wouldn't mind knowing today haha.
  3. I talked to Munk last week and they said MGA acceptance offers will be sent out early/middle of this week. So it could be today, but also up to Wednesday or Thursday.
  4. Thats the dream haha! But, its going to get pretty crazy when all of this becomes official and we have two weeks to determine what to do with our lives.
  5. Same! Also, just a FYI but he did not forward funding offers to the Faculty of Graduate and Post-doctoral affairs as of Friday at closing (I called to ask if it would be possible to get my official letter by Wednesday so I can apply for an award at my current school), but they said that they should have everything by Monday morning and will be able to send an offer letter by Wednesday (also the PhD students in the MPPA program have had all of their offers sent out). Good luck and I hope you get a ton of money!!!
  6. Also, the MPPA program is the oldest public policy program in the country and has quite a few resources.
  7. Canadian Students. Its because TA positions, RA positions, entrance scholarships, merit scholarships, and donor-funded awards can all be combined into the admissions offer. Plus TA positions offer a minimum of 10,000 per year. So if you end up getting a TA position, merit scholarship and entrance scholarship its at least 13,000 a year (counting a 1k merit scholarship, but they can go up to 12k per year) and then you could get a RA position and donor-funded award to top it off. Its pretty unreal.... https://graduate.carleton.ca/financial-assistance/admissions-funding/
  8. I know Carleton's MPPA program has given 36k (according to a post on this forum). Also, when I talked to the Graduate Studies Supervisor at the MPPA program, I believe they said it can go as high as 40 (but my memory is a little fuzzy on this).
  9. I visited Munk, SPPG, and Carleton in November before I submitted applications. It was a bit of a drive from school in New Brunswick, but was definitely worth it. Carleton, especially the river building (which is where the MPPA program is located) is beautiful and overlooks the river. However, the rest of Carleton is a pretty typical university campus and reminds me a lot of UVIC. I would not say that it is as beautiful as U of T and appears more utilitarian. However, they have like 5 tim hortons on campus and have everything you need, I also like the fact that Carleton has a train stop and is pretty accessible by public transit (and you get a transit pass). Carleton also has tunnels that you can walk through between buildings, which would be nice in the winter. However, I definitely think U of T is a nicer campus and has a better location with more amenities. Both schools give you everything you need though!
  10. Congrats on your acceptance to the MPPGA program! I hear it is a well regarded program in terms of prestige! However, I do have a friend currently in it, and she was not quite as thrilled when I talked to her earlier this year when I was deciding where to apply. Apparently there is not a lot of substance in her classes, and she kind of feels as though she has been lost among all of the other students at UBC. Then again, take it with a grain of salt as those are just the experiences of one person, and the program does seem to have name recognition. I am waiting out Munk with you, but hope that we will all get some good news soon Plus funding, because Munk is pretty expensive when you factor the cost of living in Toronto and nearly 22 grand in tuition. Good luck with your other applications as well! You cant go wrong with those schools, and I really hope you get some good news from them
  11. Just on this note... Where are the Munk offers? In 2016 it was March 1st, and in 2015 it was March 6th. So I guess its taking a little longer and we should start seeing activity next week? The GSPIA stuff you all are going through is tough though, especially since they already mentioned that you should hear this week. Best of luck everyone! Also, once the offers start rolling out its going to be pretty crazy, especially as we will have a few weeks to decide what path to take with our future careers..... #calmbeforethestom
  12. Congrats!!! Did you get a funding offer? Or is it still TBD?
  13. So.... we did not get first round offers from Munk today. It looks like they came out on March 1st in 2016, but on the 6th in 2015. I guess we will just have to wait it out and see when they are able to make it through the pile. Has anyone had contact with Munk regarding their timeline this year?
  14. I would say that an MPPA would allow you to work in Gov't departments and touch some global affairs/IR work. It also looks like they have a international and development concentration? These are the following MPPA courses at Carleton which are in the academic calendar: PADM 5225 [0.5 credit] Trade Policy PADM 5229 [0.5 credit] The Health of Populations PADM 5272 [0.5 credit] Policy Seminar (Policy Analysis Concentration) One or more selected policy areas or specialized aspects of policy analysis. The policy field or topic will change each year. PADM 5421 [0.5 credit] Globalizing Public Management PADM 5441 [0.5 credit] Introduction to Policy and Program Evaluation Survey of evaluation in Canada and internationally. PADM 5510 [0.5 credit] Energy Economics Micro- and macroeconomic concepts and techniques applied to such topics as international energy markets, energy production, and energy consumption. PADM 5512 [0.5 credit] International Politics of Sustainable Energy PADM 5617 [0.5 credit] Implementing Sustainable Development in Industrialized Countries PADM 5811 [0.5 credit] The International Policy Framework PADM 5812 [0.5 credit] Governance in Developing Countries PADM 5815 [0.5 credit] Civil Society Organizations and Development PADM 5816 [0.5 credit] Program Evaluation in Developing Countries PADM 5817 [0.5 credit] Health Policy in Developing Countries PADM 5872 [0.5 credit] Policy Seminar (International and Development Concentration) There are a few more as well. Honestly, there is quite a few courses here. It’s not a replacement for NPSIA or GSPIA, however I think that you should have enough to be able to demonstrate knowledge and still apply for similar positions? Personally, I just see the MPPA as more generalist, but also giving the flexibility to tailor it to suit your needs. But if you are sold on pure IR/ Global Affairs, you should probably wait until you hear back from NPSIA ect?
  15. Honestly, I am sooo thankful that I have classes and they fill up at least a portion of my time haha. Aside from that, I am like everyone else. I wish that our likelihood of acceptance was linked to our page refresh rate, that would be nice. Regarding which program, I will accept Munk if I get in with almost 95% certainty and deal with the financial issues caused by high tuition and living in Toronto, but depending on the MPPA programs funding package I may take it. It also depends on what programs my finance gets into at U of T. She got a 20k offer from Carleton in Neuroscience, but also got accepted to U of T for Biomedical Engineering and is waiting on a MPH from the Dalla Lana School @ U of T. Lesson = Life is complicated haha
  16. Thank you! Im really curious to see what kind of funding packages the MPPA program will give, as I know they can go as high as 32k but also can provide around 5k. I will probably get that information next week I am also waiting on the Munk School and their MGA program which should be emailing first round offers in the next few days and the MPP program at U of T which should start sending them out in two weeks. Starting to get really anxious regarding Munk though.
  17. Thats awesome! Congratulations!!!!! Early work pays off haha (I still cant get over how soon the OGS deadline is for Carleton).
  18. My end goal is Intergovernmental Relations, and as such the MPPA program gives a pretty nice blend of courses and its program so that you are not limited to the international or domestic policy fields. I did a lot of research into their course offerings and they are pretty interesting with quite a bit on global issues, and also a lot of different types of policy aka trade policy, health policy ect. I know that it only outright states the Indigenous policy concentration, but from the alumni listed on their pages, it looks like there are a few more of them (policy analysis and innovation, science and technology). The MPPA program is the oldest public policy program in Canada and from what my research and a few of my profs here are saying, its got A LOT of resources because of that and can really link you into the Federal Government quite well and has a very experienced faculty. But I would be surprised if you are able to take a lot of NPSIA stuff through the MPPA program as the programs seem pretty compartmentalized (but would LOVE to know the findings of your calls as I would love to take NPSIA courses if I go to Carleton).
  19. I talked to Dr. Phil Ryan. He is the graduate coordinator/advisor/admissions point person and is a fantastic person from all of the communication I have had with him.
