  1. All schools you interview at will notify you of your status on the 24th. If you are waitlisted but people decline, then you could hear on the 25th or 26th if you have been moved up enough to be offered an official position in the program.
  2. The number 1 thing I suggest asking about is tuition and fees, as well as what options are available to help counter the cost (grad assistant positions, TA positions, scholarships, etc). Not all programs are great about advertising that on their websites. If you are out of state, some schools have the option for you to be considered in-state your second year so you get to pay in-state tuition your second year which is nice. Some schools don't have a difference between in-state or out-state tuition. It's all very messy and confusing, so that's something I always like to clarify and get specific details on.
  3. These days I don't think handwritten is considered any "better" than email notes.. we live in such a digital age that I don't think it makes a difference. For those who maybe don't have the greatest handwriting I would say definitely do email haha.
  4. How many people did you interview with? My initial thought was to do all individual notes but I am interviewing with 7 different people at one place and that's a lot of thank you's...
  5. In Minnesota they have what's called the "genetic counselor experience program" where you submit an application saying why you want to shadow a genetic counselor, and then they find one who is willing to let you shadow and give them your contact information. The GC then contacts you and you work out a good time between the two of you to shadow. I did that when I was in college when I had more free time. Nowadays, I work in a medical center doing clinical trials and the PI I work under is a clinical geneticist so I have shadowed him in clinic a few times during my office days when I don't have a patient coming in.
  6. Also some inside information on the U of Minnesota -- this year they had ~170 applicants and selected 40 to interview for 10 slots.
  7. Just discovered this forum yesterday. Heads up to all waiting to hear from Augustana -- all the interview dates are full. I was offered an interview last week (I chose April 3rd) and just checked the reservation page and it said all were full, so if you haven't received an interview offer yet it's probably a rejection /: Congrats to everyone so far on interviews! The waiting game is tough.
