  1. Love all of the skincare stuff! I’m always looking for new routines and products ? About exercise, I joined a coed soccer team and we play once a week and it has worked WONDERS for me. It’s pretty rigorous exercise and definitely got me running again, which I hadn’t done for probably 8 years or so. I’m hoping to find an indoor league wherever I end up for my PhD.
  2. To add to this, anyone planning on getting/adopting a pup when they start grad school? ?
  3. Oh that's way way less bad!! I really wouldn't lose sleep over it. I can't imagine that something like that would be a dealbreaker.
  4. Oh gosh, can you confirm that it has been down since the first? You could call those two programs if they have yet to notify and let them know what happened! Did it just link to your CV or were your SOP/WS attached to that link? I think if it was crucial information/supplementary materials the program would have reached out to you and let you know that your app was incomplete? Don't panic!
  5. Yeah, UMN lists somewhere that they want 164 V, but I was admitted with a 161. BC also tends to take people with top scores according to the results page and I have been accepted there as well. I have stated this on a few threads now but I really don’t think the GRE is as much of a gatekeeping tactic as we think. In other words, I don’t think programs throw out applications purely because of less than stellar GRE scores. But I am, of course, only speaking from personal experience. Just hoping to save someone the GRE score anxieties I suffered before I recieved good news
  6. FF’s post is wildly helpful and spot on but I would take this particular bit of advice with a grain of salt. I have had professors/advisors laugh in my face when I tried to bring up anxieties over GRE quant scores. They wouldn’t even go there because no one cares. Programs care about the GRE minimally in the first place, they REALLY don’t care about the math score. I even called around at a couple institutions and was told point blank that the English programs do not consider the math score. Not even a little bit. Many programs list on their faq or requirements page that they don’t consider the quant section. I only say this because applications are SUCH a process. They take massive amounts of preparation, time, and energy. That time and energy is much better spent on developing strong relationships with faculty/potential letter writers, perusing a research assistantship, coming out of your BA with a strong writing sample, and (if anything) improving your verbal score. Just my two cents!
  7. This is literally me lol. I just did not do the math, I didn't see a point in wasting my time/energy on it. Of course, I freaked myself out over the last month or so thinking my abysmal math score would somehow tank my application but that hasn't been the case I don't have a stellar verbal score either, so I'm not convinced that the GRE does, in fact, determine a successful or unsuccessful app.
  8. All out of upvotes for the day, so congrats fellow BC admit! ??
  9. Thank you, and thank you EVERYONE (I would tag you all but I'm rushing out the door!)!! I was emailed by the DGS at 8:30 am (west coast). She asked for the best time to follow up with a phone call, she mentioned setting up a visit etc. SO THRILLED !! Edit: Congrats on the Maryland waitlist!!!
  10. I was accepted to Boston College this morning!! Total shock!!
  11. I just also want to add how lovely all the positive Minnesota comments are! ? I’m excited to have such a great option!
  12. Thank you for all of this! I’m a Minnesota admit as well so this is really useful
  13. I also hope it's okay if I add to this because my situation is very similar. I was shut out last year while completing my MA and I too feel overwhelmingly grateful and agree that the experience is totally different. I was a wreck last year throughout the whole process so I just feel so relieved and lucky and grateful to have an acceptance -- especially an early acceptance. But I also wanted to chime in here to say just that -- it is still so early. There are still so many programs that have yet to make decisions (and won't for at least a few weeks or so) so chin up everyone! YES to all of this. I too am anxious about the rest of the decisions but it's so nice to know that my future isn't so uncertain anymore and I don't have to worry about reapplying to my current teaching job (which, I don't hate by any means but I'm ready to be a student again). No matter what else happens, I am getting my P.hD.
  14. I'm waiting on Boston College as well, I'm just hoping that they didn't already notify accepted applicants but the admits just didn't report on Grad Cafe? I don't know, that's worst case scenario, so it's probably (hopefully) not that. Maybe they're just running a little late this year! Do we know if they usually call or email or update the website?
  15. I feel like mid February is FOREVER away. That second week is going to be a big one for me, but until then I’m expecting radio silence. It’s going to be a long few weeks.
  16. Yeah I wanted to wait for the DGS to contact me because I just don’t feel comfortable reaching out first for some reason. It’s just a bummer because now I will likely have to wait until Monday. But I can’t complain, I’m just happy it’s an acceptance and anxious/excited to hear more info about the program and funding etc. ? I’ve heard from a few people it can take a couple of days after the portal update so if I don’t hear by Wednesday I’ll probably reach out.
  17. I have a question for anyone who can offer some advice. Though I was accepted via the application portal on Wednesday, I still haven't heard directly from anyone in the English dept at the University of Minnesota. What is the appropriate course of action here -- do I wait to hear from them? Or should I be reaching out?
  18. Congratulations to the Temple acceptance!! This seems so early, I didn't expect for anyone to hear from them until mid-late feb!
  19. According to past years on the results page, Boston College sends out acceptances this week..?
  20. Thank you! Congrats on OSU that's so exciting!!!
  21. Thank you! I am a cross-pollination of American Modernism, Urban Studies, and Women/Gender Studies
  22. THANK YOU guys so so much, I'm absolutely over the moon!! :)))
