  1. Well, I made similar rationalizations after being unsuccessful last year but this year, there have been few other revelations. Unless you are aiming for Ivies (then you need stellar grades and stellar everything), I think it's not just the credentials (like GPA, GRE score, etc) that matter. Fit matters a lot. Also, a huge factor is if you are an international student (with international degree)-then you need to be a REALLY good fit and have really good credentials. Having Master's probably help but only go for it if it's funded..the other option (especially if you are an American) is to get few years of research experience as an RA in a good lab somewhere. Another point to keep in mind is that a lot of it is a crapshoot (a term I actually learned in gradcafe lol). I got interviewed from a top school but wasn't even considered for interview from much lower ranked schools (in some of these, I was possibly an even better fit!). Such stories abound in gradcafe. One more thing, if you really think you are a good fit for a lab, then get in touch with the concerned professor as early as possible (that's one advice I am giving myself too, for next year, incase it doesn't work out this year too) and keep in touch with them-exchange ideas, comment on their research, ask insightful questions. All the best!
  2. Have the same question regarding the 'social' area. Last few years' result updates weren't very clarifying either.
  3. All the (confused) Toronto applicants-I also applied to Social Psychology, PhD. I am international student. Haven't heard anything. I have already started crying my eyes out and have a terrible headache. Might I suggest that you guys carry on the conversation here? Plus, to the selected applicants. Could you please msg in this thread, so that we can send a private message about the details?
  4. @th3redrabbit Lol. Yeah, that's my favorite too! @JJtheJetPlane I completely agree. I have immense respect and admiration for people who can deal with rejections like a boss.
  5. I was actually thinking of starting a similar thread after reading these two (when I found this thread). Lol. University Of Toronto OISE School & Clinical Child Psychology, Masters (F15) Rejected via Phone on 27 Feb 2015 O 27 Feb 2015 report spam I am the Leonardo DiCaprio of grad schools. Year after year never getting recognized by white old dudes for my good work. University Of Toronto Philosophy, PhD (F14) Rejected via E-mail on 7 Mar 2014 ♦ A 7 Mar 2014 report spam As a connoisseur of rejection letters, this was a very nice letter.
  6. Hi. I don't know much about the application process of European universities. So, I was wondering, are PhD programs of universities, such as Edinburgh and Sussex, funded?
  7. Okay, from all these conversations that I've read and from the fact that nothing worked out for me this year, I have come to this conclusion: I haven't spent enough time looking at and researching the U.S universities and I think I am still mostly clueless about which are the good (not necessarily famous) schools for social psychology. Being an international student, I had and will probably still have a really hard time figuring this out. When you guys talk about 'top ranked', 'top 5', etc., what is your source? If it really depends on my specific research interest, then it's mostly moral psychology (but it could be extended to behavioral economics-->cooperation, moral decision making, altruism, prosociality and cognitive aspects of moral judgment). I'm also open to suggestions of Canadian or European universities. I obviously know the 'famous and always on the news' ones like Yale, Harvard (places I won't even bother applying to) and NYU. Are any of you aware of any other, 'less obvious' schools?
  8. That you probably have been accepted? I hope you do!
  9. I got the rejection too. I just want to know how many International students who are currently residing outside U.S and don't have a U.S VISA, got in. I hope there are atleast a few. If I have to apply again next year, I would like to know if they are really taking in any International students (with international degrees) at all now. If not, then I would rather focus more time, money and energy on non-U.S universities.
  10. Hi...I know...I hadn't received that mail at all regarding GSAS decision. I directly got the other mail from MA dept welcoming me to the MA program. However, I received the actual (gift wrapped) rejection mail later (after I had written in this forum). Has anyone else applied to social psychology dept of USC? I got the interview call in December n had a crappy Skype interview (bad internet connection) but I haven't heard from them at all. Just want closure, man. I haven't seen anyone's USC acceptance msg...so if any of you are out there, please comment!
  11. Hello everyone! This is my first post. I don't see many international applicants writing here (which is annoying!), so thought of sharing my (rejection) status as an International student. I got the 'admissions to MA in General Psychology' mail from NYU today...I am assuming that implies that I was supposed to receive the 'rejection to PhD program' mail on 15th along with others, which I didn't. So I guess if any of you haven't received the mail, this could be a reason...if you are unlucky...so, my advice would be to get in touch with the admission's dept. If you are lucky, it's possible some good news awaits you. They seem to be announcing the results in the Beauty-pageant-order.
