  1. Thanks! They just say that candidates will be notified of decisions "in February." Which has just started, so I guess I'll hold off on bugging them.
  2. I think I would definitely avoid giving my name--which, again, should probably answer my question. Sigh. I'll just wait it out.
  3. I knooooooooow you're right. Lol. I guess I knew it before I wrote it, but still.
  4. (Apologies in advance if this has been covered elsewhere) Can anyone give some insight into the "rules" for contacting departments about when they expect to notify applicants of their results? I guess up until now I've assumed the most appropriate option is to wait silently, but it's just eating at me--especially for those schools that have sent out a couple of responses but nothing has made it my way (lookin' at you Rice!). At what point, if any, do you decide to check in? And what do you say when you do?
  5. For those looking for a feasible workout routine on a tight schedule, I highly recommend T25. I think it's one of the Beachbody routines. 25 minute workouts, plus a short cool down. I literally have no time for anything else, so this is definitely the one for me. There's a modifier who takes you through a lower impact option, since it's heavy on the jumping.
  6. Yep. I've got family in Texas that I'd love to get home to, but that may be a goal for after I graduate, IDK. Anyway, I did want to add that it looks like it's not entirely unreasonable to expect Rice to stagger its acceptances. Last year, a round went out on Feb. 2, then someone else got word they were in on Feb. 16. Mostly just trying to make myself feel better, but I wanted to share.
  7. Same! It ain't over till it's over! At least not with these schools that don't interview, I'm not counting myself out unless I get a straight rejection.
  8. Happy Sunday! I'm sitting on two implied rejections now. Here's hoping this week looks up for us both. In the meantime, imma eat some pancakes and veg out in preparation for another week of anxiety.
  9. Yup. Two dogs and a cat, actually. Oh, and a husband and kiddo. So maybe it doesn't count ? Really though, I can't imagine not having my puppers with me during grad school. They're very supportive of my academic endeavors.
  10. Agreed. I've read most of her poetry and love it ("I eat men like air" OMG), but this is my first time with her prose.
  11. The weird macho tone is I think part of what got to me. I felt like the show did a great disservice to Catelyn Stark, but I love where they've taken most of the other female leads. I'm totally team Cersei most days (I literally cheered with her "I choose violence" scene. YASSS QUEEN.)
  12. @FreakyFoucault btw, speaking of reading materials, I started The Bell Jar. It's been sitting on my shelf for over a year now, so I figured it was time. ?
  13. Same. My husband loved them; it drives him crazy that I just stopped reading them about halfway through. I honestly think that the TV show moving away from the books was the best thing. The last two seasons have been stellar IMO.
  14. Yes, but that was for the English and Education program. U-Mich programs notify at different times, from what I gather.
  15. Assuming an implied rejection from Rice. We'll see. It wasn't the best fit out of my schools, but I was really hoping to have another Texas option to choose from. My sister lives in Houston and it would be so cool to be closer to her.
  16. Right-O! They had a deadline of Jan. 5. But it still gave me a heart attack.
  17. Ummm, there's a U-Mich acceptance up and I nearly died. But, like, congrats to whoever it is!
  18. Doh! Tagged the wrong person. Sorry bout that.
  19. @M(allthevowels)H is your portal updated for Rice?
  20. Hahahaha this is me right now
  21. The takeaway: KEEP YOUR PHONE CHARGED AT ALL TIMES.
  22. @FreakyFoucault We're all in collective suspense to know what you hear back. It would be absurd for it to be anything but good!
  23. Whew. That helps me to calm down some until then. Thanks for sharing!
  24. I am starting to resent the NYT for all of their breaking news emails today. Like, yes, the memo and Russia and all that. BUT ARE YOU GRAD SCHOOLS OR NOT. (This waiting has clearly brought out the worst in me).
