I didn't post that, but that is a quote from Augustana's rejection letter. I don't think it's unfair or inappropriate to post it at all, it's part of the reasoning augustana is using to justify their rejection. I don't think they were necessarily trying to blame underserved populations for their rejection.

@Joey0817 Personally, the 3.3/3.4 GPA really isn't that bad. The average GPA of admitted students is only 3.5. What really matters is the grades you received in pre-req classes. If you have anything less than a B in a pre-req, in my experience most programs write you off right away. The other thing I notice is that you're only applying to Canadian schools, which is SO tough because they all only accept ~4-5 students, so with those 4 schools, there are only 16 spots available. If feasible, you may want to look at applying to some US schools next year @TAGC can tell you about their experience with only applying to Canadian schools vs. adding some American ones). Lastly, with your experience and decent GPA (assuming you don't have all low-prereq grades), I would recommend approaching your personal statement in a different way. Applicants can have a fantastic background and experience, but if their personal statement doesn't stand out or wow them, you also won't be selected. I had a poor personal statement last year which I think was part of my problem. Ask mentors/other people to look over your personal statement and give you suggestions. One of my best friends applied to medical school last year and her essay was selected as one of two highlighted in a news article about medical school essays that admissions people loved. I asked her to look over my personal statement (before I even knew her essay was selected for that article!) and she gave me some really good pointers and suggestions and my essay doesn't look ANYTHING like it did last year. If you have great qualifications, your personal statement can be a make-or-break between you and other applicants. Those are just my suggestions, obviously schools might have other things to say. But like others have said, ask for feedback around May.

They are doing calls on a rolling basis, with no definitive timeline as to when they will be done as far as I know.

I only received the "application submitted" email when I paid. For what it's worth, SLC is sending out their invites in waves, and doing it on multiple days -- it says so on their website. They have 112 to send out, so I imagine it will be across a few days. I don't know if they will be consecutive days or not though.

I also think it's interesting that an applicant/program can tell the other they will rank them, but they can't specify exactly where on the list..

Schools actually tend to look favorably on applicants who are re-applying if they have shown improvements to their application. Re-applying and making those improvements shows dedication and that you know this is what you want. If you apply to new schools your second time, they will not know you are a second time applicant.

It sounds like Rutgers might be doing rolling, at least 1 of the 2 submitted their app really early.

I think they are considering this as applicants who are foreign (like currently living in another country) or maybe even 1st generation in the US, have parents who didn't go to college, etc... I can't say that for sure 100%, but that would be my guess.

I don't remember, but I'm sure there were some questions on the app that alluded to if you are diverse or underrepresented.

From what I heard, they only sent out emails to the "underrepresented/diverse" applicants track, and they have a specific interview date. As far as I know, they haven't sent out the other invites.

I would love to be accepted to either school in Houston. The medical field there is so supported and they are on the forefront of so many things. I also agree just from my interactions with Dan that they seem to be on the ball about everything!

That's kind of what I was wondering too haha. I'm not sure if my nerves made me come off as shy or if I was taking it as a more serious job-like interview and was being overly professional? I'm not completely sure but I'm going to try to make sure I am personable in my interviews this year!

When did you submit your app? Since their due date was only 10 days ago I'm wondering if they're doing rolling offers like Ohio did, or if they legitimately have already reviewed all their apps.

Forgot to add this on to my other comment, but your situation of people interviewing and then not getting asked back to interview the following year is more common than we think. I've heard a handful of people voice it already this year, and I remember people saying it on last year's thread as well. The pool of applicants change every year and sometimes we move up and sometimes we move down. Interviews are a large part determining if our personality will fit in their program, and sometimes they decide we won't fit. I'm a little nervous about getting invited back to Augustana because their feedback was that my app was great but at the interviews the "didn't get a feel for my personality"... so who knows.
