Has anyone else who interviewed at NYU for counseling heard anything yet? -
I keep trying to work out the percentages in my head of the probability of being accepted if I'm waitlisted at 4/6 Only waitlisted at two now and waiting to hear from two.
-
Hi guys! I thought I would start this thread since I saw one on here from 2018. How are you coping with the waiting game?

Would the person who was waitlisted (disappointing news ) by NYU mind sending their POI? Thanks a lot. -
This is just an inappropriate comment that I would encourage you to reflect on. It is invalidating of Justice's efforts and abilities. Of course we always strive for diversity in Counseling Psychology, just as we strive for other social justice goals. And even the most qualified applicant can always do more to have a stronger application: more pubs, better scores, etc. At the end of the day, it's fit that matters.

Gotcha. I’m sorry, it must be hugely disappointing. At least you know that everyone who was selected to interview was highly qualified. Edit: did you mean you were already working in the lab of one of those PIs? I can see how that would be upsetting. I guess just remember that at the end of the day it’s not personal.

I think you really need to operationalize “good” it means different things to different people. I wouldn’t say TC is better than another top school because it’s an ivy for example, although it is a great school. I suppose what you could do is look at education department rankings, although that would be a very rough guide. What you want to look for is APA internship placement rate, funding, research activity and output, etc. at the end of the day mentor fit will be more important than any ranking imho.

Fall 2020 Clinical & Counseling PhD/PsyD

I would think two weeks is pretty standard though? I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people on the results board who had that much of a gap between interview and acceptance -
*I is stressed* venting thread for Fall 2020 Applicants
Ppkitty replied to justacigar's topic in Psychology Forum
Yes the double pressure is incredible! Fortunately of the places left to hear from we would still be in the same state or region but it’s still nerve wracking. Congratulations on the acceptances though! -
Seems like maybe you could find a forensic program and then get another advisor who does criminology to be a thesis advisor? Not an expert in this area though. Do you have any research experience?

What are you guys doing to distract yourselves during the long weekend? -
Congratulations! Amazing!

This is mostly a question for current grad lurkers (love you guys!)! Any sense of how common it is for folks to get off waitlists in Psych, counseling psych specifically? I was really surprised that it seemed like one school I was waitlisted at also waitlisted everyone else who applied to that PI (maybe 3 other people) other than the accepted individual. Is that customary?

Importance of Research and Publication: Need advice
Ppkitty replied to SheMadeItEventually's topic in Psychology Forum
I think it depends what subfield you’re applying into. Perhaps actual publications are more important in clinical. I’m a counseling applicant, and I’ve had a relatively good cycle so far this year with no posters or pubs.- 9 replies

I saw a couple rejections from SUNY Albany counseling on the results page. Did anyone get an acceptance or waitlist? -

Has anyone been invited to an in-person interview at Clark, or know if they do them? I saw on the results page that some people have had calls, and the grad admissions person I talked to on the phone said that final decisions aren't out yet. -

It was from the chair and addressed to me, but not further personalized. But not a mass email per se. Thanks! -
