  1. I'm bracing for that as well. Vanderbilt and Rice are slated to be my first responses. I'm already practicing my best Mariah Carey if they pass me over.. "Vanderbilt? Never heard of her." "Rice? lol that's food."
  2. Yay! Congratulations! Congrats to all you Buffalo buffaloes buffaloing! (I know that's not what the verb means, but don't take this from me, it brings me joy)
  3. Okay good haha I didn't know how to respond to your first post so now I can officially say Congrats!!
  4. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about that. I got an email around the 8th (not Rhet/comp so that may account for the time difference) saying that something was wrong with my transcripts (didn't specify whether they were illegible or missing, just one of the two) and the only other person I know who applied there also got one. I mean, I guess it's possible we all just really suck at transcripts, but I sometimes wonder if they just need them emailed in to have easier access to them or something.
  5. Congratulations!! At least you have had some momentum during the wait. I haven't had the motivation to do much but compulsively check my email and look up cheap apartments in cities where I will probably never live. It takes so long and puts so much on hold! Just tell me one way or another so I can tell my landlord if I'm renewing my lease!
  6. I don't know how I missed this but congrats! Waiting for Vanderbilt is a whole mood. (Though your program might have responded by now.)
  7. Congrats you two! I'm with @mk-8 you should exchange info! Congrats and good luck!
  8. Self-shellack: losing my mind because an Indiana number popped up on my phone, before remembering I didn't even apply to Purdue.
  9. Yay! They just wanted to make you sweat a little bit first Congratulations!!
  10. Holy cow!! Congratulations!
  11. @frenchlover ah, I gotcha. But yeah, you're probably going to get that offer. Which means you get to make the empowering decision of weighing world class prestige against...ever eating again. (Everyone's financial situation is different, and going would be a no-brainer for those who could make it work financially, so absolutely no criticism to those who exercise that option. I just quite like food and would have to choose.)
  12. @frenchlover are they already notifying? I was giving myself two weeks to prepare for the rejection!
  13. Nearly 29 here. IT IS THE CHILDREN WHO ARE WRONG!
  14. Anxious. All of my schools notify on the late side. The two schools I want the most respond in late Feb and mid-March, respectively. The only chance I have of hearing anything even remotely soon is Vanderbilt, which should be notifying...oh...any second now? (The last few years people have received emails on the last Saturday of January. That clicking you hear is the button on my mouse as I compulsively refresh).
  15. Pet peeve: When an application lets you select both of your races but then a subsequent pop up asks you to "please select one race that *most* describes you." Sorry Mom and Dad, I'm going to have to decide which of you annoys me more in this moment so I feel less guilty cutting you out of my identity. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  16. Oh, Honey. If you mean Riverside, CA as in UCR you are in luck. I did my undergrad at UCR and the LGBT scene was thriving. I had trans friends who specifically came to UCR, even paying out of state tuition, because of their involvement with T*Camp and being named one of the better schools for LGBT students int he country (they also hosted the *Trans conference in 2017). I was also there when UCR Underground was hosting college-sponsored Drag events. There was an LGBT housing option (Stonewall Hall, I think), but most of my friends lived in Riverside. We were all undergrads, so I didn't notice many other LGBT with families, but they do have an LGBT Grad specific meet up, so there are lots of opportunities to find community. Riverside itself is in the I.E., where politics can change drastically depending on area. Riverside was named the second most LGBT friendly city in the I.E. (it lost to Palm Springs which...I guess is fair haha) but if you're living outside of the city I'd avoid Fontana or San Bernardino (which are probably places you'll want to avoid anyway, suck it Sanberdoo!) There are gay bars (VIP, and Menagerie) on main streets in Riverside. My friend and his partner opted for housing in Riverside, and were never hassled (I commuted from farther away than I would recommend anyone commuting). Hope this rant helps!
  17. I think it's safe to believe they look at the application as a whole. For instance, you're applying to Tennessee-Knoxville. According to the Results board, they accepted a 156v in 2015, and rejected a 162. Madison-Wisconsin accepted a 158v and rejected 163 the same cycle. I did my undergrad at UC Riverside and am still close with a number of faculty, and I can tell you they don't give a single bent penny about the GRE when it really comes down to it. I'm sure your other accomplishments + GPA will overshadow a few points, if you're a good fit for a program. Someone said the gradcafe GRE scores are skewed higher than average, which is probably true, so I'm sure it often looks like everyone who gets in is 166, but it's really just that everyone here is obsessive and reporting reflects community
  18. Congratulations!!! What a roller coaster of a day!
  19. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! @a_sort_of_fractious_angel *wink wink* (this wink is an implied congratulations for the acceptance that I am 100% sure you just got. But it's not the word "congratulations" and so, thusly, is jinx-proof.)
