  1. I didn't interview last year, but I also emailed and asked and it was a no /:
  2. My stress level just went up about 4x now! I'm worried about my Rutgers app because I kept getting emails saying they were missing materials even after I emailed to double check that they had everything they needed and they confirmed that yes they did have everything.
  3. @HelenMI am a little unsure of the whole big class size thing, but the director of the program in my home state went there and she suggested I should apply because she thought I would be a good fit. This is probably a ways down the road, but in the future as there are more genetic counselors and programs are able to take more students, I figure class sizes for most programs will end up being about that size too.
  4. I also feel fortunate to live 20 minutes from a major airport that is also a main hub for Delta and Sun Country, so there are a large number of flights to choose from when flying anywhere and prices aren't too awful. And I have tons of frequent flyer miles I saved up. Like a crazy ton. Haha.
  5. I think Baylor will have what it needs to be a successful program. There are TONS of genetic counselors in Houston alone (I think I heard 80+ as a number once?), and the students at UThealth already do their lab rotation through Baylor so it seems like they have a pretty solid foundation. My PI is a big fan of Baylor and the research they do down there so I've only heard positive things about it.
  6. Your transportation to the interview is for sure out of pocket. Some places offer to let you stay with a student instead of making you pay for a hotel, but not all programs do that. In my experience, they typically feed you lunch the day of your interview, and a dinner either the night before or the night of your interview if they choose to host a dinner with the current students.
  7. For my personal genome sequencing class we had to read Genome by Matt Ridley and I enjoyed it!
  8. I am also taking email silence as a rejection...
  9. If they are sending invites out in waves or on a rolling basis, I could see them only offering a few interview dates. Augustana has sent out one wave and only offered 3 dates, but their deadline hasn't even passed yet so I'm sure they will be doing at least one more wave with additional dates. If they sent out all the dates to the first people they offered interviews to and everyone wanted later dates, it would be unfair to the people they notified later who would have a much shorter timeframe to figure out travel and time off if only the earlier dates were left available. Emory sent out some invites the first week of January, and they also just sent out some invites this week it looks like. Though it's still a little odd that in your case, one day later they offered more dates. Programs have to work around the schedules of the directors and other staff, which could also be why they only schedule a few dates first and then more later once they make everyone's schedules work.
  10. I've been hoarding frequent flyer miles the past year and a half and have only been using credit cards that have miles as rewards. Aside from short notice, I knew that any flight in March would be expensive due to spring breaks all over. I'm hoping to have enough miles to use so I only have to spend minimal, if any, money on flights. And if I don't get many interviews/don't get accepted, then I'll use my miles for a vacation!
  11. Did you put your Match ID number on the personal statement section of the application? I'm pretty sure I forgot to so she might just be sending it out to the people who forgot.
  12. It was a mass email to applicants asking for their Match ID numbers and full legal names.
  13. UC Irvine giving me a dang heart attack with their email this morning!
  14. Last year they had 6 interview dates, so if they follow the same this year they should theoretically have 3 more dates eventually.
  15. North Carolina. So anyone who applied there, check your emails today!
  16. First rejection email received /: It's a bummer but I'd rather know than not know.
  17. At least changing your personal statement is somewhat of an easier fix than trying to change your GPA or something along those lines that is more difficult to change. From my feedback last year I did notice that they put a lot of weight on your personal statement. I realized I had what I would consider to be a poor personal statement, I pretty much just restated my resume and like you I didn't make personal connections or talk about my experiences and what I got out of them. This year I reached out for help from others to review and help me edit my personal statement so I'm hoping it makes a difference. I wish you luck!
  18. To be honest, I'm surprised you didn't get more interviews/accepted last year since you have a degree related to genetic counseling. If it comes to it this year that you don't get accepted, have you looked at other places internationally? My significant other and I want to move abroad at some point so for kicks last year after I didn't get in I was looking around at GC programs in England and Australia. For Australia I also read that you can practice as a GC with an "equivalent international degree" which yours might qualify for? I'm not sure if you looked into any of that but food for thought. I submitted my Augustana app either last week or the week before so I don't expect to hear anytime soon. Plus, their due date isn't until February and I doubt they would give out all their interviews before their due date even comes around, so I think we still have plenty of time!
  19. Shout out to programs that make you sweat unnecessarily. I submitted my app for a program two weeks ago and they emailed me twice in the past week (including yesterday, the day before the due date) to tell me they were still missing my transcripts and my GRE scores. I sent the GRE scores back in October and my transcripts in December, which was reflected in the application itself. Emailed them back both times telling them the exact dates I sent my stuff to which they didn't respond. Finally responded back today to say they have it.
  20. I submitted my application on December 11th and got the email from her on Jan 8th. @Brifeir depending on when you submitted your app, it probably wouldn't hurt to reach out to her.
  21. Yup I was talking about Indiana! I agree that it's stressful knowing the exact date, but I'd also rather know for sure if I'm rejected so I don't sit around waiting and stressing longer. It would certainly be nice to hear from UNCG sometime this week, but I'm trying not to be too hopeful/eager. Congrats!! I think with the match deadlines programs are moving things up this year. We have to have our rankings in by a certain date, so they have a shorter timeline to get all their interviews in this year. I know quite a few programs moved their application deadlines up, so it make sense that notifications are also earlier. Hopefully this trend follows for many of the other schools!
  22. I commend you for only checking in 3 times a day. I'm dealing by obsessively checking this page and the results page 5-10 times a day lol. I know I will hear from at least one other school in about 2 weeks because they told us the exact date they were going to send out interview invites, but I expect it to be pretty quiet until the end of the month/beginning of February. The wait is so hard! It also stresses me out because plane tickets are soo much more expensive in March (thanks, spring breaks) so I'd like to hear ASAP from schools and be able to (hopefully) interview in February instead.
  23. ^^I didn't see all the responses on page 27 apparently when I posted last night. It also will not let me edit/delete my response... so feel free to ignore!
  24. It does seem like a lot. Especially considering last year it sounded like they were only interviewing around 40. But who knows, maybe our info was wrong last year.
  25. I mostly stuck to the exact word count. Some of mine were over by like ~5-10 words, but I did my best to stick to their exact word count. Some applications I had to type it right in their box so there was no way for me to go over their limit.
