SNH reacted to Generic_Applicant in SSHRC Doctoral 2020-2021
That's once you've made it to the federal level. Their full acceptance rates are different and on their website.e I wonder if the 27% for FRQSC is from the moment you submit your app in Oct but that process isnt multi layered like federal.

I second this!!. All research is meaningful and impactful. In competitions like this, it can solely come down to who reads your application and whether or not it strikes their fancy, and how their day has gone. These competitions reveal nothing about a person's character, success or failure as a researcher. At this level of academia, we all are winners, and are all conducting research to better the lives of others. Whether you have received an award, or not, take the time to congratulate your self for 1) making it to this level of adjudication and 2) being so passionate about a topic to seek funding as a graduate student. Funding or not, give your self a pat on the back, crack open a drink, or do something that makes you happy. Life goes on, and so does research.

it presumably works differently for direct applicants though. And last year people were told on their letter on SSHRC extranet if they were waitlisted. As I say though, I'm just grasping at straws, don't listen to me!

I was waitlisted before for the CGS-M, it came from my department, not SSHRC. Although I don't know if that has changed since then..

Accepted in committee 3 (demography) with a score of 17.74 - good news after hearing that I was waitlisted for OGS!

Last year I received a rejection with super low score. This year I was successful with no publications and one conference added with a similar application. It truly is a lottery! Not sure what committee number (I think 4? - psychology) but was successful with 15.9.

Yah it's a baffling day for sure. Big congrats to my fellow sociologist though, 15.93 is a very high score too! The only explanation I can think of is that I am in my second year phd so perhaps they try to balance out fellowships across the years (most 2/3 year phd students would get higher scores anyway based on having done more research, conferences etc.). So maybe the awards are not based on the score only, but making sure that there is even balance of 1/2/3/4 year winners. God only knows, I really am curious though.

Successful with a score of 17.18 in Committee 3. I'm not eligible for CGS (in my third year) but am beyond happy to learn that I received a fellowship. I was rejected in the two previous application cycles. Good luck everyone!

It really is unethical for departments and/or Graduate Studies Faculties to let students know before SSHRC does, even though this is also the way I heard a few years ago.
So sorry to hear you were not successful. For everyone else, the fact that some departments know results may mean that results will be posted sooner rather than later ... not that there seems to be any rhyme or reason to how these things are communicated nor any consistency from one year to the next. Argh!

I sincerely hope your graduate secretary is doing the kind of thing I used to while working in restaurants when I told people it would be 20 mins for their table when it would really only be 10.

You are right that stressing about it won't really help anything and that we don't have any control over the whole process but I honestly I can't help it I will try to to do other things to keep my mind off of this but it's going to be so HARD.

@Generic_Applicant wowsers. I'm sorry to hear that. Jesus this a nail biter. Did you literally just get an email from your department or did you ask them?

So far I've been able to distill the following from everyone's comments and observations:
(1) We will be issued the results on a separate web platform than the one we submitted our application through;
(2) We do not yet have access to that platform, but we will be given access a few days before we receive the results;
(3) Some of us may receive access and/or results as early as April 26 or 27, but likely not. The most likely scenario is that we will receive these results on the 29th or 30th, and potentially as late as the 4th or 5th of May; and
(4) There does not appear to be any rational basis for when certain people receive access or results in relation to others.
So, with that, I'd say, distract the mind with other things and tune back into SSHRC land late next week to see what might have changed. Best of luck to all.

Pfewww. That makes sense. Of course there are multiple SSHRC awards that people are hearing about. At this stage my brain has frozen and can't make logical observations LOL. I just NEED April to be over already LMAO in tears & misery.

Yeah, that is the trap! It's so tempting to look for an easy fix on the inside because the internal work is much more painstaking and takes way longer! ? But what I've also learned from 6 years or so of grad school and grant apps is that pinning my self-worth on these apps is actually what is the most painstaking. Getting to a point of rather doing the internal work ?
Felt like sharing this here, sorry it's off the mark of getting our results. Been on the forum for a while and thought I would add this side-thought!
