Ppkitty replied to justacigar's topic in Psychology Forum
Someone posted in the results portal about a Boston College Counseling Psychology, would they mind DMing their poi? Thanks!! -
I've already done research coordinator job then 2 year masters before applying (this is my first cycle). So if this doesn't work I think I'm seriously going to try to work abroad to study Arabic for a bit.

Not applying to Texas, but just curious who your POI is at Albany? Edit: Oh and also Clark! Mine are AP and EC respectively. -
I would say a research intensive position like a clinical coordinator in a psychiatry department or research lab would be ideal then.
-
Are you applying to clinical programs or other programs with a high research focus? If so, I would recommend doing a research-intensive postbac or getting a lab management position. If your GPA is low, and/or you are considering applying to counseling psychology PhD programs, then a Masters degree might be a better choice (as long as you are confident you will continue to be able to do research there.

One of the apps I am completing right now has a supplemental application for assistantship or fellowship consideration. The last question is, "What kind of assistantship duties do you feel qualified to undertake?" So...dumb question probably, but do the duties involved in assistantships generally just involve the things you would expect, like TA'ing? Or should I say I am qualified to instruct a course or do office work? Hard to answer this question when I don't know what the potential job is, so I guess I'm just asking what graduate fellows and assistants do in general!

Did they email you that they had not received your transcripts? I haven't gotten an email saying anything is missing, but they are still saying that my transcripts are "initiated" rater than "complete". I even called my undergrad to ask if they had mailed them and they had... -

My application status is also incomplete, even though I already sent them my official transcripts for both Masters and undergrad some time ago, those are both marked "initiated" and not "complete". Also I know for a fact all of my recommenders submitted their letters, but one is "initiated" (two were yesterday, and one changed to "complete" overnight). Hope they don't hold it against me that it's taking a long time for my materials to be linked to my app :(. -

I imagine if you had several pubs that demonstrated your quantitative skill it would be ok. -

These stats, particularly quant, are below average for the ivy schools you have mentioned. FIT with program can often make up for this, but since you don’t have direct experiencein the field into which you are applying/labs you want to work in, or pubs in your original study of interest, I would say the chances at programs if such a caliber are vanishingly small I’m afraid. UMass May be a better bet since you are already affiliated. My general recommendation would be to do a postbacc or paid lab manager position in your field of interest and then apply with pubs/good fit, if you’re aiming for top 10 programs. -

I would try to get your hands on the APA Graduate Study in Psychology 2018 guidebook. They have a lot of cutoffs listed that perhaps aren't on the websites on the schools. -

Do you know what the cutoffs are for your schools? Are the scores below 150 respectively? -

Does anyone know if Fordham Counseling Psych PhD requires the subject test? From the website I was sure it didn’t, but then I was reading one of those APA program overview books yesterday from 2018 and it said it did...I am confusion -
Do you have any poster presentations or preferably publications?
