  1. Congrats! I'd wondered when Tufts was going to do something.
  2. If it's comparative lit, it might be @immanentfields. I don't know of any other acceptances (not just on Grad Cafe, but in my whole life).
  3. Thanks! One step closer to staying in the North East!
  4. Yes! I do love a happy ending :-) Congrats and good luck!
  5. Sending you good vibes!
  6. Waitlisted at CUNY. New York, why you play so hard to get?
  7. That's awesome. Especially when you consider cost of living in Arkansas! Congrats again on you and your partner landing a gig together. Academia is a crapshoot, so that really is an achievement.
  8. Congratulations on UVA and welcome!!
  9. Wow! Seems like you've got quite the adventure ahead of you either way. Have you asked about childcare at your perspective programs? I know nothing about Kentucky or Nashville, but childcare in Southern California is no joke price-wise. Some programs offer on-campus childcare services which might be something to consider (UCR comes to mind). In any event, I was basically raised by a dog and I turned out just fine *scratches behind my ear with my foot*
  10. It depends on the school. Like @JustPoesieAlong said some places interview all candidates (some don't, but some do). For my slice of implied rejection, CU Boulder is only taking 4 people this cycle, and there's an acceptance and waitlist on the board. I've heard of a second acceptance through a friend while I've gotten nothing so...math. Depressing depressing math.
  11. Congratulations on an awesome offer!!
  12. Hey! I'm (long) 19th Century American/African American/Posthumanism. It's a long story, but I swear it all works together. I have three acceptances, and six holes of infinite screaming silence that are probably rejections marinating. Just rip off the Band-Aid CUNY!
  13. Congrats!! Well, congrats to this and good luck on the next thing :-)
  14. You guys are making the right call. I spent much of my MFA trying to talk myself out of a literature PhD. Instead I just ended up taking a lot of English classes on the side and spending too much time hanging out with the EGSA, and now here I am. I also plan to continue writing in my grad program, as both additional income and palette cleanser from academic work.
  15. Out of reacts but imaginary upvote for Graham Greene. The Quiet American is still a favorite, and it's easy to assign for a discussion of symbolism/allegory because it's...you know...right there.
  16. I'm into creative writing if you count having an MFA in fiction and currently being dangerously close to missing two creative deadlines simultaneously because I've been daydreaming about new PhD cities...whoops.
  17. Congrats! But also, you are totally and completely worthy of this. There is no mistake, just an honest recognition of the value you can bring to their program. You're awesome. Deep breaths
  18. I probably should call CUNY an implied rejection, but I'm stubborn. CUNY is going to have to reject me themselves. I'm not doing it for them.
  19. Congratulations @chouette @Crow T. Robot @OceansAreBlue @Warelin @LeeLeeCzechIrish @colin_cloute @Kilos @evanmarie and anyone else I missed yesterday! Also, congrats to @hotpotato...I think. Or condolences on getting into the masters? You don't seem jazzed haha
  20. Congrats!! I swear Philly isn't as wild as recent news makes it seem* *I might be lying.
  21. Congratulations and good luck!!
  22. Shut up!! (Which I mean in a good way) Congrats that's amazing!
  23. Kind of. I've been doing "Dr. X" for first communication and then just addressing them by whatever they sign off with in their reply. Now I'm thinking that "Dr" is too formal?
