    Hi all,
A couple quick updates re: York and Carleton, for 1 year students looking for more insight!
So, I got accepted off the York waitlist yesterday and was immediately able to view my offer in the myfile "decision centre". It looks like it comes with about $16,000 funding which is incredible - I believe $10,000 of that everyone gets and then there's another $6,000 scholarship for good grades (I finished my BSW with an A average, I believe). The grad assistant explained that this does NOT come with the need to TA, in fact they recommend MSW students do not so they can focus on their studies. Pretty good deal if you ask me!
I emailed Carleton as well just in case they know of any movement on the 1 year program waitlist. It doesn't look good - the response I got from Stephanie (the graduate administrator) says:
"There is no movement on the waitlist as we have are above our target.  If we move to the waitlist at all, it would most likely be in August.
I am sorry I do not have better news for you."
So, that's not ideal news... If you're waiting on Carleton I would suggest making other plans. I'm not sure how much more movement York will see but hopefully this means they're moving on the waitlist now so maybe some more of you will hear!
Anyways - just thought I'd let everyone know in case other people were confused about the funding (it was written very weirdly) or still waiting on Carleton.
    Good luck all!

A few weeks ago I was admitted to the Laurier 2 year MSW ? I am so excited.
Are there any future WLU students looking to connect? Best of luck with the course selection this morning!

I did some rough calculations on when we should hear back... the 1-years got their responses around March 2nd, and had three weeks to reply (March 23), and the waitlisted applicants seem to have heard back last week (roughly 1 month later). By that timeline, the 2-years heard back around March 29th, and had about three weeks to reply (April 24). So 1 month from then would be May 22nd. That seems in line with last year -- the waitlist moved near the end of May/beginning of June.
Still quite a bit of waiting to go!

Has anyone accepted their Laurier 2 year MSW acceptance? If so, was there any information provided about the deposit. I am wondering how much it is and when it needs to be paid by! I haven't accepted yet and don't have access to this info! Thanks

Pretty sure that Ammad said on the phone that my MyFile should have been updated in 2 days and then I had about 2 weeks to respond. This was on March 27th. As of two days ago, MyFile still hadn't been updated. No idea what's happening.
EDIT*** just checked and MyFile has updated. I have until april 20th.

Just received my response from uofc- didn’t get in. I have other life goals that will make me just as happy, if not happier, than getting into my masters, so I’m not upset about the rejection. However, I wish they would have been more transparent throughout the process...it has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, so I’m not sure if I’ll reapply in the future. Good luck to the rest of you still waiting!

Strange that it got sent outside of business hours, but I'm not complaining

I think if you accept at Laurier, pay your deposit, then later get accepted to U of T, you can cancel your acceptance at Laurier and lose your deposit? (hopefully the deposit is small)
I would call Laurier and ask what happens if you accept and then change your mind. I would be interested to know as well... I have a great (permanent) job and I feel weird quitting to go back to school and get into debt, but its my dream to get my MSW so I'll probably take the less financially sound route LOL. Got to follow your dreams right??

Is there anyone here who has been accepted to Laurier and was put on UofT's 2 year Wait list? I read on LORIS that we need to accept/decline by April 24th but I am worried about accepting and then getting admitted into UofT. I am wondering if anyone else is in this situation. UofT is my ultimate goal but I am very excited about getting into Laurier as well!

    Hey all,
I'm staying tuned into the thread here and wanted to update that I also was an "after hours" recipient of admission from Laurier yesterday evening. I have no additional insight about timelines etc, other than that I live in Hamilton and haven't received my U of T package yet - will let folks know re: the scholarship info if I have any. Congrats to all those who were accepted, and certainly congrats to everyone else as well waitlist, not accepted, whatever your status may be - it takes a significant amount of resilience to apply and just face the possibility of acceptance/not. Well done for the hard work. If anyone is faced with decisions in the coming days and would like to mull it over please send me a message! I've got a bit of soul searching to do and would love to connect.

Hey. I was accepted to Western and Laurier 2 year program. I was wondering if anyone know which program would be best for wanting a career in Mental Health. I would love to work in a hospital and in private practice with individuals and families suffering from mental health and trauma. I'm unsure which program would better prepare me for this. Thoughts? Thanks in advance and good luck everyone!

For those of you that were waitlisted for U of T. I have some information about the waitlist. I called Terry today asking about how decisions are made about the waitlist.
First, he informed me that the waitlist is not ranked because once a spot opens up, all the applications on the waitlist are reviewed again. This is because some people are still completing their degree and may update their GPA/ send in another transcript. He could not tell me how many people are on the waitlist because the admissions committee did not provide that information. Also, there is a good chance that nobody will get off the waitlist until early June. The government made a new law stating that no school can ask for a deposit before the first week of June because many people are still waiting for other acceptances from other schools.
I asked about the acceptance for the advanced standing program and he said that it is much higher than the two-year MSW. This year, they accepted 80 or 90 people out of 350 for the Advanced Standing Program. They accepted 130 out of 800 for the 2-year MSW.
He told me that year someone started completing a 1-year BSW and got off the waitlist in August. This person was given the option of accepting the 2-year MSW or applying again for Advanced Standing once they complete their BSW. He told me that this applicant had decided to accept the admission to the 2-year MSW.
I hope this is helpful for some people!

    Hi everyone,
I have been accepted to the 2-year MSW program at the University of Toronto (so far I have only been notified via ACORN). Good news - I will NOT be accepting this offer - so someone on the waitlist will get my place! I applied last year for this program, and was waitlisted (and ultimately rejected). So, I know how it feels! I got a better offer (for what I want to do). I'll be doing my Masters of Counselling/Psychotherapy at OISE/University of Toronto.
Good luck to everyone! Be hopeful and always try again if it doesn't work out this year.
