  1. Thank you so much! That's odd (and frustrating I would imagine) that they didn't offer much information. Regardless, congrats on the waitlist spot! Seattle is seriously the best city ever!
  2. I'd love details if you're willing to share? I still haven't heard anything and with rejections, waitlists, and acceptances on the board idk what to think! When did you hear?
  3. Same! I didn't read the "March 05" part and was seriously confused when I logged on to the portal and didn't see any decision posted.. super weird way to reject applicants..
  4. Seeing these UW rejections go up on the board and bracing myself. Anyone else not heard from them yet?
  5. I don't think my MA program is ranked, but it was fully funded with a teaching fellowship including a living stipend. I used my MA to seriously work my butt off -- develop my research interests and develop myself as a scholar -- before applying for PhD programs. Even though neither my undergrad -- a mid-size, private liberal arts university -- nor my MA institution is "prestigious," l was able to secure a few solid options this year. So yes, I agree with @la_mod, it matters what you do there, not where you go. This all said, I don't know if I ever had a fighting chance at the Ivy Leagues
  6. Officially off the waitlist and accepted at USC! ? The email was unbelievably kind and detailed regarding my research and the admission process. Their funding package is super awesome, too. I’m thrilled to officially have this option!
  7. I'm super happy to see this thread even though I am nowhere near making a decision. I'm really counting on visits to push me one way or another and might be coming back to this thread later to ask for some decision-making advice. Looking forward to seeing where everyone chooses to go and a BIG congrats to everyone for making it to this point in the process!
  8. It’s actually surprising to me how much communication from the programs (or lack thereof) is playing in my decision making process. I have similar worries — I don’t want to end up in a program that doesn’t make grad students a priority or with faculty that isn’t super communicative. I guess I just wanted to add that I’m also having these problems with some of the programs I’ve been admitted to and I am equally concerned. I’m also hoping all this might change after visits? Alternatively, some programs have been great and it’s really making me lean in those directions.
  9. Ahh. Not feeling good about UW at this point. Anyone have any info or want to claim the acceptances?
  10. I emailed USC and asked if they invite waitlisted students to visit day and though I’m not sure it’s something they usually do I got a super positive response. They invited me to come and mentioned that I may well be a regular admit at that point. I do live in LA though and made sure to mention that to indicate that I wouldn’t be needing any funds for the visit. So I’d say it’s a good idea to email and ask!
  11. No, I still haven't heard anything! I'd like to put NYU to bed myself, though it is already sitting in the rejection pile for me.
  12. I didn’t get a rejection yet, but I already have my MA so I doubt that’s the case for me! Maybe they didn’t send them all out at once or are going down the list today..
  13. I’m hoping for some UW news this week as well!! It definitely looks like in the past they have made their funded offers on the 1st and 2nd. I did my undergrad in the PNW so I’d love to get back there ??
  14. Hi! I am on the waitlist at USC and was notified via email the same day they did their acceptances. When I check the portal it still says submitted and nothing else. I can't answer your question about the possibility of an invisible waitlist but when I spoke with who I assume to be the DGS today he mentioned that things have been quite hectic over there. I also happen to know that they are hiring right now and are in the process of job talks so the department is quite busy and I think they just may be a little behind on these sorts of things. Hope this helps!
  15. I just want to jump in here to advocate for the importance of words like "intersectionality," especially in the case of "intersectionality." In fact, without intersectionality, concepts like feminism are not inclusive and actually isolate women of color, the LGBTQ+ community, etc. By making the move from just plain "feminism" to "intersectional feminism," these "certain types of people" are actually included in the conversation and welcomed into academic space rather than kept out. So, in some cases, what some might consider jargon is absolutely important and shouldn't be shrugged off as meaningless.
  16. Though I have nothing to contribute regarding the specific schools mentioned above, I would love a thread on the importance of actual rankings, and perceived rankings, and how much they should play into making decisions because I find myself in a somewhat similar predicament. Perhaps this already exists, but I will echo @JustPoesieAlong in saying that it is a really good question!
  17. Does anyone have any information about how the waitlist works at USC? I'm super curious to know if it's ranked or by field or what! I haven't gotten any of this sort of info from the department so far.. Congrats on Tufts, @punctilious !
  18. Temple changed my portal on the 11th (or maybe earlier, I had stopped checking) and I have yet to hear from anyone in the English department. I got a letter in the mail from the university but that's it! I wonder if I should be reaching out? Or maybe not because I have other programs I am more strongly considering.. Edit: Though I'd be interested in hearing what they had to say to you @a_sort_of_fractious_angel if you're willing to share!
  19. Well now it’s definitely time to let CUNY go. Oh well. UW is the last school I’m waiting on! Fingers crossed, Seattle has my heart forever ?
  20. @KatVW Sorry that was unclear — by “boards” I mean the results page on Grad Cafe.
  21. Yeah, I would call it a rejection once acceptances and waitlists are on the board and days have passed. I am also counting CU Boulder an implied rejection.
